Donald Trump Hits New High In National Poll

Donald Trump

GOP front-runner Donald Trump just hit a new high in a national poll of Republican/Republican-leaning voters.

From CNN:

Trump is at 41% in a Monmouth University poll out Monday, holding a wide advantage over his GOP challengers. His support was up from 28% in October.

In second was the rising Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, at 14%; followed by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, at 10%.

Ben Carson was at 9%, down 9 points from October, and all other candidates were in the low single digits.

New Poll: Donald Trump Leads Competitors By 20 Points

A new CNN/ORC poll shows White House hopeful Donald Trump way ahead of his fellow GOP competitors.

The Donald looks to have his biggest lead yet in the race for Republican nominee for 2016:

Donald Trump: 36%
Sen. Ted Cruz: 16%
Ben Carson: 14%
Sen. Marco Rubio: 12%

It’s interesting to note a friend from Texas, who is a Republican, wondered my direction why folks are paying so much attention to Trump. My friend said, “He’s a clown.  He’ll never be the nominee.”

Well…?

Wait for Trump to go after Ted Cruz in 3, 2, 1…

Rachel Maddow Asks Ted Cruz Campaign About “Kill The Gays” Rally Appearance

Rachel Maddow reports on Ted Cruz, Republican presidential candidate, avoiding directly addressing his association with religious extremists who cited the Bible as justifying executing homosexuals and abortion doctors.

According to Maddow, Cruz’s campaign asked for evidence that the anti-gay rant occurred: “Send me a video or audio where he explicitly says this and I will look at it.”

Video of the vile speech wasn’t enough for Cruz’s people, though. The campaign responded with two words: “Not explicit.”

I think the speech is clear as can be. It goes without saying that it would appear that even “implicit” calls for executing gays would be coolio with Cruz.

Sen. Ted Cruz Wants To Remind You He Hits Back

Attempting to capitalize on his brief moment of attention after criticizing the media at this week’s GOP debate, the campaign wizards for Sen. Ted Cruz rushed out this spot reminding you he hits back at the “liberal biased media.”

It’s worth remembering that when Cruz made his grandstanding comment at the debate, he was whining about a lack of “substantive” questions from the moderators.

Ironically, he chose to be dramatic rather than answer the “substantive” question that had just been posed to him asking why he was opposing a bipartisan budget deal that would avert a debt ceiling crisis, a Medicare crisis, and a Social Security Disability Insurance crisis.

Please note the very dramatic music in the background.

George W. Bush: Ted Cruz Is “Opportunistic” For “Sucking Up” To Donald Trump

Eyebrows were raised last night when former President George W. Bush unexpectedly ripped into several of his brother’s opponents in the GOP primary season at a Denver fundraising event, with Sen. Ted Cruz particularly in his crosshairs.

Via Raw Story:

Bush’s dismissive tone toward the Tea Party lawmaker — who worked on his campaign as a domestic policy advisor in 1999 — came as a surprise for many of the 100 donors at the event. At one point, Bush reportedly said of Cruz, “I just don’t like the guy.”

While the former Texas governor expressed confidence in his brother’s ability to win the party’s nomination, attendees said, he was generally pleasant during his 35-minute speech, with the exception of his remarks on Cruz, who he reportedly accused of “hijacking” the GOP in both Texas and Washington.

“He said he found it ‘opportunistic’ that Cruz was sucking up to [Donald] Trump and just expecting all of his support to come to him in the end,” one attendee said, an allusion to Cruz’s somewhat warmer relationship with the current Republican front-runner.

Bush also reportedly criticized another candidate, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), although not as harshly

“He’s a young, first-term senator; I’m not sure if that qualifies you to be president,” Bush said of Rubio, according to two attendees, before quipping that should Cruz win the Republican presidential nomination, “I’ll be back here next year telling you that doesn’t matter.”

Sen. Ted Cruz: Donald Trump Isn’t Going To Be GOP Nominee

Sen. Ted Cruz, who recently started showing a little bit of life in the polls following the Republican candidates for the 2016 presidential nomination, recently told WABC’s Rita Cosby that Donald Trump won’t be his party’s nominee for prez.

“I think that’s right. I think in time I don’t believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lion’s share of his supporters end up with us,” the freshman senator predicted. “And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there’s a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?

[snip]

“And I’ll note, you know I think the most beneficial thing Donald Trump’s involvement in the race has been, I think his involvement has been tremendously helpful to my campaign, because it’s framed the central question of this primary. As who will stand up to Washington? And if that’s the central question, the natural next question, that any voter will ask is okay, well who actually has stood up to Washington? Who has a record in that regard?” he asked.

I think it’s sweet that Cruz appreciates Trump’s “involvement” in the campaign.

Recent history has shown that making such statements places you in The Donald’s crosshairs.

Will Trump slap back at Cruz now?

Sen. Ted Cruz To Colbert: I Wouldn’t Compromise Like Reagan Because No One Is Asking Me To

Sen. Ted Cruz dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss the idea of compromise in politics (a la Reagan) and of course, same-sex marriage.

Cruz got a somewhat chilly response from the audience, which I’m sure Cruz expected to some degree given Colbert’s audience. But when it came to talking on marriage equality, he actually garnered some boos.

From NBC News:

When a few audience members began to boo the White House hopeful, Colbert asked for their respect and gave Cruz the last word.

“The 10th Amendment states that if the Constitution doesn’t mention it, it’s a question for the states,” said Cruz, a Harvard law graduate who once clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

“I don’t think we should entrust governing our society to five unelected lawyers in Washington.”

On his last line, Cruz received some applause, which largely eluded him throughout the interview. “If you want to win an issue, go to the ballot box and win at the ballot box,” he said. “That’s the way the Constitution was designed.”

You’ll note that Cruz makes a point of lessening the level of respect that should be afforded the Supreme Court Justices by always referring to them as “unelected lawyers,” not “judges” or “justices.”

Let’s Play “Born In The USA”

A recent Public Policy Poll shows that 40% of Republicans believe GOP White House hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz was born in the United States, and only 29% believe that Obama was.

For the record:

President Obama was born in Hawaii.

Sen. Ted Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta. That would be Canada.

This tells us a LOT about the low-information Tea Party conservatives.
