Just 15 hours after testing positive for the coronavirus, Donald Trump will be hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. From CNN:

Trump was due to be flown aboard his Marine One helicopter to the hospital. It is routine for the President to travel to Walter Reed aboard Marine One.

In a statement, the President’s spokeswoman said Trump “remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day.”

When it comes to iconic sneakers, heck, when it comes to the entire history of footwear, you’d be hard-pressed to come up with a more beloved or influential shoe than the Superstar

“Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the President will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days,” press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said. “President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the First Lady.”

Trump reportedly has a fever, congestion, and a cough. There have been no announcements regarding whether Trump plans to transfer power to Pence temporarily as he remains in the hospital. For his part, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told the nation via Twitter, “This cannot be a partisan moment. This must be an American moment. We have to come together as a nation.” The Biden campaign also announced it is pulling attack campaign ads and will only air positive ads for the time being.

Joe Biden Tests Negative For Coronavirus & More Updates

The Washington Post reports former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, have tested negative for coronavirus. Some folks were concerned that, in light of Donald Trump testing positive for the virus, and the two men shared a stage without face masks on Tuesday night, that Biden might have been exposed. Let’s hear it for social distancing! Other updates regarding Trump and the coronavirus: • The Trump campaign has cancelled all previously scheduled events while the president is quarantined for the next several days. • Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who attended Trump’s Supreme Court announcement on Saturday has tested positive for the coronavirus and told the press he will self-quarantine for 10 days. • Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, also tested positive for the coronavirus and has experienced mild symptoms from Covid-19. • Vice President Mike Pence and his wife have tested negative as well. • The coronavirus has infected over 7.2 million Americans and killed over 207,000.

The hits keep coming… Last night it was revealed that close personal aide to Donald Trump, Hope Hicks, had contracted the coronavirus after traveling in close quarters with the president for days. According to the New York Times, White House officials knew about Ms. Hicks’s probable diagnosis since Wednesday evening, when she traveled with the president aboard Air Force One to Minnesota for a campaign rally and began to exhibit symptoms. She was quarantined on the return flight to Washington and exited Air Force One from the back entrance of the plane. As news reports began to scurry about wondering if Trump might have been exposed to the virus – Trump has famously disregarded his own administration’s guidelines regarding face mask wearing and social distancing – Trump confirmed with Fox News’s Sean Hannity during a phone-in interview that Hicks had tested positive for the virus and that he and the First Lady were tested and awaiting results.

A couple of hours later, Trump tweeted that he and Melania Trump had, in fact, contracted the coronavirus. The president reportedly is exhibiting symptoms from the virus. Stay tuned…

Report: Kimberly Guilfoyle Left Fox News After Asst Accused Her Of Sexual Harassment

Kimberly Guilfoyle (screen capture)
According to The New Yorker, Kimberly Guilfoyle, girlfriend to Donald Trump Jr., didn’t leave Fox News Channel in July 2018 under what you might call “good circumstances.” In fact, the New Yorker is reporting tonight that a former assistant to Guilfoyle sent company executives “a 42-page draft complaint that accused Guilfoyle of repeated sexual harassment, and demanded monetary relief.”

The woman was hired in 2015, just out of college, to work as an assistant for Guilfoyle and another former Fox host, Eric Bolling.

According to a dozen well-informed sources familiar with her complaints, the assistant alleged that Guilfoyle, her direct supervisor, subjected her frequently to degrading, abusive, and sexually inappropriate behavior; among other things, she said that she was frequently required to work at Guilfoyle’s New York apartment while the Fox host displayed herself naked, and was shown photographs of the genitalia of men with whom Guilfoyle had had sexual relations.

The draft complaint also alleged that Guilfoyle spoke incessantly and luridly about her sex life, and on one occasion demanded a massage of her bare thighs; other times, she said, Guilfoyle told her to submit to a Fox employee’s demands for sexual favors, encouraged her to sleep with wealthy and powerful men, asked her to critique her naked body, demanded that she share a room with her on business trips, required her to sleep over at her apartment, and exposed herself to her, making her feel deeply uncomfortable.

Apparently, the accusations are tied into the departure of Guilfoyle’s former co-host at Fox News, Eric Bolling, who left the cable news channel due to allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Good grief. Multiple sources tell the New Yorker  the female assistant agreed to a $4 million settlement. Guilfoyle denied the accusations through her lawyer. The rumors that Guilfoyle was forced out of her position at Fox News years before her contract ended were first reported by HuffPost in 2018.

On The Passing Of Helen Reddy – We Heard Her ‘Roar’

Helen Reddy (photo: Francesco Scavullo – public domain)
I was so sad to hear the news that Australian pop star Helen Reddy passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. The singer had battled dementia for years. As longtime readers of The Randy Report know, I’m a fan of those pop music voices that are so singular you can recognize them in an instant. Reddy was one of those artists. Her first success in the U.S. came after her future-husband, Jeff Wald, talking Capitol Records into recording a single with Reddy. The release (“I Believe in Music”) was a flop but led to an accidental B-side hit with “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar hitting #13 on the Billboard charts. Of course, Reddy’s biggest hit (and one of the few she co-wrote) was her iconic anthem, “I Am Woman,” from 1971. The hit song made her the first Australian-born singer to reach #1 on the Billboard charts and garnered the Aussie her only Grammy Award (Best Pop Vocal Performance – Female). In accepting the honor, she famously thanked God, saying: “Because She makes everything possible.” She followed that with a string of hits including “Delta Dawn,” “Angie Baby,” “Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)” and “Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady” – which would earn a second Grammy nod for the artist in 1975. Hollywood embraced Reddy as well as she appeared in movies and TV shows including starring in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon (featuring Reddy singing the Oscar-nominated “Candle on the Water”) and handling semi-regular hosting duties on the 1970s variety series The Midnight Special. In 1973, she also had her own summer variety show, The Helen Reddy Show.

In the 1980s, she found artistic and financial success starring in stage musicals, most notably taking over the lead role of “Mrs. Johnstone” in Blood Brothers on Broadway. She also starred in productions of Anything Goes, Shirley Valentine and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Here’s what looks to be press footage from Blood Brothers featuring the star singing “Easy Terms” and the finale, “Tell Me It’s Not True.”

Thanks to those successes, she recorded an album of theater songs for Varese Sarabande Records in 1997 titled Center Stage. My husband, Michael, was the Vice President of Marketing and Publicity at the time and worked with Reddy in promoting the collection, including a cheeky photoshoot with several shirtless hunks (which Reddy LOVED). At the end of the shoot, she told Michael he had to be a part of the shoot and demanded he take off his shirt. And so, this happened.

I loved the album which featured such wide-ranging songs as “The Writing on the Wall” (Drood), “The Party’s Over” (Bells Are Ringing), “Blow Gabriel Blow” (Anything Goes) and this terrific take on “Knowing When To Leave” from the 1960s hit, Promises, Promises.

Reddy was a singular talent who rightfully deserves her place in music history. Rest in peace, Helen Reddy.

Charlie Carver Came Out After A Slap In The Face For Appearing ‘Gay’ In Public

Charlie Carver in ‘The Boys in the Band’ (image via Instagram)
Charlie Carver, one of the actors starring in the new Netflix screen adaptation of The Boys in the Band, shares in an interview with Variety that he decided to publicly come out five years ago after being on the receiving end of a literal slap to the face for not appearing masculine in public. According to Carver, he was attending an Emmy Awards party in 2015 when a gay colleague criticized him three times throughout the evening for how he ‘presented’ himself. “I was told that I needed to ‘get it under control’ around people in the business,” Carver shared with Variety. At the end of soiree, Carver ran into his friend while waiting for his car at the valet. Asking his colleague for ‘clarification’ about the earlier comments, the man slapped Carver across the face. “It wasn’t playful but intentional, pointed and meant to be instructive. A slap,” says the actor. “I told him that if he ever touched me again, I would name him.” While the episode was certainly shocking for its physicality, Carver, who is 32-years-old today, says, “That was the moment when I said to myself, ‘I can’t do this. I cannot police myself in that way.’” The actor, who was best known at the time for regular appearances on Desperate Housewives and Teen Wolf, came out a few months later in January 2016 via his Instagram account.

Pt 1: “Be who you needed when you were younger”. About a year ago, I saw this photo while casually scrolling through my Instagram one morning. I’m not one for inspirational quotes, particularly ones attributed to “Mx Anonymous”- something mean in me rebukes the pithiness of proverbs, choosing to judge them as trite instead of possibly-generally-wise, resonant, or helpful. And in the case of the good ol’ Anonymous kind, I felt that there was something to be said for the missing context. Who wrote or said the damn words? Why? And to/for who in particular? Nonetheless, I screen-capped the picture and saved it. It struck me for some reason, finding itself likeable enough to join the ranks of the “favorites” album on my phone. I’d see it there almost daily, a small version of it next to my other “favorites”; I’d see it every time I checked into the gym, pulled up a picture of my insurance cards, my driver’s license…. Important Documents. And over the course of about-a-year, it became clear why the inspirational photo had called out to me. As a young boy, I knew I wanted to be an actor. I knew I wanted to be a lot of things! I thought I wanted to be a painter, a soccer player, a stegosaurus… But the acting thing stuck. It was around that age that I also knew, however abstractly, that I was different from some of the other boys in my grade. Over time, this abstract “knowing” grew and articulated itself through a painful gestation marked by feelings of despair and alienation, ending in a climax of saying three words out loud: “I am gay”. I said them to myself at first, to see how they felt. They rang true, and I hated myself for them. I was twelve. It would take me a few years before I could repeat them to anyone else, in the meantime turning the phrase over and over in my mouth until I felt comfortable and sure enough to let the words pour out again, this time to my family…

Two years later, Carver made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning revival of Mort Crowley’s iconic play about gay men at a birthday party in Greenwich Village, The Boys in the Band. All of the actors in the highly-acclaimed production were openly gay/bisexual. The entire cast was reunited, along with the production’s director Joe Mantello, by producer Ryan Murphy for the newly-released TV version of the play. Carver stars in Boys as the hunky “Cowboy,” a hustler hired as a gift for “Harold,” the birthday boy in the story played by Zachary Quinto.

Carver is also currently appearing as a series regular in Murphy’s new psychological thriller for Netflix, Ratched, in which the handsome actor plays “Huck Finnagan,” a disfigured hospital orderly. And he’s set to appear in the upcoming The Batman alongside Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz. Carver recently told The Advocate he’s “felt this sort of sense of relaxing” into himself since coming out. “To have kind of other champions in this business who gave me a chance, Ryan Murphy being one of them, they saw something in me and they let me be a part of it,” Carver shared. “Then opportunities led to other opportunities … I started kind of stepping into myself, and I believe when you do that, doors open.” You can catch Carver (and all the ‘boys’) in The Boys in the Band, currently streaming on Netflix.

The State Of Battleground State Polls: October 1, 2020

The New York Times updates its average of polls (national and battleground states) every day. The latest data shows Joe Biden leading nationally by 7 points, but national polls can be vague. The important thing to watch are the polls in battleground states. Knowing Donald Trump won the presidency by flipping usually true-blue states Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on that trio. As of today, the NYTimes average of polls in those states puts Biden ahead by 7 points in all three. If Biden flips all three back to his column, he wins. The other state I’m keeping my eye on is Arizona which Trump won in 2016 by 3.5 points. Today’s polling average shows Biden leading by 4 points. Also worth noting that Democratic Senate candidate Mark Kelly is leading the incumbent Sen. Martha McSally in the Real Clear Politics average of polls by 5.2 points, which also bodes well for Biden. The Times also explores various outcomes based on the state of today’s polling. For instance, if you were to assign electoral votes based on the states where a candidate is currently leading by 3 points or more, Biden would be projected to win with 291 electoral votes. If you translated the polls directly into electoral votes (won’t happen) Biden would win with 359 electoral votes. And IF we assumed the polls are as wrong as they were in 2016, Biden would still squeak by with 280 electoral votes. It’s all hypothetical until the votes are counted, but it’s interesting to keep up.

Biden Will Attend Town Hall Event In Miami Hosted By NBC News

Former Vice President Joe Biden (image via campaign)
Deadline reports that former Vice President Joe Biden will participate in a Town Hall event hosted by NBC News’s Lester Holt on October 5 in Miami, Florida. The event was announced following last night’s wild debate between Biden and Donald Trump. Biden previously participated in a similar event earlier this month in Scranton, Pennsylvania, hosted by CNN. Socially distanced attendees took part from the safety of their cars. NBC News has also extended an invitation to Trump to do a similar event. Trump took part in an ABC News Town Hall in September. Candidates and their campaigns favor such events because taking questions from ‘everyday people’ can offer an appealing connection to voters.
