Campaign Ad: “Example”

In what could very well be Hillary Clinton’s closing argument in her run for the White House, the Clinton campaign released this new spot,  narrated by Morgan Freeman and titled “Example,” highlighting the candidates’ differences in tone, temperament and readiness to lead the United States.

The question posed is, which candidate is “knowledgeable and steady,” and which is “unprepared and reckless?”

Chris Cuomo To Rudy Giuliani: “You’re In Trumpland”

Rudy Giuliani is like a pig in shit as he conflates and obfuscates any and all possible conspiracy theories concerning Hillary Clinton in this interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo.

He’s clearly living for all the attention he’s getting as a Trump surrogate.

From Mediaite:

“I mean Rudy! I have looked up to you my entire life because you’re so accurate,” said Cuomo as the exchange got heated. “And all of a sudden you’re in Trumpland, and the facts are all over the place.” As Giuliani dug deeper into the rabbit hole to make his case, Cuomo asserted, “You’re not even close to connecting anything yet. You’re not close.”

Giuliani pivoted at one point to slam Cuomo and, presumably, CNN for their treatment of the GOP nominee, saying “You guys are so darn unfair to Trump!” Cuomo appeared incredulous with just how loose and fast Giuliani has become when it comes to the facts of a case.

Campaign Ad: “My Name Is Mae Wiggins”

From Mediaite:

Meet Mae Wiggins. She is a woman of color who was told by the Trump Corporation that there were no apartments available for her to rent. When she took her suspicions that they were lying to her over to the New York Human Rights Commission, they sent a white couple, per the standard practice of the time, to the property only to learn that there were, in fact, vacancies and the white couple was more than welcome to rent one of the units.

Among the many shocking claims in Hillary Clinton‘s latest ad, which features Wiggins, viewers learn that after Donald Trump took over the business from his father, Trump personnel were instructed to write a “C” for “colored” on the housing application of any non-white prospective tenant. That came from Elyse Goldweber, an attorney on the Justice Department’s eventual case against Trump. A New York Times piece from August revealed that Trump’s father, Fred Trump, simply dealt with applications from people of color by instructing his staff to put them in a drawer and leave them there.

Colin Powell Will Vote For Hillary Clinton, Calls Trump “National Disgrace”

Former Secretaries of State Colin Powell & Hillary Clinton

The Daily Beast shares that former Secretary of State Colin Powell has announced he will be voting for Democrat (and former Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton in this year’s presidential race.

The former George W. Bush cabinet member spoke at a luncheon on Long Island and, according to Newsday reporter Robert Brodsky, told attendees that Republican nominee Donald Trump “insults us every day” and is “selling people a bill of goods,” and so he will cast his vote for fellow ex-secretary Clinton. Powell has previously resisted declaring his support for either candidate, but has chided Trump as a “national disgrace.”

Reporter Robert Brodsky of New York Newsday first broke the news:

Sean Hayes: I’m “Ashamed And Embarrassed” I Stayed In The Closet So Long

Will & Grace star Sean Hayes told the crowd at the Legacy Awards this past Sunday night, presented by Los Angeles LGBT film festival Outfest, that he has regrets about not coming out sooner.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

“[The press release] said that I took the stereotypical gay sissy and made him human, lovable, flawed and real. While this may be true, I think you should’ve led with flawed because at the time, I was a young closeted actor having his first taste of a little success and unfortunately, in my mind, my lucky break was inextricably tied to me thinking that I had to stay in the closet in order to keep moving forward,” Hayes said, receiving his award from longtime friend Dax Shepard, who was equal parts genuine and hilarious. “Looking back at my choice to stay silent, I am ashamed and embarrassed. What was I thinking? As If any of you had any doubts. I mean, right, could a straight actor ever do this…?”

“When it comes to nights like tonight and honors like this, I’m consumed with what I didn’t do. I know I should’ve come out sooner and I’m sorry for that. Especially when I think about the possibility that I might have made a difference in someone’s life. I would probably be able to sleep a lot better than I do if I had acted sooner, but such is life. We learn our lessons only when we are ready.”

NBC News/SurveyMonkey Poll: Hillary Leads Donald +5

The latest NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll shows Democrat Hillary Clinton out in front of Republican Donald Trump by 5 points.

NBC News reports:

In a four-way match-up, Clinton enjoys 46 percent support this week among likely voters, while Trump holds onto 41 percent support. Gary Johnson maintains 7 percent support and Jill Stein has 3 percent support. In a two way race, Clinton enjoys a 6 point lead over Trump with 50 percent support compared to Trump’s 44 percent.

Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight site still shows Hillary with an 86% chance of winning the White House:

Here’s where the Huffpost Tracker has the race – Hillary at 49% versus Donald at 41.4%:

And the New York Times Upshot Tracking poll:

Nevada: Democrats Continue Big Lead In Early Voting Turnout

After three days of early voting in Nevada, the Dems continue to outpace Republicans at the polls.

The Nevada Secretary of State’s website shows 69,246 Democrats have voted in person so far (48.93%) versus 45,990 Republicans (32.5%).

The mail-in ballots total 29,309 so far with Republicans casting 12,445 versus the Dems’ 11,100.

Of course, the lion’s share of votes come from Clark County where almost 75% of Nevadans live, and  a big majority are Democrats.

It’s notable that this marked the third straight day of 30,000+ voters in Clark County. Yesterday’s total in Clark County was 34,603. For comparison, in 2012 the third day total was 30,598.

All told that’s 80,346 ballots from the Dems and 58,435 for the Republicans. A difference of almost 22,000.

As noted earlier, we don’t know how those folks voted, but history shows the vast majority of voters cast their ballot for their registered party.

Donald Trump and his followers can point to turn-out for his rallies, but the true “enthusiasm” shows up at the ballot box.  Just saying…
