Some news items you may have missed:

• After Russian President Vladimir Putin shared a shirtless pic during his recent vacay in Siberia, a Russian social media entrepreneur challenged men to take the #PutinShirtlessChallenge (above).

• The president of Chile is set to formally introduce legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry. Chile would become the 25th country on the planet to make marriage equality the law of the land.

• After this year’s Kennedy Center Honor recipients were announced this week, dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade and television writer and producer Norman Lear told the press they would not be attending the annual White House reception before the event. In response, Donald Trump and Melania Trump issued a statement saying they would skip the Honors event this year.

• Producers of the upcoming Will & Grace reboot have snagged a big guest star: Former First Lady Michelle Obama.

• There’s currently a GoFundMe campaign that aims to raise $1 billion to buy a controlling interest in Twitter, and then delete Donald Trump’s account.

• The USA Men’s Wrestling team (below) closed the books on “Champ Camp” and are heading to the World Championships.

Some news items you may have missed:

• Germany’s Olympic javelin team (above) offers us a good reason to talk about the country without having to mention “nazis.” Check out this one minute video from the hunky gentlemen from Germany.

• Two lawsuits in Northern Ireland challenging the current ban on marriage equality have been dismissed. The judge in both cases ruled the ban does not violate LGBT couples’ rights.

• Apple is donating $2 million to anti-hate groups, the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

• On the same day, both the American Cancer Society and the Cleveland Clinic have canceled their planned gala events at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago venue. A local Chamber of Commerce official told the press, “The glitter, the shine has gone from the club and I can’t help but think there will be more fallout from it.”

• Openly gay former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken laments his past defense of Donald Trump:

• The Wrap is reporting Glenn Close is in advanced talks to star in a film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Sunset Boulevard. Close won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in 1994 and recently ended an enormously successful revival run on Broadway.

• Australian song bird Dannii Minogue dropped her new dance tune last week, “Holding On,” and the title/lyrics couldn’t be more appropriate for the times. Listen below:

• U.S. Olympic gymnast Sam Mikulak thinks the men’s team could up interest in his sport if the guys competed shirtless. I think he may be onto something there 🙂

• Hideous Trump support and now former-CNN pundit got booted from the news network for tweeting “Sieg Heil!”

• “Maybe it wasn’t tough enough,” Donald Trump says of his “fire and fury” remarks on North Korea:

• Tony Award winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen) has scored a guest star spot on upcoming Will & Grace reboot.

• A new report shows it could cost around $960 million to kick transgender people out of the the U.S. military.

• Chelsea Manning, photographed by Annie Leibovitz, for Vogue’s September issue – “Guess this is what freedom looks like…”

• The Advocate shares 7 sports organizations that stand up for transgender Americans.

• Donald Trump’s “fire and fury” remarks aimed at North Korea were apparently made in the moment; no advisers were consulted on the language.

• A design firm thinks the swastika can be “rebranded” for the LGBTQ community. They’re wrong. #HideousIdea

• In the aftermath of President Trump’s threats of “fire and fury,” North Korea is now reportedly considering a missile strike on Guam.

• FBI agents conducted an early morning raid of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort’s home in July. The search warrant indicates the FBI wasn’t confident Manafort would provide all documents requested by the Special Counsel’s investigation.

• Adorable pic of gay dads after a day at Disney World with kids goes viral 🙂

Some news items you may have missed:

• Celebrating #FurryFriday at The Randy Report #grrr

• The U.S. economy added 209K jobs in July, bringing the unemployment rate to 4.3%.

• The CEO of former escort site RentBoy.com sentenced to six months in prison for promoting prostitution and conspiracy to commit money laundering. It’s notable that the escorts on the site signed up voluntarily. There seems to be hypocrisy at play here in that there are dozens of straight escort sites in operation in NYC that have gone unpunished.

• Donald Trump is taking credit for the stock market’s record highs, but just last fall he said stock values were “sitting on an economic bubble; a financial bubble.” Funny how real it all gets when he’s president.

• The Massachusetts woman convicted in June of involuntary manslaughter for encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself was sentenced to 2 and 1/2 years in prison. In a stream of several texts, then-17-year-old Carter encouraged 18-year-old boyfriend Conrad Roy III to follow through on thoughts of killing himself. #evil

• Kacy Hill, signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music label, was named “MTV PUSH: Artist To Watch,” and I’m inclined to believe. Check out Kacy’s pop-y, EDM-driven “Hard To Love” below. More info on the rapturous red-head at her official site here.

• I’m half-way through my week, Instahunk Steve Raider (above) is half-way through his day at the beach. Switch places?

• Donald Trump has (finally) signed legislation that imposes further sanctions on Russia for meddling in the 2016 election. The measure also limits his own authority to lift those sanctions. I’m surprised he would do that to the Motherland.

• Former White House photographer Pete Souza responds to reports that Donald Trump told golf club members that the White House is “a real dump:”

• The Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah on Los Angeles booking the 2028 Olympics: “Because this is Hollywood, there will be big changes … For example, the entire Chinese Olympic team will be played by white actors.”

• Facing 24 counts of prosecutorial misconduct, former Congressman Aaron Schock is shocked federal investigators have dug into personal aspects of his life, including whether rumors that he is gay are true or not. Maybe it was the Downton Abbey-styled office that gave it away? Or perhaps the turquoise belt paired with a plum checkered shirt?

• Announcing “It’s time for The Wall,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan gets all butch riding a horse in dad jeans with hip EDM music in the background of this 30-second clip of his trip to the Mexican border. Wearing a headset and Ray Bans, Ryan goes full #MAGA for “The Wall.” Watch below.

• The Minnesota Department of Education advisory council voted to approve the “Safe and Supportive Schools for Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Students” toolkit. The toolkit is a guide for making schools welcoming for all students with specific guidelines for supporting transgender and gender nonconforming students.

• How long has Obamacare been in effect? Trump thinks it’s 17 years…

• Anti-LGBT bakers and florists have said designing cakes and flowers for a same-sex wedding goes against their religious beliefs because it encompasses their First Amendment “expression.” But this wedding dress shop refused to sell a dress for a lesbian wedding. They didn’t design or make the dress, so…?

• CW Seed has released a trailer for the upcoming animated super-hero series Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which marks the first time a DC/CW series will feature an openly LGBTQ lead character.

• Richard Grenell, homocon and former spokesman for the United States at the UN, is Donald Trump’s pick as Ambassador to Germany. Grenell is Trump’s first openly LGBT ambassador nominee.
