• Southwest Airlines denied these gay dads and their three kids ‘Family Boarding’ privileges.

• President Trump’s upcoming budget proposal will include a request to cut 25% of the budget for food stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

• Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn apparently lied during his security clearance interview regarding payments he received for traveling to Russia.

• As President Trump leaves on his first foreign trip abroad, the world prepares to make the homebody happy.

• Check out the first look at the upcoming reboot of 80s TV drama, Dynasty. You know the drill: cat fights, fashion and high drama all wrapped up in some sexy eye-candy. Airing Wednesdays this fall on the CW.

• It may be Thursday, but no one’s throwing him back – photographer Frank Marando shoots Instastud Nick Sandell for Adon Magazine (above).

• Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn stopped a military plan Turkey opposed before he was fired. But – Flynn didn’t disclose until after he was fired that he received $500,000 from Turkey to represent their interests. #ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmm

• Wing-nut commentator Alex Jones says National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster’s bald head means he’s a “leather daddy” who looks like “he could suck a golf ball through a garden hose.” Homophobic much?

• The United States has denied visas to gay Chechen men who are trying to flee the country in light of the torture and murders of gays in the Russian country.

• Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a surprising statement underlining the Justice Department’s commitment to prosecuting bias-related crimes against transgender individuals. Sessions has had a worrisome history when it comes to LGBT rights and protections.

• Jimmy Kimmel Live takes a cue from School House Rock to musically explain how truth, or the lack of it, works in today’s White House:

• Hillary Clinton has launched a new political group, Onward Together, dedicated to supporting groups that encourage people to organize and run for office.

• Joining Will & Grace on the reboot trail, 80s/90s hit sitcom Roseanne is coming back in 2018 complete with the original stars.

• President Trump broke with bipartisan tradition by introducing politics into his speech as he addressed the 36th Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on Monday by attacking political opponents. The Trumpster even threw a campaign hat to the son of a fallen police officer during the speech.

• A Florida man is accused of second-degree murder in the choking death of his girl friend. He claims his gf accidentally died performing oral sex due to his huge endowment. His lawyer now wants the jury to see the man’s penis to prove their case. #Seriously

• Longtime Trump pal Roger Stone says the president’s cabinet is plotting to accuse the Donald of having Alzheimers in order to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove his from office. I have seen several opinions expressing the idea that Trump might be coping with some kind of mental issue, so…

• Why is it I can imagine those One Million Moms’ heads exploding over this new ad spot from Liquid-Plumr?

• The Trump campaign has deleted all references to the now-infamous press release stating Donald Trump’s call for the “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the United States.

• The Texas Senate will soon debate whether the state’s high school athletics organization should be able to disqualify a transgender athlete who is undergoing hormone replacement therapy.

• NPR has a First Listen to the yummy new Broadway cast recording of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler.

• A Chechen fugitive reports that a gay 17 year-old was thrown off a 9th story balcony by his uncle in order to “wash the shame” from his family.

• Tom Holland, the newest actor to spin a web as “Spiderman,” pulls off a no-holds barred performance on Lip Sync Battle with full-on drag and dance to Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Watch below.

Some news items you may have missed:

• If I can’t start my day looking LIKE Alex Abramov, at least I can start my day looking AT Alex Abramov.

• Pulse Nightclub, the site of the largest mass murder of LGBTQ people in the history of the United States, will become a permanent national memorial.

• Two 16 year old high school students pretended to be a 35 year old man on a dating app to get a North Carolina teacher to send a naked pic to them, and then they sent the pic to classmates.

• After Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi said that those who dress outside of traditional gender norms are asking for violence, citizens of the Equality State began protesting his comments by wearing tutus and tweeting the hashtag #LiveandLetTutu.

• The Tony Award nominations are out, and lots of folks are thrilled to be on the list. There were, however, some rather egregious oversights. Check out who got overlooked here.

• Team Trump is furious that CNN refused to air his new campaign ad, which included a graphic calling CNN “fake news.” Check out CNN’s response below:

• Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill into law today that allows faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples.

• The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals says a gay couple denied a marriage license in 2015 by noted homophobe Kim Davis can sue her for legal fees 🙂

• Police in Chechnya are reportedly telling parents to kill their gay children, or else they’ll murder them themselves.

• Netflix’s next Marvel series brings together Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as “The Defenders.” The series drops August 18th, but you can watch the snazzy new trailer below.

• Very interesting dialogue between two long-term HIV survivors who have polar opposite views on longterm survivorship, Mark King and Sean McKenna. I really recommend reading it.

• Researchers from the University of Toronto Mississauga say they may have a clue as to what might make a gay man a bottom. According the scientists, tell-tale signs include having an older brother and being left-handed. Additionally, the preference could be linked to the amount of prenatal testosterone they received in utero. Interesting stuff! Read more here.

• Virulently anti-LGBT Brian Brown, of the ironically named National Organization for Marriage, says he’s found kindred spirits in Russia as he travels the world campaigning against marriage equality.

• Neo-nazi adviser to President Trump, Sebastian Gorka, will be leaving the White House in the aftermath of his “PhD” being exposed as fake. The professor who discovered Gorka’s fake doctorate has said the degree “is as real as one issued by Trump University.”

• Kelly Ripa announced today that her new talk show co-host will be…. Ryan Seacrest!

• Check out this terrific Star-Spangled Banner moment – Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs between the Ducks and Oilers in Edmonton, and the performer’s mic has a technical prob. So, he gets the whole place, Canadians and all, to sing our National Anthem. #Awesome

• Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) is dead at the age of 73.

• Alabama’s disgraced Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court, the homophobic Roy Moore, announces he will run for the U.S. Senate.

• The victim of United Airlines “dragged off the plane” episode – Dr. David Dao – has reportedly settled a potential lawsuit for a seven figure amount.

• White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer appears to blame the Obama administration for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s failure to admit accepting a $45K payment from Russia: We only approved him because Obama’s administration did!

News Round-Up: April 20, 2017

Some news items you may have missed:

• Jerry Herman’s classic Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! returns to the Great White Way tonight at the Shubert Theatre in a brand new revival starring a reportedly delicious Bette Midler. I made my Broadway debut in the last revival back in 1995 (I’m on the far left above) when Carol Channing made a spectacular return to the role of “Dolly Levi.” Wishing this new cast all the best for a fantastic run!

• TIME Magazine names Gavin Grimm, Sarah Paulson and RuPaul to this year’s “100 Most Influential People” list.

• Adam Medrano, the council member who chairs City Hall’s LGBT Task Force, has made LGBT youth homelessness a top priority. His leadership has led to the creation of Outlast Youth, a collaborative effort intent on finding beds, counseling, health care and job training for homeless LGBT youth.

• On the other end of the spectrum in Texas news, Governor Abbott says he wants to sign a transgender “bathroom bill.”

• Turning this year’s Pride Parade in Los Angeles into an anti-Trump march is making it tough to attract the event’s usual sponsors.

• CNN spoke to to two men who describe being detained, beaten and tortured in Chechnya as part of the country’s violent crackdown on homosexuality. Watch below:
