The story of the day has to be the Trump administration accidentally including journalist Jeffrey Goldberg (editor-in-chief at The Atlantic) on a private group text chat that discussed the planning of military attacks on the Houthis. “The world found out shortly before 2 p.m. eastern time on March 15 that the United States was bombing Houthi targets across Yemen,” writes Goldberg for The Atlantic today. “I, however, knew two hours before the first bombs exploded that the attack might be coming,” he continues. “The reason I knew this is that Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, had texted me the war plan at 11:44 a.m. The plan included precise information about weapons packages, targets, and timing.” The Signal thread included Vice President Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, along with other officials. BREAKING: The Trump admin accidentally texted a journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg, from The Atlantic, their top-secret war plans on Yemen.
Texts are below between Vance and Hegseth, in which the journalist was included. Imagine if Biden did this! So incompetent. pic.twitter.com/CGIkNq0iNX — Brian Krassenstein (@krassenstein) March 24, 2025
Perhaps even more stunning, hours after the story went viral, Trump told reporters he hadn’t heard anything about it.
BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Donald Trump admits that he has no idea what his own administration is up to, when asked about the major lapse in security when war plans were accidentally shared over Signal with a reporter.
Make sure everyone sees this.pic.twitter.com/Jy4IKgT8EV — Really American (@ReallyAmerican1) March 24, 2025
The Washington Post
is reporting a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said the message thread “appears to be authentic,” and that administration officials were “reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.” But wait – there’s more! Folks also noted in the published chat excerpts that Vice President JD Vance raised doubts about the president’s foreign policy decisions: “I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now. I think we are making a mistake.”

This is possibly the most insane national security story in the last 50 years. Includes a massive text chain between senior members of the Trump admin gaming out foreign policy and war plans on Signal, and they accidentally added a reporter to the group chat. https://t.co/9mrYzQkOFp pic.twitter.com/thu7jlFtnv
