Donald Trump Doesn’t Know The Words To “God Bless America”

Last night, Donald Trump cancelled an event honoring this year’s Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles, because only ten agreed to show up.

Trump is sooooo popular. #Not

As soon as Trump attacked the Eagles for “staying in the locker room” and being “disrespectful to our country,” folks chimed in rightfully noting that NONE of the Eagles’ players took a knee during the recent NFL season nor did they stay in the locker room to avoid the anthem.

Even the mayor of Philadelphia clapped back with a statement which read, in part, “Our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”

Suh-Nap!

The White House folks had to scramble to put together a substitute event for the now uninvited Eagles. As you can see, Trump promised to play the national anthem “and other wonderful music.”

One of the songs played at today’s event was “God Bless America” by the great Irving Berlin.

But, cameras rolling, it was soon apparent the Donald didn’t know the words.

By the way, according to Guardian journalist Bryan Graham, the event today  – with the national anthem and “God Bless America” – lasted a total of 8 minutes.

In fact, this isn’t the first time the Poser-In-Chief was revealed to not know the lyrics to our country’s songs. Earlier this year, the Trumpster was caught unable to even mouth the words to the national anthem.

Donald Trump Declares He Has “Absolute Right” To Pardon Himself

Earlier today, Donald Trump declared via Twitter that he has “the absolute right to PARDON” himself.

The Trumpster goes on to wonder, “But why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?”

It’s hard to get beyond the idea that Trump is evening TALKING about his ability to pardon himself…

If you’re innocent, why would you even bring up pardoning yourself???

Just, odd.

Under this thinking, why didn’t Bill Clinton “absolutely pardon” himself?

Or, why didn’t Richard Nixon just pardon himself and remain president?

Thankfully, I’m not the only one who thinks this was weird:

White House Lawyers Admit Trump Dictated Cover-Up Letter For His Son

Wow.

In a newly released memo, Donald Trump’s lawyers admitted for the first time that Trump dictated a statement to deceive the public about his son’s June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian government lawyer.

From CNN:

In a confidential letter to special counsel Robert Mueller in January, President Donald Trump’s legal team acknowledged for the first time that Trump “dictated” the first misleading statement put out about his son’s controversial 2016 meeting with Russians at Trump Tower.

“You have received all of the notes, communications and testimony indicating that the President dictated a short but accurate response to the New York Times article on behalf of his son, Donald Trump, Jr.,” the letter said, according to The New York Times, which published a copy of it. “His son then followed up by making a full public disclosure regarding the meeting, including his public testimony that there was nothing to the meeting and certainly no evidence of collusion.”

Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow, NBC interview, 7/16/17: “The President was not — did not — draft the response. The response came from Donald Trump Jr. and — I’m sure — in consultation with his lawyer. … Let me say this — but I do want to be clear — that the President was not involved in the drafting of the statement and did not issue the statement. It came from Donald Trump Jr.”

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, daily press briefing, 8/1/17: “He certainly didn’t dictate, but he — like I said, he weighed in, offered suggestion like any father would do.”

The White House has denied any involvement in the misleading statement which originally described the meeting was about child adoption. Instead, emails showed Russian actors were offering dirt on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr. took the meeting after responding, “I love it!”

Donald Trump Throws Former Campaign Chair Paul Manafort Under The Bus

President Trump continued his attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice this morning, this time for not informing him during the 2016 election cycle that his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was being investigated at the time.

Ranting on Twitter, Trump tweeted that Manafort “came into the campaign very late and was with us for a short period of time,” but said the campaign “should have been told that Comey and the boys were doing a number on him, and he wouldn’t have been hired!”

Manafort joined the campaign team in June 2016, but stepped down two months later after media reports of his dealings with the Ukraine government came to light.

It might be time to cut that deal with the Special Counsel, Mr. Manafort.

Manafort has been charged with dozens of crimes including bank fraud, money laundering, conspiracy and more.

Donald Trump Moans About Russian Election Investigation Costs Which Are Less Than His Golf Trips

Donald Trump has suddenly become very concerned about the cost and expense of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in our elections here in the U.S.

The Trumpster took to Twitter today to moan yet again calling the investigation a “very expensive Witch Hunt Hoax.”

It was reported by several news outlets yesterday that Mueller’s efforts have thus far cost the government about $16.7 million.

Citing the federal government’s $4.1 trillion budget for fiscal 2018, the Washington Post puts these numbers in perspective like this: spending $16.7 million of $4.1 trillion is like making $50,000 a year and spending 20 cents.

However…

The conservative group Judicial Watch told the Associated Press that each of Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Lago cost about $1 million, including only Air Force One travel and Secret Service protection.

Trump has been to Mar-a-Lago 17 times, for a grand total of $17 million in flight and protection costs.

Wait.

That’s, like, more than has been spent on Mueller’s investigation into protecting American elections from Russian interference!

And that doesn’t include his trips to Just to his club in Bedminster, N.J., costs more than $40,000 in travel time (9 times he’s been there). Or to his golf club in Sterling, Virginia – 31 visits there.

Now, which is more important – protecting our democratic processes or Trump getting on his own golf courses so he can cheat at golf again?

If Trump is sooooo concerned about expenses, how about he cut back on his illegitimate golf games?

Trump Lowers Expectations As He Announces North Korea Summit Back On

After canceling the much-ballyhooed summit with North Korea, Donald Trump now says the meeting with “supreme leader” Kim Jong-Un is back on.

But.

The Trumpster made a point of lowering expectations for the outcome saying this will be more of a “get-to-know-you” kind of meeting (cough**photo-op**cough).

The summit was cancelled by the president last week on the grounds that Mr. Kim’s government had shown “open hostility” toward his administration.

The president rescheduled the get-together with Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, barely a week after scrubbing it on the grounds that Mr. Kim’s government had shown “open hostility” toward his administration. In the days since, both sides worked to bridge the divide and proceed with the meeting.

The reversal followed an Oval Office meeting on Friday afternoon with a high-ranking North Korean envoy who delivered a personal letter from Mr. Kim to Mr. Trump. The envoy, Kim Yong-chol, the former North Korean intelligence chief and top nuclear arms negotiator, became the first North Korean official to set foot in the White House since 2000 and only the second ever to meet with a sitting American president.

Trump Pardons Conservative Filmmaker, Ponders Possible Pardon For Martha Stewart

Donald Trump announced today he has pardoned a conservative pundit (and ally) and is now considering a pardon for lifestyle expert Martha Stewart.

Additionally, Trump is reported to be looking at commuting a former Illinois governor’s prison sentence.

Via Reuters:

Trump announced his decision to pardon pundit and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to U.S. campaign finance law violations and was an outspoken critic of Democratic former President Barack Obama, on Twitter, saying he had been “treated very unfairly by our government!”

The Republican president then told reporters on a flight to Houston he was also considering a pardon for Stewart, who was convicted in 2004 on charges of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements in an insider-trading probe.

James Comey, who Trump fired as FBI director last year and has repeatedly attacked, was the lead federal prosecutor in Stewart’s case and played a role in the prosecution of Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the chief of staff to former Vice President Dick Cheney. Trump pardoned Libby in April.

Trump also said he might commute the 14-year prison sentence of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat convicted of corruption charges, and was considering pardoning a woman convicted of a drug-related charge after reality TV star Kim Kardashian discussed the case with him on Wednesday.

D’Souza was found guilty of breaking campaign finance laws in 2012 by using straw donors to raise $20,000 — far more than the legal limit — for his friend Wendy Long, who was running for U.S. senator.

He paid a $30,000 fine, spent eight months partially confined and served nearly five years probation before Trump announced the pardon via tweet.

D’Souza says he was targeted by the FBI for prosecution because of his documentary, 2016: Obama’s America, which took a negative view of President Barack Obama.

He was not “treated very unfairly” in that he actually broke the law he plead guilty to. Trump likes D’Souza because he criticized Obama.

D’Souza took to Twitter to mock former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara (“He got fired & I got pardoned”) whose office prosecuted D’Souza’s case and was fired by President Trump last year.

Trump Denies He Ever Told NBC’s Lester Holt He Fired Comey Over Russian Investigation

On May 12, 2017, in front of a national TV audience, Donald J. Trump told NBC news anchor Lester Holt why he fired former FBI Director James Comey:

“In fact when I decided to just do it [fire Comey], I said to myself, I said ‘you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.'”

Today, that same Donald Trump (we think – unless aliens have invaded his body) tweeted to the world, “Not that it matters but I never fired James Comey because of Russia! The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!”

And yes, his followers will believe him.

Trump Twitter Rant: I Wish I’d Never Hired Jeff Sessions

Another day, another Twitter rant from Donald Trump.

On today’s menu: the Trumpster returns to an old favorite – “I wish I’d never hired Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.”

Ah yes, it’s an oldie but goodie.

Trump spun off several missives about Sessions’ recusal in the Russian interference investigation quoting outgoing Congressman Trey Gowdy:

“I don’t think so, I think what the President is doing is expressing frustration that Attorney General Sessions should have shared these reasons for recusal before he took the job, not afterward. If I were the President and I picked someone to be the country’s chief law enforcement officer, and they told me later, ‘oh by the way I’m not going to be able to participate in the most important case in the office, I would be frustrated too and that’s how I read that – Senator Sessions, why didn’t you tell me before I picked you……There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!” And I wish I did!

This is all probably related to a new report in The New York Times that shows Sessions traveled to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in March of 2017 thinking he was going to discuss his boss’ proposed travel ban.

Instead, Trump reportedly asked Sessions to reverse his decision to recuse himself on the Russian investigation so that the president would have a “loyalist” in the mix. Sessions declined.

By the way, Trump might be quoting Rep. Trey Gowdy here, but he’s ignoring Gowdy’s support for the FBI’s use of an informant in the ongoing Russian probe.

Outgoing Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the House Oversight Committee Chairman and Trump supporter, said in an interview on Fox that the FBI was justified in using a secret informant to assist in the Russia investigation. Gowdy, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, attended a classified Justice Department briefing last week over the FBI’s use of the confidential source, identified as Stefan A. Halper.

“President Trump himself in the Comey memos said if anyone connected with my campaign was working with Russia, I want you to investigate it, and it sounds to me like that is exactly what the FBI did,” Gowdy told host Martha MacCallum. “I think when the president finds out what happened, he is going to be not just fine, he is going to be glad that we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard.”

Trump’s On-Again, Off-Again North Korean Summit

A high-ranking official from North Korea is traveling to the United States to meet with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an effort to revive Donald Trump’s on-again-off-again summit meeting with the nation’s “supreme leader,” Kim Jong-Un.

The summit meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Singapore on June 12 but was unexpectedly cancelled by Trump. Some say he shelved the meeting before North Korea could do the same, thus, embarrassing Trump.

From The New York Times:

Mr. Trump said on Twitter that Kim Yong-chol, one of the most trusted aides to the North’s leader and a former intelligence chief, was “heading now to New York.” In a reference to the moves made since he canceled the on-again-off-again summit meeting, the president added, “Solid response to my letter, thank you!”

The former intelligence chief, who is 72, has been at the side of the North Korean leader, 34, during a recent whirl of diplomacy, meeting with South Koreans in the Demilitarized Zone dividing the peninsula and with the Chinese.

Mr. Kim’s trip to the United States starts the most important negotiating track leading up to the summit meeting. Over the weekend, a team of American diplomats met with North Korean officials in the Demilitarized Zone, and White House logistics experts have been talking with North Koreans in Singapore about arrangements for the leaders’ meeting there.
