Hallmark Channel Drops Then Reinstates LGBTQ Inclusive Commercials

The Hallmark Channel is having a decidedly difficult December. The cable television channel announced on Thursday it would stop airing four ads from the wedding planning website Zola which included lesbian brides kissing in marriage ceremonies after virulently anti-LGBTQ organization One Million Moms complained about the spots. At the time, a spokesperson for the company told the New York Times it did not accept ads “that are deemed controversial.”  The spokesman said the women’s public displays of affection “violated the channel’s policies,” but didn’t elaborate as to why a nearly identical ad featuring a bride and groom kissing was not rejected.

Zola then announced it would pull all of its advertising from the channel. In a statement released on Sunday, president and CEO Mike Perry said the team at Hallmark Channel’s parent company, Crown Media Family Networks, had “been agonizing over this decision as we’ve seen the hurt it has unintentionally caused” and that “they believe this was the wrong decision.” “Our mission is rooted in helping all people connect, celebrate traditions and be inspired to capture meaningful moments in their lives,” he said. “Anything that detracts from this purpose is not who we are. We are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused.” Perry added his company would work with national LGBTQ media advocacy group GLAAD “to better represent the LGBTQ community across our portfolio of brands,” and that it planned on contacting Zola to “re-establish our partnership and reinstate the commercials.”

“We were deeply troubled when Hallmark rejected our commercials for featuring a lesbian couple celebrating their marriage, and are relieved to see that decision was reversed,” said Mike Chi, the chief marketing officer of Zola. “We are humbled by everyone who showed support not only for Zola, but for all the LGBTQ couples and families who express their love on their wedding day, and every day.” Sarah Kate Ellis, the president and chief executive of GLAAD, said: “The Hallmark Channel’s decision to correct its mistake sends an important message to LGBTQ people and represents a major loss for fringe organizations, like One Million Moms, whose sole purpose is to hurt families like mine. LGBTQ people are, and will continue to be, a part of advertisements and family programming, and that will never change.” Amid all the flip-flopping by Hallmark, Freeform, formerly ABC Family which has created LGBTQ-friendly content like The Fosters, The Bold Type, and Good Trouble, tweeted that it would be happy to air Zola’s inclusive ads over the holidays. “This is what happens when you focus all your energy on exclusion instead of clever plotlines,” tweeted Freeform. “Call us, Zola. We celebrate the holidays with everyone.”

Earlier in December, the Hallmark Channel network was targeted by outraged conservatives after CEO Bill Abbott said he was “open” to creating LGBTQ-themed holiday movies last month. (image via screen capture)

One Million Moms Rants About Drag Queen Story Hour At Whole Foods

Bigoted anti-LGBTQ group One Million Moms (really just 94k) is throwing a new temper tantrum, this time aimed at Whole Foods Market for hosting a Drag Queen story hour.

In an email to their supporters, the group moans about the retailer who “once promoted organics and clean food” saying the upscale grocer is now “saturated in absolute filth, exploiting America’s children to be ‘groomed’ by drag queens.”

Pointing to a Drag Queen story hour held in Atlanta, Georgia, One Million Moms calls the events an attempt to “indoctrinate children into transgenderism and homosexuality” and “to normalize the LGBTQ lifestyle.”

The group is equally mad at Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms for having the nerve to endorse the “disturbing” events.

OMM may try to paint a picture of “child exploitation,” but the fact of the matter is the events have been hailed across the country for encouraging children to get more involved in reading.

The drag queen aspect works because children have no preconceived ideas about bigotry or judgement, and allow their imaginations to take flight during the story hours.

And when you think of it, where does OMM’s get off trying to deny a child learning about being fabulous?

Personally, this just makes me want to go spend money at my nearest Whole Foods Market.

FYI – those so-called ‘one million moms’ have generated just barely 7,000 signatures on their sad little petition.

So, there you go…

First-Ever Gay Couple On Cover Of ‘Parents’ Magazine And Conservatives Are Outraged

Inspirational fitness coach Shaun T (of the ‘Insanity’ workout) and his husband, Scott Blokker, cover the February issue of Parents magazine as they share their years-long journey to becoming parents to twins Silas and Sander.
Fitness guru Shaun T and hubby Scott cover the newest issue of PARENTS

A group of ‘Christian’ conservative consumers has lost their collective minds over a gay couple appearing on the cover of a mainstream parenting magazine.

Inspirational fitness coach Shaun T (of the ‘Insanity’ workout) and his husband, Scott Blokker, cover the February issue of Parents magazine as they share their years-long journey to becoming parents to twins Silas and Sander.

Shaun and Scott are the first-ever same-sex couple to appear on the cover of the 93 year history of the publication.

In the article, the couple chronicle the “twelve attempts, six egg donors, five surrogates, two doctors, one miscarriage, and thousands of dollars” they went through before the arrival of their children in November of 2017.

But the misleadingly-named ‘One Million Moms,’ an off-shoot of the anti-LGBTQ hate group American Family Association, are angry at the coverage.

In a blog post, the group moans, “Parents is using its magazine as a platform to promote the pro-homosexual lifestyle.”

No, they’re celebrating the joy of a happy family.

The group, whose Facebook page has nowhere near a million followers, whines that “Mothers and fathers are seeing more and more similar examples of children being indoctrinated to perceive same-sex couples as normal, especially in the media.”

The haters go on to say that “this agenda is a deal breaker,” although whose ‘deal’ is being broken isn’t clear.

They also accuse Parents of trying to “force a lifestyle on the American public that the medical community identifies as unhealthy.”

Ultimately, OMMs asks folks to sign a petition from which they can possibly harvest your email address for mass fundraising campaigns.

At this writing, the petition has garnered a tepid 7,500 signatures.

Fail. (sad trombone sound here)

I think Shaun, Scott and family are fabulous. Make sure you click over to the magazine website to read the article.

And since we’re here, let’s take a trip through the fitness buffs’ Instagram account, shall we?

“One Million Moms” Attacks Disney Channel Over Gay Crush Storyline

Right on cue.

Earlier today I reported about the upcoming LGBTQ storyline to be featured on the Disney Channel show, Andi Mack.

Among other storylines, the show will chronicle a school boy’s first crush on another male student.

Well, you knew those hideous “One Million Moms” folks would get in an uproar.

Via email:

Alerting all parents! Additional controversial content will be included in the Disney Channel show “Andi Mack” during season two, premiering Friday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT. 1MM earlier warned parents this program is not suitable for a kids’ network, and now the show is introducing the network’s first gay character.

In a first for the Disney Channel, the show “Andi Mack” will spend an hour focusing on one of the main characters coming out as gay. Young teen Cyrus Goodman is a key member in the program’s cast. During the season two premiere, he’ll make Disney Channel history as he grapples with his feelings for another boy. And in subsequent episodes, he’ll work these feelings out along with having a new girlfriend.

By choosing to abandon family-friendly entertainment, Disney’s inexplicable choice to move toward more “adult” fare may ultimately prove to be a huge mistake. Disney’s first gay kiss aired earlier this year on Disney XD’s animated series “Star vs. the Forces of Evil.” The scene took place at a concert where the band played a romantic tune that inspired many couples in the audience to kiss; a few of those couples — none of which involved a main character — were same s*x.

The Disney Channel is deliberately choosing to “move forward” and promote adult content to children. By choosing to move in the direction of more “adult” stories and content, the Disney Channel – and the entire Disney media empire – may be choosing to sacrifice something far more precious… children’s innocence.

You know, these folks would have no problem with a storyline of a teen girl experiencing her first crush on a boy at school.

The fact of the matter is: young, emerging gays experience first crushes and brushes with affection just like everyone else. It’s a natural part of life.

Kids aren’t confused about “the gay thing” other than why bigoted grown-ups are apoplectic about it.

One Million Moms Loses Their Minds Over Two Animated Same-Sex Characters Kissing

Oh, good grief.

From the homophobic One Million Moms via email:

Alerting all parents! In a first for the Disney Channel, a Disney XD show subtly displayed several gay kisses in an episode that aired a couple of days ago. The “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” episode featured a scene at a boy band concert where several people, including same sex couples, kiss on cue with the music. The gender of various other kissing couples in the crowd is not always visible.

[snip]

This is the last place parents would expect their children to be confronted with content regarding sexual orientation. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is becoming extremely common and unnecessary. Disney has decided to be politically correct versus providing family-friendly entertainment. Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda. Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid mature and controversial topics.

The fleeting moment happens at the 1:27 moment as five or six other animated couples having a smooch.

Can you believe folks care about this???

One Million Moms Has A Cow Over Carls Jr’s “Tex Mex” Commercial

From the constantly concernstipated One Million Moms (who are really more like about 40,000):

Will Hardee’s ever learn? They are at it again with another disgusting ad. Their current sensual ad follows the pattern set by their last commercial featuring girls in skimpy shorts playing in a volleyball game. These ads are extremely degrading to women and should be pulled off the air immediately. The restaurant’s most recent ad shows scantily clad models licking sauce in provocative poses. 1MM has had enough of CKE’s soft porn ads!

One Million Moms Protest NBC’s New Series “One Big Happy”

As if on cue, One Million Moms (more like 60K) is off their bat about the new NBC TV show “One Big Happy” which features a pregnant lesbian mom having a baby with her best male friend, who just married his new wife.

OMMs is über-upset.

NBC’s “One Big Happy” is attempting to desensitize America and our children. This new show is damaging to our culture and harmful to our society for a number of reasons. This program glamorizes one night stands, n-dity, homosexuality, and foul language (such as v-gina and b-tch). 1MM is prepared to contact sponsors of “One Big Happy” requesting they pull financial support from the program. It is proven this strategy works!

It was not too long ago that NBC announced “The New Normal” had been canceled after only one season because of lack of advertisers! Please use the information we have provided to contact Synsodyne (GlaxoSmithKline) and ask they pull their financial support from “One Big Happy.”

I wasn’t aware “vagina” was a foul word? And they can’t even write the word “nudity” without dropping the “u?”

Seriously.

One Million Moms Goes After The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

One Million Moms is going after the evil, lust-filled folks at Sports Illustrated for the “soft-porn” cover image of Hannah Davis on this year’s “Swimsuit Issue.”

From the OMM website:

The 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue features a model wearing a string bikini top and bottoms so tiny that she is just about n-ked. The bikini bottoms are not much bigger than a Band-Aid plus she has both of her thumbs at the sides pulling them down as far as she can get away with. It is beyond ridiculous!

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is nothing but soft p-rn and most closely resembles Pl-yboy magazine than resembling an issue about swimming attire. This soft core p-rnography is displayed in many family stores, often at checkout counters which is offensive, disgusting, and disrespectful to families. This type of publishing is also extremely degrading to women.

Families should be able to enter supermarkets, convenience and drug stores without being subjected to indecency. Since Sports Illustrated is pushing p-rnography, this magazine needs to be removed from stores immediately. Not only should Sports Illustrated be ashamed, but so should the stores that carry this filthy magazine. Why would a store risk hurting their reputation of being a family-friendly store by being associated with this dishonorable publication?

One Million Moms suggests shoppers should pick up an issue and show it to the store manager asking “why are you pushing porn?”

I think that will fix the situation. Don’t you?

Yeah…..

Super Bowl Commercial: Carls Jr. “All Natural Burger”

One Million Moms is already protesting this “extremely inappropriate” commercial from Carls Jr. promoting their new “All-Natural Burger.”

Via email:

Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s, both owned by CKE Restaurants, are at it again by using sex to sell burgers.

Their new ad is extremely inappropriate to air at any time, but especially while families are likely watching. Their “All-Natural” commercial will surely ruin family time once again.

The commercial that will be shown at the Super Bowl features a woman who appears to be naked as she walks through a farmer’s market. This is as close to complete nudity as you can get because she appears to be nude until the end when she is in full view wearing a string bikini top and tiny shorts while eating a hamburger from Carl’s Jr.

TAKE ACTION: Please contact Carl’s Jr. (CKE Restaurants) through our website and ask them to pull their Super Bowl ad immediately! Also encourage them to be more responsible next year if they choose to run ads during the Super Bowl again. If they would like our support, they must no longer air sexually explicit ads.

Trust me – this commercial will NOT ruin any male viewers TV viewing experience. Straight and gay men will love this. Plus, several lesbians I know.  So, no worries One Million Moms.
