A few news items you might have missed:

• So, he has lots of clothes on – I know, I know – but this InstaHunk (above), med student Marco, makes my days with pics like this. That face, those arms… #dang

• Israel’s Parliament has voted down a proposed amendment that would have allowed same-sex couples the right to have children via a surrogate. #Boo

• According to a new poll by Pew Research, when asked “What president has done the best job in your lifetime?” more than four-in-ten (44%) say Obama is the best or second best president of their lifetimes, 33% say Bill Clinton and 32% say Ronald Reagan. The Donald was only considered “best” by 19% of respondents.

• A recent study shows condoms are 91% effective in preventing HIV transmission. Previous estimates put the efficacy of condoms at about 70%.

• If a picture is worth a thousand words…

• A new study in Italy shows children of gay and lesbian couples showed fewer psychological problems than those of heterosexuals.

• Over the weekend, a straight teen who was ejected from the iconic Stonewall Inn in New York City bashed in the front window with a baseball bat. See? Straight parents… #asshole

• Donald Trump’s personal driver of 25 years is suing the president for 3,300 hours of unpaid overtime. The law suit is asking for $178,000. According to TMZ, the last time the driver got a raise, from $68K to $75K, he had to forfeit his healthcare insurance that was worth $18K. Once again, there’s the Trumpster screwing over the average guy.

• Australian actor Guy Pearce now regrets mentioning how ‘handsy’ Kevin Spacey got with him.

• In a recent episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix, Ellen DeGeneres shares candidly about coming out 20 years ago and the severe impact it had on her career.

You’ll recall when the comedienne came out in 1997, ABC cancelled her sitcom. It was a rough ride from there.

“When I lost the sitcom, I didn’t work for three years solid until I got the show, the talk show,” DeGeneres tells Seinfeld. “I was bitter and sad and angry. How did this change everything, just by me being honest and saying I’m gay? Why is this such a shock to people? Why is it such a big deal?”

• The New York Yankees are the only Major League Baseball team to not hold a Pride night this year.

• A barista at Starbucks has been fired for mocking a man who stutters. After stuttering on his name during his order, the barista replied, ‘Okay, S-s-s-sam.’ When he received his coffee, his name on the cup was written as ‘SSSAM.’

• Twitter is deleting over a million fake accounts a day – double the rate from last October.

• Scarlett Johansson cast herself in the role of a transgender man in the upcoming film, Rub & Tug, and folks are not happy about it.

• I’ve been meaning to post this really heartwarming viral video of four fathers attending Pride for the first time with their LGBTQ children.

Produced as an ad spot for Dublin Bus, its really beautiful seeing the kids faces upon hearing their dads were heading to Pride with them on a rainbow-colored bus. Watch the short spot below.

• Chippendales’ Okewa (above) celebrates his 30th trip around the sun today. I’d say ‘woof’ but we can settle for a ‘meow’ given the pic 🙂

• A 19-year-old man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly beat up and trapped a 50-year-old gay man in a basement apartment.

• The vice mayor of a small California town is facing recall after penning an op-ed sarcastically calling for a ‘Straight Pride’ month.

• In an interview with Andrew Denton on the Australian talk show Interview, actor Guy Pearce was asked his thoughts on working with Kevin Spacey. The actor replied: “Yeah … yeah. Tough one to talk about at the moment. Amazing actor; incredible actor. Mmm. Slightly difficult time with Kevin. He’s a handsy guy.”

• After appearing in the 2003 film School of Rock with Jack Black, then-child actor Brian Falduto was severely bullied for playing a character perceived to be gay.

• The rising cost of PrEP is keeping it out of reach for many.

• Mexico’s newly-elected president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, name checked LGBTs in his victory speech.

• Did you know that song you line danced to in elementary school gym class, at weddings, graduations and Bar Mitzvahs is about a vibrator?

• Oreos goes for the good stuff for Pride Month:

• Sweden is set to have the first LGBT-certified sports stadium where all staff at the 7,200-capacity multi-use arena will be trained in LGBT issues in order to create a welcoming environment. Additionally, all toilets and dressing rooms will be adapted so that there are accessible options for all athletes and spectators, regardless of their gender identity, including gender neutral toilets where possible.

• The Flash star Keiynan Lonsdale got trolled on Twitter recently for wearing a dress to the MTV Awards earlier this month where he snagged the award for “Best Kiss” for his liplock with Nick Robinson in Love, Simon.

But Lonsdale handled the homophobe with style, and shared one of the benefits of his sartorial choices: “Allows the balls to breathe and therefore will chill ya out.”

• What to watch this weekend? The critics are raving about the new Hugh Grant BBC mini-series, A Very English Scandal. Starting today the 3-part series is available on Amazon, and according to the reviews, it’s fantastic.

• A jury sentenced a gay man to death rather than life in prison because he’s gay and “we’d be sending him where he wants to go.” #Homophobes

• CBS News reporter David Begnaud, who has received widespread praise for his extensive coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, quietly came out publicly on Sunday tweeting a picture at a dinner with his partner, Jeremy: “Reporting the truth includes my own.”

• A new bill in Ohio would require teachers, doctors and government officials to notify parents if a child ever acts “in a manner opposite of the child’s biological sex.”

• NBC News reports that Defense Secretary James “Mad Dog” Mattis is on the outs with Donald Trump because the Donald thinks Mattis “looks down on him.”

• Cher snuck into Chicago this past weekend to check out preview performances of the upcoming Broadway musical based on her life, The Cher Show.

What did she think? Always a straight-shooter, the Oscar winner said, “Some parts of it are really fabulous. We’re going to work on the other parts. In many parts, it was much, much better than I thought it would be. And there were no parts where I wanted to gouge my eyes out.”

• In the aftermath of yesterday’s ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court in favor of Colorado’s anti-gay Masterpiece Bake Shop, South Dakota state Rep. Michael Clark (R) says businesses should be able to turn away black folks if they want to.

• A new poll from Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that 72% of Americans believe that business owners should not be allowed to cite their religious beliefs as a justification for refusing LGBTQ customers.

• A man who used Grindr to drug and rape victims has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

• During his most recent MSNBC program, conservative host Hugh Hewitt defended the anti-LGBTQ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom in its fight with Amazon. Hewitt failed to mention, however, that ADF is a major sponsor of his radio programs. #ConflictOfInterest

• Comic Michael Henry goes after that silly “thing” where straight guys can’t seem to say if another guy is good-looking because we might think they’re gay.

• A 22-year-old Christian preacher who says he wants gay people killed, but as ‘humanely’ as possible. Matt Powell believes homosexuality is ‘disgusting’ and the government should ‘execute’ them. Well, I’m not a big fan of you, Mr. Powell.

• Netflix got all sassy throwing shade at Roseanne Barr in the aftermath of her recently cancelled sitcom.

The streaming service tweeted a reminder to Roseanne viewers that its One Day at a Time sitcom remount “is a sitcom about a tight-knit, working class family that tackles extremely topical social issues, in a smart and innovative way. Ya know, if you’re suddenly looking for a show like that….” #Meow #Shade #ComeSitNearMe

• Russia has announced displays of Pride will be allowed during the World Cup in spite of “gay propaganda laws.”

• MNEK’s new single, “Colour,” is an upbeat anthem perfect to kick off Pride Month. Featuring Hailee Steinfeld, the lyric video is full of color, rainbows and celebrates finding the love that makes your life better.
