From Rochester First:
In April, James Mault of Brockport and Cody Mattice of Hilton both pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal officer or employee. In the plea agreement, their case was prevented from going to trial, and sentencing was limited to be between 37 and 46 months in prison.
The two were delivered the same sentencing of 44 months of incarceration, with 36 months of supervision following their respective releases. In addition, the two were both ordered to pay “special assessment” fines of $100 each, and $2000 each in restitutions to the architects of the Capitol.

Local news anchor Adam Chodak gave this play-by-play on Twitter:
Mattice asks for sentence on lower end of the spectrum citing family circumstances. Prosecution says those circumstances existed when he decided to attack the US Capitol and police and even bragged over text about his actions to his family. https://t.co/6RLZBQkOqE

Mault argues his military service should be factored into sentencing. Prosecution says that service makes his actions even more offensive because he was “acting in disgrace to his oath.” https://t.co/S6Eh1hplPu

Mattice’s attorney calls his client uneducated and unsophisticated and warped by what’s on the internet and adds he feels embarrassment and shame. Also says Mattice, while he used pepper spray on officers, he didn’t lay hands on anyone. Judge sees no difference. https://t.co/QuBn4Rpsvs

Mattice is crying through his unscripted statement and telling the judge he regrets what he did saying he was ignorant and “this is something I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life.” He also apologized to the officer he pepper sprayed. https://t.co/Rnv76aO2uB

Mault also apologized to the officer and all law enforcement that day. He says he came that day just to protest (brought gear he says for defense against groups like Antifa) and got caught up in mob mentality. Cried at the end talking about losing his job and maybe his marriage. https://t.co/C8B2PZOM62

Judge, getting ready to announce their sentence, says this was not a last-minute trip and they were at the front of the mob that broke through the barriers adding Mault “ironically yelled at officers that he never breaks the law.” She says the 2 deliberately took aim at officers. https://t.co/W6TqKT5grZ

Judge: They were not patriots on Jan. 6. They were criminals. https://t.co/XLR1Hb2YD3
