Capitol Riot Suspect Who Stole From Pelosi’s Office Released Pending Trial

A U.S. Capitol insurrectionist who bragged about stealing body armor, lying to the FBI, breaking into Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s office and stealing items has been released from custody prior to his trial. From The Daily Beast:

Despite the fact that Capitol insurrectionist William Robert Norwood III allegedly stole body armor, lied to the FBI, and “led a pack of rioters through the inner sanctum of Speaker Pelosi’s office space” where he lifted a paper coaster, he has been released pending his trial, according to Department of Justice documents seen by The Daily Beast.

He is charged with two felonies: obstruction of an official proceeding and theft of government property.

Norwood, who goes by Robbie, boasted to family members about assaulting a law enforcement officer, according to court documents. “It worked,” he wrote to family members. “I got away with things that others were shot or arrested for.”

He went on to brag of his bounty. “I got a nice helmet and body armor off a cop for God’s sake and i disarmed him,” he wrote in messages to friends and family. “Tell me how that works.”

Norwood is being released due to his lack of a criminal past. The Daily Beast had previously reported that Norwood had bragged to his brother that he “fought 4 cops” at the riot after dressing as “antifa” members. “I’ll look just like ANTIFA. I’ll get away with anything.” He also shared a selfie in a group chat in which he appeared to be wearing a Capitol Police vest. His brother responded: “What the actual fuck is wrong with you?”

UPDATE: The New York Times reports the suspect was shot and killed. CBS News correspondent Skyler Henry reports one of the injured officers has died.

The U.S. Capitol went into lockdown after two Capitol Police officers were reportedly struck by a vehicle near the north entrance to the U.S. Capitol building. From the New York Times:

The Capitol complex was locked down, as the agency instructed staff to remain indoors, away from doors and windows, as eyewitnesses posted videos of a large law enforcement response.

“A suspect is in custody,” the Capitol Police said on Twitter. “Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital.”

Images from the scene posted on social media appeared to show emergency workers treating someone on the driveway of the Capitol.

I don’t need to add much commentary here except to remind folks that Trumpers claim to be ‘the party of law and order.’ The footage was taken during the invasion of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. In the clip, one Capitol Police officer is being crushed in a doorway amid masses of people. At one point you can see one of the insurrectionists reach up and rip away the officer’s mask while he was wedged in, screaming in pain. When the camera pans back to the officer, he is maskless and bloodied, screaming for help. And suddenly, blue lives stopped mattering.

The video footage was captured by investigative outlet Status Coup.

Jake Angeli, the QAnon horned shaman aka Jacob Anthony Chansley, has been arrested for his part in the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol this week. From the Department of Justice: Jacob Anthony Chansley, a.k.a. Jake Angeli, of Arizona, was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. Chansley was taken into custody today. It is alleged that Chansley was identified as the man seen in media coverage who entered the Capitol building dressed in horns, a bearskin headdress, red, white and blue face paint, shirtless, and tan pants. This individual carried a spear, approximately 6 feet in length, with an American flag tied just below the blade. The ATF and FBI continue to urge the public to report suspected use of explosive devices, or violent, destructive acts associated with the recent unrest.
