Trump Admin Accidentally Texted Detailed War Plans To Journalist

The story of the day has to be the Trump administration accidentally including journalist Jeffrey Goldberg (editor-in-chief at The Atlantic) on a private group text chat that discussed the planning of military attacks on the Houthis. “The world found out shortly before 2 p.m. eastern time on March 15 that the United States was bombing Houthi targets across Yemen,” writes Goldberg for The Atlantic today. “I, however, knew two hours before the first bombs exploded that the attack might be coming,” he continues. “The reason I knew this is that Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, had texted me the war plan at 11:44 a.m. The plan included precise information about weapons packages, targets, and timing.” The Signal thread included Vice President Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, along with other officials. Perhaps even more stunning, hours after the story went viral, Trump told reporters he hadn’t heard anything about it.

The Washington Post

is reporting a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said the message thread “appears to be authentic,” and that administration officials were “reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.” But wait – there’s more! Folks also noted in the published chat excerpts that Vice President JD Vance raised doubts about the president’s foreign policy decisions: “I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now. I think we are making a mistake.”

I can remember when Republicans raged about mishandling government secrets and sending via unsecured channels. Let’s take a trip in the way-back machine…
