Jim Obergefell Supports Hillary Clinton For President

Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the U.S. Supreme Court case that brought marriage equality to all of the U.S. has thrown his support for the 2016 presidential campaign to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Via the Washington Blade:

“We have fought to not only change laws, but to change hearts, and now we need a president who will help us fight to eliminate the injustices that occur regularly in our community, and the best person to do that is Hillary Clinton,” Obergefell said. “Hillary is a proven leader who will not only ensure that states are implementing marriage equality, but will work to end discrimination in our community whether it’s by passing the Equality Act or through state measures. I refuse to let Republicans undo the progress that we’ve made, and that is why we need Hillary Clinton in the White House because she will be by our side as we break down barriers and finally reach full equality for all.”

The Clinton campaign issued this statement:

“Jim made history and changed America for the better by fighting for marriage equality all the way to the Supreme Court,” said Hillary Clinton “There are still too many places where LGBT Americans are targeted for harassment and violence, and there are too many young people who are uncertain and scared of what their future might hold. Right now in America, you can get married on Saturday and be fired from your job on Monday just because of who you love. I see the injustices that are happening in our country, and that is why I’m committed to working with Jim and others to end discrimination against the LGBT community once and for all.”

This news comes on the heels of a Public Policy Poll published after the second Democratic debate this past Saturday which showed 67 percent of respondents thought Clinton won, followed by 20 percent for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and 7 percent for former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

Hillary Clinton Continues Strong Lead In National Poll

Results of a new CBS News/New York Times poll shows former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the main beneficiary of Vice President Joe Biden’s decision to not make a run for president in 2016.

Based on a random sample of 1,495 adults (1,259 registered voters), 52% of those who identify as Democrats say they support Hillary Clinton versus 33% for Sen. Bernie Sanders – a 19 point lead.

This mirrors the RealClearPolitics poll average that shows in the most recent surveys (in the last month) Hillary’s average lead over Bernie is 21.6 points.

Poll: Hillary Clinton Increases Lead Over Sen. Bernie Sanders For Democratic Nomination

The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton increasing her lead to the tune of 2-1 over Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Via MSNBC:

In the new poll, conducted Oct. 25-29, 62% of Democrats chose Clinton as their top choice to win their party’s presidential nomination, while 31% picked Sanders. Former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley received just 3% support.

That’s up from Clinton’s 25-point lead earlier in October, 58% to 33%.

Eighty-four percent of Dems see Clinton as the eventual nominee; only 12% expect Sanders to secure the nomination

Hillary Clinton Would Not Save Big Banks Should Another 2007 Financial Crisis Occur

Appearing on The Late Show last night, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton was asked if she would allow big banks to fail should the country face a similar crisis as happened in 2007.

Her answer? “Yes.”

“First of all, under Dodd-Frank, that is what will happen because we now have stress tests and I’m going to impose a risk fee on the big bank if they engage in risky behavior,” she elaborated. “But they have to know, their shareholders have to know that yes, they will fail. And if they’re too big to fail then under my plan and others that have been proposed, they may have to be broken up.”

“Because if you can’t manage it, it’s more likely to fail,” she said.

I should also make note of the fact that Hillary consistently includes LGBT rights in her stump speeches and interviews. What a world of difference in politics in only a few years.

Hillary Clinton Surges In Iowa

Eyebrows were raised yesterday when the results of the first Monmouth University poll in Iowa showed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had bounced up to an amazing 41% lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination.

From the Washington Post:

If this month has been a giant, delicious cake layered with all of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s favorites, then Monmouth University just slathered on a whole lot of icing. Its new poll puts Clinton up 41 points in Iowa — the widest lead she’s seen there in any poll since June. Or: since before the Bernie Sanders surge.

It’s a good time to go back to the polling average compiled by Real Clear Politics. In an average of recent polls, Clinton is up in Iowa by a more modest 15.5 points — still more than enough to inspire a few high fives around the office in the manner of a stereotypical successful political campaign.

It’s worth noting two massive events that occurred in the past week: Vice President Biden announced he would not run for the nomination, and Clinton’s confident and commanding appearance at the congressional Benghazi hearing.

Legendary Newsman Dan Rather On Hillary Clinton & The Benghazi Hearing

Legendary journalist Dan Rather posted this on Facebook regarding Hillary Clinton’s testimony this week at a Congressional hearing investigating the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi:

Hillary Clinton has done a lot in her life. But I think she likely cleared her path to the Democratic nomination for president, and maybe very well the Oval Office itself, by what she didn’t do. She didn’t lose her cool.

Her performance in a grueling marathon of a Congressional hearing on Benghazi (or more accurately on Clinton herself and maybe Sidney Blumenthal?) was one of poise, stoicism, self-confidence and maturity. Just the sort of attributes her questioners lacked. In the language of poker, she was drawing aces and the committee was drawing deuces. They might not admit it publicly, but even many Republican leaders know it’s true. Hillary Clinton is a stronger general election candidate today than she was before the hearing.

It has often been said that you vote for president with your heart more than your head. And I think for all the questions about Clinton’s record among the Democratic base, whether she is progressive enough on economic issues or too hawkish on foreign policy, the real sense of unease boiled down to intangible questions about her personality, values and character.

Yesterday assuaged many of those concerns. When combined with her recent debate performance and Biden deciding not to run, this is arguably one of the best stretches of her political career. Where are all those whither Hillary articles now? It is still early and a lot can still go wrong, but I believe this is the Hillary Clinton that so many Democrats wanted to love – tough, smart, unflappable, a woman who is ready to be president.

Hillary Clinton Sees Record-Breaking Campaign Donations After Benghazi Hearing

I got home last night from rehearsals here in Florida (where I’m staging Hello, Dolly!) in time to watch the end of the marathon 11 hour Benghazi hearing with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The spectacle was, at times, incredible to behold as Hillary Clinton handled the badgering from Republican congress members with a lot of confidence and poise.

It would appear I’m not the only one who was impressed.

The Clinton campaign saw record fundraising last night in the hour immediately following the end of the hearings. The Hill reports:

Clinton’s director of communications, Jennifer Palmieri, told a gaggle of reporters after her boss’s speech to a Democratic National Committee women’s forum Friday morning that Clinton had her best hour of online fundraising during the entire campaign so far.

The record money poured in between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, just after the daylong hearing on the 2012 Benghazi attacks had ended, Palmieri said. “People were apparently paying attention and were moved by it [the Benghazi hearing],” Palmieri said, without specifying a dollar figure for the amount of money raised.

Asked whether the Clinton campaign team had been using the former secretary of State’s Benghazi testimony to solicit cash on Thursday night, Palmieri said it had not.

“We had, like, a hashtag ‘I’m with her’, and show you’re with her, show you’re staying with Hillary … but we didn’t ask for money.”

I have to say – as I’ve seen folks say all over the internet – the Repubs must be kicking themselves in the head. They were trying to hurt Hillary’s campaign and it seems the effect has been the exact opposite.

Hillary Clinton Laughs At Rep. Martha Roby’s “Home Alone All Night” Question

There was one question at the Benghazi hearing that made Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton crack up in laughter Thursday.

Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time of the Benghazi attack, testified Thursday about the incident before the special House committee tasked with investigating it.

After hours of inquiries, a question from Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) made Clinton erupt with laughter.

“Who else was at your home, were you alone?” Roby asked.

“I was alone, yes,” Clinton replied.

“The whole night?” Roby asked.

“Well, yes, the whole night,” Clinton said, bursting with laughter.

“Well, I don’t know why that’s funny,” Roby said.

Clearly, asking a married woman if she was home alone “all night” is an awkward kind of question.
