Gallup: More Americans Identified As LGBT In 2017 Than Ever Before

According to Gallup’s daily tracking poll in 2017 (based on over 340,000 interviews), the percentage of American adults identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) rose to 4.5% in 2017, up from 4.1% in 2016 and 3.5% in 2012 when Gallup began tracking the measure.

The two biggest stats to note are: more people are identifying as LGBT than ever before, and the biggest surge in those who see themselves as LGBT are in the younger age demographics.

The biggest one year jump came in the millennials age group (born between 1980 and 1999) which showed an increase from 7.3% in 2016 to 8.2% in 2017. That’s the largest one-year increase since Gallup began tracking the issue in 2012.

Gen Xers (born 1965 to 1979) bumped up a tad from 3.2% in 2016 to 3.5% in 2017.

There was no change for Baby Boomers (born between 1946-1964) who maintained a steady 1.4% identifying as LGBT.

And, yes, there is a gender gap. More women (5.1%) see themselves as LGBT compared with only 3.9% of men.

When it comes to race, Hispanics (6.1%) were more than a percentage point more likely to identify as LGBT than other ethnic groups – Black (5.0%), Asian (4.9%) and White (4.0%).

Since Gallup began tracking the issue in 2012, LGBT identification has been and is more common among those with lower incomes. The income gap was even larger in 2017 than it has been in previous years, with 6.2% of those making less than $36,000 a year in household income identifying as LGBT, compared with 3.9% of those making $90,000 or more.

LGBT demographic experts say younger people who are LGBT are feeling more and more comfortable over time with their sexual orientation, and thus are more likely to identify as such.

Jake Tapper Trolls Trump With Partial List Of His Lies

Just a few of the lies Donald Trump has told to the nation

Delicious.

Jake Tapper on CNN today:

“While we’re sticking to the facts and telling you what we know, President Trump has no constraints since he simply makes stuff up. He frequently lies and has a long and well documented conspiracy theories with no concrete evidence ever provided.

“For years he perpetuated the myth that Obama was not born in the United States, and that he saw thousands of Muslims on TV celebrating 9/11, and he suggested Ted Cruz’s father might have been involved in the assassination of JFK, again zero evidence for this.

“I could go on but this is just an hour show.”

Jake Tapper rocks my afternoons 🙂

Bakery – We Have A Cake Malfunction

openpostcumcake-500x441.jpg

True story – a mother wanted to celebrate her son’s graduating with honors from high school.

So, she ordered a cake from her local Publix grocery store.

But things didn’t go as planned because the bakery deliberately left off the middle word in “Summa Cum Laude” because the bakery’s system thought it was a nasty word.

Come On, You Guys – Everyone Call It ‘SpyGate’

fetch.jpg
Donald Trump invents his own catch phrase “SpyGate” –

Donald Trump really, really wants his nickname “SpyGate” to take off so, so badly.

Asked if he had any proof regarding his allegations the FBI embedded a spy in his 2016 campaign, the Trumpster repeated his pet phrase: “We now call it Spygate. You are calling it Spygate.”

Like, totally out of Mean Girls, you know?

From The Washington Post:

Trump’s claim is that the FBI put a “spy” in his campaign at the behest of Barack Obama’s White House as part of an effort to undercut his candidacy by alleging collusion with the Russians. It’s hard to square that claim with 1) Trump’s repeated insistence that the Russia investigation began only after he won as an excuse for the Democrats’ loss, and 2) the fact that America only learned about the investigation into Russian collusion after voting had already occurred.

If Obama and the Democrats put a spy in his campaign to undercut his chances, they made a small strategic error by not mentioning anything publicly before votes were cast. But that’s the claim, because internal consistency is not a requirement for any conspiracy theory, much less this one.

In a contrast to his early morning Tweetstorm, he backtracked a bit when asked if he has any proof of the allegations saying, “I hope it’s not true, but it looks like it is.”

“A lot of bad things have happened,” Trump told reporters. “I want them all to get together. They will sit in a room. Hopefully they will be able to work it out among themselves.”

By the way, if you’d like a detailed explanation about the difference between a “spy” in Trump’s campaign and the FBI investigating Russian interference, check out this Twitter thread.

And yes, we all remember what happens when you try to make up your own catch phrase:

Matt Bomer’s Wet & Wild Broadway Debut

Matt Bomer

Magic Mike/White Collar star Matt Bomer dropped by The Tonight Show recently to chat on his Broadway debut in the revival of the gay-themed play, The Boys in the Band.

Bomer shared with Jimmy Fallon how during one of the performances of the play he didn’t check his props. That prop in question would be the towel he is supposed to wear after a shower onstage.

“My character takes a shower within the first five minutes of the play,” the handsome actor explained. “And I realized there was no towel for me when I got out of the shower.”

Bomer realized he had two options: either do the rest of the scene naked or put his underwear back on his soaking wet body.

Apparently, the wet underwear got the nod which means everyone won!

Bomer also shares that he’s taking his soon-to-be 13-year-old son Kit to the Tony Awards this year.

It’ll be the teen’s first awards show, but he assured his dad, “I know there’ll be a lot of people there but I don’t crack under pressure.”

In a sign Kit has been around show biz, he did add, “But, is someone going to do my hair?”

Clearly, the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree…

Federal Judge Rules Donald Trump Can’t Block Critics On Twitter

A federal judge has ruled Donald Trump cannot as President block his critics on Twitter
Donald Trump

A federal judge in New York has ruled that President Donald Trump is in violation of the First Amendment by blocking critics on Twitter for political speech.

From USA Today:

A group of Twitter users sued the president in July after the @realDonaldTrump account blocked them from replying to his messages. The seven users had each tweeted a message critical of the president before they were blocked.

“Blocking of the individual plaintiffs as a result of the political views they have expressed is impermissible under the First Amendment,” Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote in the decision.

“While we must recognize, and are sensitive to, the president’s personal First Amendment rights, he cannot exercise those rights in a way that infringes the corresponding First Amendment rights of those who have criticized him,” she wrote.

The White House did not immediately have a comment on the ruling.

Now, how many of you think Trump will unblock anyone? Show of hands please…?

Trump Claims A Spy Infiltrated His Campaign

trumpcarerip.jpg
Donald Trump

Harking back to his accusations that the Obama administration “wire-tapped” his Trump Tower phone lines, Donald Trump took to Twitter to rant to his followers about the “Criminal Deep State,” “Phony Collusion” and blah blah blah.

The Trumpster is annoyed at reports that an FBI informant made contact with the Trump campaign in 2016 as part of the federal investigation into Russian election meddling and ties to his team.

You know, that’s what the FBI does when they have credible evidence folks are working with foreign players to influence an election.

Former FBI director James Comey called Trump out as our leader “who will lie about anything:”

Out Music: Ryan Amador “Loverboy”

Out singer-songwriter Ryan Amador shares his latest single, “Loverboy,” with a flirty/romantical music video directed by and co-starring (hot!) Jesse Scott Egan.

Amador’s soulful pop/R&B vocals are perfectly paired with a shadowy, sexual tryst 😉

Amador sings:

And you make me feel safe
You make me feel loved
Even though you’re trying to be
Tougher than you are
But you’re such a loverboy
You’re such a loverboy
And I see it in your eyes

Major Movies Featured Fewer LGBTs In 2017

(still from Call Me By Your Name)

While the LGBTQ community was giddy over the success of gay-themed Call Me By Your Name at this year’s Academy Awards where James Ivory won the Oscar for “Best Screenplay,” a new study shows depictions of LGBTQ characters in movies released by major studios last year actually declined.

LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD took a look at the 109 films released by major studios in 2017. And in issuing their annual Studio Responsibility Index found that gay, lesbian, bi, trans and queer characters appeared in only 14 films (12.8%).

That marks a precipitous drop from the 18.4% of major studio films found to be inclusive in 2016. Indeed, this is the lowest percentage of films featuring LGBTQ characters since GLAAD began reporting on the issue in 2012.

Additionally, GLAAD notes that many of the gay characters in 2017 films were barely seen on screen. Looking at the 14 films that included LGBTQ characters, in half of them the LGBTQ characters had less than five minutes of screen time.

There was some good news to report: diversity increased as 16 of the 28 LGBT-identified characters were people of color. That makes for 57% of the total characters in 2017 versus only 20% in 2016.

It’s important to note that the report did not include the LGBTQ representation in the films released by the smaller, boutique labels like Sony Pictures Classics, which produced Call Me By Your Name, and Fox Searchlight, which served up the Billie Jean King/Bobby Riggs redux, Battle of the Sexes.

When you add those outlets to other similar offices – like Universal’s Focus and Lionsgate affiliate Roadside Attractions – to the mix, you do get a more diverse, inclusive result.

Of the 40 films released by those labels in 2017, 28% contained LGBTQ characters, which is almost double the 17% in 2016.

In a recent interview with Time Out London, Sir Ian McKellen spoke about the lack of LGBTQ representation in Hollywood:

“Well, nobody looks to Hollywood for social commentary, do they? They only recently discovered that there were black people in the world. Hollywood has mistreated women in every possible way throughout its history. Gay men don’t exist. Gods and Monsters [1998], I think, was the beginning of Hollywood admitting that there were gay people knocking around, even though half of Hollywood is gay.”
