Donald Trump Started Playing “Born In The USA” At Rallies To Taunt Ted Cruz

Via Talking Points Memo:

Now that he has raised questions about Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) Canadian birth and American citizenship, Donald Trump has started playing Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” before campaign rallies, according to reports in The Weekly Standard and the Texas Tribune.

The introduction of the song may be an attempt by the real estate mogul to troll Cruz as many openly wonder whether he is eligible to run for president.

Cruz was born in Canada, but his mother was an American citizen, earning Cruz citizenship in the United States at birth. The Texas senator has repeatedly said that he is eligible to run for president.

Gallup Poll Shows Jeb Bush Net Favorable Rating Dropped 28 Points In Six Month

According to the latest Gallup U.S. Daily poll, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has seen his net favorable rating among Republicans drop a precipitous 28 points to a sad -1. He currently has a 44% Favorable rating versus his 45% Unfavorable rating.

That means Bush has the worst Net Favorable rating in terms of major political players in the GOP race.

Donald Trump comes in with 35% Unfavorable rating, second only to Bush. Think on that one for the current front runner – 35% of what should be his base have a negative view of him.

Interestingly, Sen. Ted Cruz has the lowest Unfavorable rating with only 16% of Republicans viewing him in negative terms.

White House Spokesman Enjoys “Irony” Of Donald Trump/Ted Cruz “Birther” Kerfuffle

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked about the current Donald Trump/Ted Cruz kerfuffle about Cruz’s “eligibility” to be elected president given he was born in Canada.

For the record – yes, Sen. Cruz is a natural-born American since his mother was an American.

Earnest gets a bit of a smile here as he comments on the possible irony of the situation given the years of ridiculous questions about President Obama’s birth certificate.

Says Earnest, “It would be quite ironic if after 7 or 8 years of drama around the president’s birth certificate if Republican primary voters were to choose Senator Cruz as their nominee. Somebody who actually wasn’t born in the United States and only 15 months ago renounced his Canadian citizenship.”

On another note – Mr. Earnest is quite the good looking guy, no?  🙂

Ann Coulter Goes ‘Birther’ On Ted Cruz

It looks like right-wing loon Ann Coulter went “full birther” today when she took to Twitter to question whether Sen. Ted Cruz is eligible to run for president due to his being born in Canada.

This is a big u-turn for Coulter who as recently as 2013 said that Cruz was, in fact, a “natural born” citizen of the United States, and thus eligible.

In 2009, she called the ‘birther’ movement an “embarrassment” to the Republican party.

Ted Cruz Goes Passive-Aggressive Against Marco Rubio In New Campaign Ad

Sen. Ted Cruz has a new campaign ad up that takes a passive swipe at fellow GOP White House hopeful Sen. Marco Rubio over immigration.

“I understand that when the mainstream media covers immigration, it doesn’t often see it as an economic issue. But I can tell you it is a very personal, economic issue.

And I will say the politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were crossing the Rio Grande. Or if a bunch of people with journalism degrees were coming over and driving down the wages in the press. Then we would see stories about the economic calamity that is befalling our nation.

“If I’m elected president, we will triple the border patrol; we will build a wall that works; we will secure the border.”

Points for the dark, ominous cloud coming over “the border.”

It’s notable that Cruz continues to take a “hands off” approach to Donald Trump, hoping that Trump stumbles and Cruz can snatch up his supporters by claiming he never attacked their guy.

Rick Santorum Goes After Ted Cruz In New Campaign Ad

File this under “Infighting is fun” as former Sen. Rick Santorum goes after current front-runner in Iowa, Sen. Ted Cruz, for the Republican nomination in a new ad airing in the Hawkeye state.

From Politico:

“Ted Cruz is wonderful at reading children’s fairy tales on the Senate floor,” the spot titled, appropriately, “Fairy Tales” begins, showing Cruz reading Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” during a filibuster on the Senate floor in 2013.

It then contrasts Cruz’s conduct in the Senate with that of Santorum, who served from 1995 to 2007.

“Rick Santorum spent his time in the Senate a little differently,” the narrator says. “Eight years on the Senate Armed Services Committee, helping to modernize today’s Army to better be prepared for today’s threats. Santorum also wrote and passed tough laws putting harsh sanctions on Iran.”

Cruz went ballistic when a political cartoonist included his children in a recent cartoon after Cruz utilized his kids in an ad that aired during an episode of SNL.

I wonder how Cruz will take to the use of his kids here?

Donald Trump Reminds Iowa Ted Cruz Is Cuban

With Sen. Ted Cruz leading in polls before the upcoming Republican Iowa caucuses, Donald Trump took time to remind folks that Cruz is Cuban.

“In all fairness, to the best of my knowledge, not too many evangelicals come out of Cuba, OK? Just remember that, OK? Just remember. In all fairness, remember that folks. When you’re casting your ballot, remember.”

New Campaign Ad From Ted Cruz – “Victories”

New campaign ad from GOP White House hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz utilizes no spoken dialogue, just images and references to court victories (2nd Amendment, Ten Commandments, Mojave Memorial Cross, “Under God” in Pledge of Allegiance) he enjoyed as a private attorney and as Solicitor General of Texas.

The ad will apparently run in Iowa, where Cruz is currently leading the packed Republican field of candidates, through January 3rd.

I’m no fan of Cruz, but I give props to the folks who came up with the ad. Effective in it’s simplicity.
