Mother convicted of murder for killing 4 year old she believed was gay

Jessica Dutro (L) and four year-old Zachary

Jessica Dutro, 25, was convicted of seven counts including murder, murder by abuse and second-degree abuse in Oregon yesterday.  The jury took less than an hour to come to unanimous decisions for each count.

Dutro’s young daughter testified that she saw Dutro and her boyfriend Brian Canady beat Zachary Dutro-Boggess to death one day before his 4th birthday.

“They beat up my brother, then he died,” the girl told her counselor. “I seen them.”

From Oregonlive.com:

To a Tigard detective, she said, “Jessica and Brian, they kept hitting him and punching him. He didn’t listen to them so they kicked him and punched him and stuff and they kept doing it and doing it. … They knew he were sick and stuff. And they didn’t tell anybody.”

Washington County jurors took a little more than an hour to reach a unanimous verdict. They found her guilty on all seven counts, including murder, murder by abuse and second-degree assault.

Dutro showed no reaction to the decision, read about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The case drew widespread attention after prosecutors asked the court to allow Facebook messages from Dutro into evidence.

In one message to her boyfriend, Brian Canady, Dutro wrote using a slur that Zachary would be gay. “He walks like it and talks like it ugh,” she wrote. That made her angry, she added, and directed Canady to “work on” Zachary “big time.”

Prosecutors told the court the message showed Dutro’s motive for subjecting Zachary to a pattern of abuse. Judge Don Letourneau deemed the messages admissible.

Once the nature of Zachary’s injuries was discovered, his siblings were examined and were found to have been physically abused also. His younger brother had five broken ribs and his sister had several serious bruises.

The boyfriend, Brian Canady, pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault last month for his role in Zachary’s death.

Dutro apparently showed no emotion during the reading of the verdict.

In my opinion, this is when the death penalty is in order.

The deep South really likes watching online gay porn

Click graphic to enlarge

Buzzfeed and online porn giant Pornhub recently teamed up to find the states that stream the most gay porn from the prolific site.  In the map above, the orange states indicate where same-sex marriage is still banned and the pink states show where the gays have access to marriage equality

What they found was that the highest levels of gay porn viewers are in the South, where, incidentally, marriage equality is outlawed by the states homophobes.

Holding the number one position, with a record 5.58% gay users, is a state where “sodomy” is still illegal: Mississippi.

Louisiana is closely on its rear at 5.44%, and Georgia with 5.38%.

DUCK DYNASTY continues slide in ratings

I guess we’ll never know ALL the reasons why, but coming right on the heels of Duck Dynasty patriarch’s anti-gay comments last month the series has taken a significant hit in the ratings.

From Variety:

One week after returning to kick off its fifth season with a 3.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.5 million viewers overall, “Duck Dynasty” slid to a 2.9 in the demo and 6.65 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.

This is the smallest same-night crowd for an original episode of the series since the second-season finale drew 6.45 million in December 2012.

ABC denounces anti-gay “pervert: comments by BACHELOR star Juan Pablo Galavis

ABC released a statement yesterday distancing itself from comments made by Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis that gays are “perverted” and therefore a gay-themed version of The Bachelor would not set a “good example” for children.

Said ABC:

“Juan Pablo’s comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive, and in no way reflect the views of the network, the show’s producers or studio.”

Watch ABC’s report below:

The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galavis “apologizes” to those he MIGHT have offended calling them “perverts”

THE BACHELOR’s Juan Pablo Galavis offers one of those “sorry to those I might have offended” apologies for his VERY offensive statements regarding gay people like “There’s this thing about gay people… it seems to me, and I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not… but they’re more ‘pervert’ in a sense.”

I don’t know HOW that could possibly be taken as offensive. NOT.

I have to say – it’s just after 2pm and the recording of Juan Pablo saying these things surfaced early this morning. He clearly has the worst publicist and management team in the world. They took THIS long to write this?????

Here’s the ‘fauxpology’ from the stand up example of morality – a man who thinks it’s a good example to look for love on a reality show with 20 women in a hot tub:

“I want to apologize to all the people I may have offended because of my comments on having a Gay or Bisexual Bachelor.

“The comment was taken out of context. If you listen to the entire interview, there’s nothing but respect for Gay people and their families.

“I have many gay friends and one of my closest friends who’s like a brother has been a constant in my life especially during the past 5 months. The word pervert was not what I meant to say and I am very sorry about it. Everyone knows English is my second language and my vocabulary is not as broad as it is in Spanish and, because of this, sometimes I use the wrong words to express myself.

“What I meant to say was that gay people are more affectionate and intense and for a segment of the TV audience this would be too racy to accept.

“The show is very racy as it is and I don’t let my 5 year old daughter watch it.

“Once again, I’m sorry for how my words were taken. I would never disrespect anyone.

First of all, I’ll post the recording of his comments again. The comment is not taken out of context. He says what he says. That kind of line is text-book publicist damage control thinking most people won’t hear the original statements. Unfortunately for Galavis his comments were recorded by a reporter.

Second, it’s offensive to me that he begins with “want to apologize to all the people I may have offended.”  May have offended?  Really?  Because some folks aren’t offended when they are called a “pervert?”

And third, defaulting to “I have many gay friends” is even more offensive to me.  Like when bigots would say “some of my best friends are black.”

He said gays are perverts.  Period.  Just own it, apologize and cut it there.

And get better publicists.  They’re slow and not very creative.

UPDATE:  The show’s network, ABC, issued this statement:

“Juan Pablo’s comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive, and in no way reflect the views of the network, the show’s producers or studio.”

UPDATE II:  The Bachelor star spoke to GLAAD by phone. The gay rights organization quoted Galavis via a statement:

“I have heard from many gay Latinos today who are hurt because of what I said and I apologize.

“I know gay parents and I support them and their families. They are good parents and loving families. I am a father and I know the feel of being a father, why wouldn’t I want my gay friends to also be happy parents?

“I also want gay and lesbian youth to know that it is fine to be who you are. Gay or straight, Black or White, Latin or American, what matters here is to respect who we are.

“I look forward to meeting with gay and lesbian families as well as Monica and Wilson from GLAAD.

“Gay and lesbian people, and the children they are raising, wrongfully face discrimination and I want them to know that I’m on their side.”

CNN reports on Russian vigilantes who hunt down and torture gays

CNN’s Phil Black reports on the Russian vigilantes who ambush gay men, humiliate them, torture them and then post videos of the activities online.

Remember, so-called Christian activists here in the US, like Trestin Meacham in Utah, would tell you gays and lesbians aren’t really bullied or targeted; that these things don’t happen.

According to Trestin’s Facebook page, to report that the bullying of gays is “some kind of social trend is ridiculousness” and a “myth.”

ABC’s latest “Bachelor” Juan Pablo Galavis says gays are “perverts” and shouldn’t be on THE BACHELOR

ABC's The Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis says gays are perverts and confuse children

Between hot tubs and romantic moments, we’re used to participants on ABC’s The Bachelor expose themselves. But the latest “Bachelor” Juan Pablo Galavis may have exposed a bit more than he meant to when asked about the idea of a possible gay or bisexual “bachelor” in the future.

At a recent network party, Galavis was asked whether or not he thought the hit ABC reality show featuring a gay or bisexual bachelor would be a “good idea.” Galavis reportedly told The TV Page’s Sean Daly:

“No… I respect [gay people] but, honestly, I don’t think it’s a good example for kids…”

“There’s this thing about gay people… it seems to me, and I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not… but they’re more ‘pervert’ in a sense. And to me the show would be too strong… too hard to watch.”

Emphasis in the quote above is mine.

In the middle of the discussion, it should be noted that Galavis points out “his boy Peter at the party, who is apparently gay and Galavis “respects 100%.” Because if you have a gay friend you can’t be a homophobe, right?

In related news, according to RadarOnline, that staunch, moral family man that he is – Galavis reported had his wages garnished by the state of Florida for not paying child support for his two year old daughter.

THE VIEW’s Sherri Shepherd: Just because I think gays are going to hell doesn’t make me homophobic

In a recent interview with Fusion host Alicia Menendez, The View‘s Sherri Shepherd said that she thinks she’s very misunderstood about her stance on homosexuality and the fact that just because she thinks gays are going to hell doesn’t make her homophobic:

“I think people don’t know my heart,” Shepherd told Menendez. “I think people feel I’m very judgmental. I think people feel I’m very homophobic. If they knew me, and knew my heart. … You grow up being a Christian and you grow up believing homosexuality is a sin; you’re going to hell if you’re a homosexual. This is something that they teach in churches. So it’s something that I grew up believing.”

“I might not agree with your lifestyle, but I love you,” Shepherd continued. “You may not agree with my lifestyle, but you love me … I don’t say it’s a choice. If you tell me, ‘Sherri, I was born gay.’ OK. I’m not gonna argue with you, because I can’t tell you how you feel and what’s going on inside. I’m trying to make it into heaven by the skin of my teeth … I don’t know who I’m gonna see. So if you tell me you’re born [gay], I’m not gonna argue with you. And I absolutely respect you for that. I just ask that people respect how I feel, [I] respect how you feel and we can have a great dialogue.”

Christian pastors want Rose Bowl Parade float featuring stoning homosexuals

Kevin Swanson (L) and Dave Buehner (R)

Right Wing Watch reports:

Pastors Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner of Generations Radio are upset about a float at the Rose Bowl parade that included a married gay couple which, despite nasty attacks from anti-gay activists, went off without incident (and even won an award).

Buehner was perplexed by the fact that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation sponsored the float, saying that its “pro-homosexual propaganda” would “spread AIDS.”

He added: “I wonder what the Rose Bowl parade would do if we had the stoning of a homosexual along the parade just as an expression of free speech and all that.”

Swanson: They’ll also witness a controversial same-sex wedding, courtesy of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. According to the Pasadena Star News, a pair of homosexual hairstylists will ‘marry’ along the parade route while riding a wedding cake-shaped float sponsored by the AIDS group.

Buehner: This is an AIDS group? This is a group that’s against AIDS? They’re not trying to spread AIDS right? I mean, if you are trying to spread AIDS you would have pro-homosexual propaganda but if you’re trying to stop it….

Swanson: They may be serving lemonade too as part of the event, I hope not but maybe.

Buehner: I wonder what the Rose Bowl parade would do if we had the stoning of a homosexual along the parade just as an expression of free speech and all that.

Swanson: I think that would be rejected by the Rose Bowl parade committee.

Buehner: Well what if the stones were just made like of flowers and flower pedals?

Swanson: I don’t know if they’d allow that or not. Anyway ladies and gentlemen, this is another instance in which the degradation of our society is going mainstream.

So, just so I’m clear: Buehner wants to compare the exchange of loving marriage vows with staging a violent stoning death of a human being?

Really? Is that what Christ would do?

Swanson went on to say that the gay community is “coming after Christians” and will have them “burned at the stake.”

He described the fight as a “battle between good and evil,” warning “Christians will be destroyed by the other side” unless the government begins to “prosecute homosexuality, especially public acts of homosexuality.”
