Some news items you might have missed: • Washington Blade: Reports indicate an Iranian man’s relatives killed him after they discovered he was gay. The Iranian Lesbian and Transgender Network wrote on its website that Ali Fazeli Monfared, 20, was kidnapped in Ahvaz, a city in Iran’s Khuzestan’s province on May 4. His body was found – beheaded – a day after his disappearance. • Pink News: In a new interview with GQ Style UK, Grammy Award winner Lil Nas X has revealed that he thought God was “tempting” him with his feelings for men, admitting he “never wanted to be gay.” • Gr8erDays: Mantique of the Day is Gerard Christopher, who is turning 62 today. This marks his second Hot 100 #1 after his breakthrough smash “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, reigned for a record 19 weeks in 2019. • The Advocate: Kate Winslet is speaking out against the “judgment, discrimination, and homophobia” in Hollywood that is preventing actors from coming out. Some news items you might have missed: • The Advocate: Arkansas’s state legislature has approved a bill that would bar doctors from prescribing hormones and puberty blockers for people under 18 which have been shown to have a positive effect on young transgender people. • LGBTQ Nation: A Turkish thug allegedly kidnapped and beat a deaf gay man. The thug then posted photos of the gay man covered in his own blood after the beating to social media. According to reports, the police have apprehended the assailant. • Instinct Magazine: Fans of the new Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (above and below) believe the creators are dropping clues that Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) might be bisexual.

• Axios: A Tampa-area man lost his job at a marketing and web design company after a TikTok user exposed his video advertising a fake COVID-19 vaccine card business. James Koncar’s fake vaccination card video — which included the caption “F*ck masks” — was highlighted by Mississippi pharmacist Savannah Malm, who has posted other viral call-out videos linked to the pandemic. • Mediaite: During an event in Kentucky at the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hazard Clinic promoting vaccines, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was specifically asked about vaccine hesitancy among Republican men. Recent polling has shown nearly half of Republican men saying they wouldn’t get the vaccine. “As a Republican man, as soon as it was my turn, I took the vaccine. I would encourage all Republican men to do that,” replied McConnell. • Twitter: Even though Lil Nas X has racked up over 37 million views of his new music video “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” conservative detractors have been busy calling the Grammy Award winner out. New Music: Lil Nas X ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’

Lil Nas X dropped his new music video, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” on the same day that his blockbuster hit “Old Town Road” became the most streamed single in the U.S. As the 21-year-old recording artist released the new video, he took a second to send a message to his 14-year-old self via Twitter. Addressed to “14-year-old Montero” (his legal name is Montero Lamar Hill), the artist wrote:

“I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for so many other queer people to simply exist. You see, this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be.”

In the music video, Nas appears in drag, shirtless, wearing knee-high boots and eventually giving a certain red-faced demon a lap dance. At this writing, the video has nearly 5 million views in less than a day. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is now available on all download/streaming sites here.

Dolly Parton, Lil Nas X And More Announced For 31st GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that it will host a virtual ceremony for the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, July 30 in place of the original ceremonies planned for earlier this year. The event will stream on GLAAD’s Facebook and YouTube on July 30 at 8pm ET and will air on Logo on August 3 at 8pm ET. The 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally. GLAAD announced that comedians Fortune Feimster and Gina Yashere will host the virtual ceremony on July 30, which will feature a special performance from Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle. Lil Nas X And Other LGBTQ Artists Score At The 62nd Grammy Awards

It was a great night for LGBTQ artists and allies at the 62nd Grammy Awards Sunday night. Several out artists picked up awards including: Lil Nas X scored two trophies – Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his mega-hit “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus. The country rapper performed the song with all the artists who had been featured on “Old Town Road” remixes last year including BTS, Diplo, Mason Ramsey, and Cyrus.

Brandi Carlile, who came out in 2002, took home a Grammy as one of the songwriters of Tanya Tucker’s “Bring My Flowers Now” in the Best Country Song category. She also appeared in the broadcast performing the song with Tucker. DJ Tracy Young made history as the first woman and the first lesbian to win for Best Remixed Recording for her remix of Madonna’s “I Rise.” LGBTQ allies also had major moments throughout the night. Lady Gaga picked up Grammys in two categories – Best Song for Visual Media (“I’ll Never Love Again”) from the A Star Is Born soundtrack and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. Billie Eilish won in four big categories – Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Lizzo, the most nominated artist of the night with 8 nods, picked up trophies for Best Pop Solo Performance (“Truth Hurts”), Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Jerome”) and Best Urban Contemporary Album (Cuz I Love You). And there were performances that stole the show. Out singer Demi Lovato had one of the night’s most talked-about moments as she delivered a powerful performance of her song “Anyone.” The song immediately went to #1 on iTunes after the performance.

Pop diva and ally Ariana Grande, who didn’t go home with a Grammy, was a knockout performing a three-song medley of “Imagine,” “7 Rings,” and “Thank U, Next.”

Special shout-out to Darrion Gallegos, the male dancer in her corp who lived his best life dancing it out in heels and short shorts along with the other dancers. Back in December, as Grande’s tour came to an end, he thanked the powers that be for letting him “gender-bend the fak out of this” and contribute his part for the LGBTQIA+ community.

And of course, it wouldn’t be an awards show without a red carpet and Billy Porter delivering the goods:

Lil Nas X Wins Grammy Award For ‘Best Music Video’

Lil Nas X won the first award presented today at the Grammy Awards as he and Billy Ray Cyrus scored for Best Music Video for “Old Town Road” marking his first win of the evening and his first win ever. “THANK U TO EVERYBODY!! I AM NOW GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST LIL NAS X !!!” he shared on Twitter. He also shared a thank you on Instagram, posting a snippet of the modern-day Western video and writing “GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST LIL NAS X!!!!” Shortly after that, the artist removed the social media posts out of respect for the loss of Koba Bryant. Billboard reports:

Lil Nas could be a six-time Grammy winner by the end of the night, as he’s one of this year’s most-nominated artists with six nods. “Old Town Road” is also up for record of the year and best pop duo/group performance, “Panini” is up for best rap/sung performance, 7 is up for album of the year, and Lil Nas X is up for best new artist.

Lil Nas X Makes History As 1st Openly Gay Man To Win CMA Award

Lil Nas X, the first openly gay man to be nominated for a Country Music Association Award, made history again last night taking home the trophy for ‘Musical Event of the Year’ with Billy Ray Cyrus for their mega-hit, “Old Town Road.” “I wasn’t sure if this was going to able to take place tonight,” Lil Nas X said afterward reports USA Today. “I am so happy this was accepted because it is the bridging of two completely polar opposite genres put together. I’m just happy, you know, it has gotten respect in both communities.”

The song got off to a rocky start with the country music industry. “Old Town Road” reached #19 on Billboard‘s “Hot Country Songs” chart before removing the song for not being ‘country’ enough. The massive hit went on to sit at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-setting 19 consecutive weeks. Equally stunning was the song’s continued success within the country music world after Lil Nas X came out as gay in June.
