Music has always been an integral touchstone to important moments in my history, as well as my go-to for emotional release.
That’s probably why I revisit this clip of Bette Midler singing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ at a memorial at Yankee Stadium shortly after the horrific bombings on 9/11. Continue reading “Bette Midler Channels The Raw Emotion Of 9/11”
A recent Billboard article compiled a list of “Songs That Helped Us Grieve And Heal” after 9/11. Included in the list was “Grand Central Station” penned by my musical hero, Mary Chapin Carpenter. Continue reading “Songs That Helped Us Heal: Mary Chapin Carpenter “Grand Central Station””
As I reported earlier today, all of the living former presidents and first ladies (except 96-year-old Jimmy Carter) took part in today’s ceremonies recognizing the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S. Continue reading “Same Day…”
Music is always my “go-to” for emotional release. So it’s no wonder each year I revisit this clip of Bette Midler singing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ at a memorial at Yankee Stadium shortly after the horrific bombings on 9/11.
This encapsulates so much of what we felt then and still feel today.
Her “thank you” at the 4:30 mark says so much on behalf of so many.
As only Bette could deliver…
Also – my fellow LGBTQ blogger, Joe Jervis, shares his personal account of what it was like to be in New York City on that day. Well worth the read.
President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were joined by former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, and former First Ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton at a ceremony in New York City commemorating the 20th anniversary of the deadly 9/11 attacks. Umm…
On one of the most solemn occasions in the history of the United States, the First Lady can’t say the Pledge of Allegiance?
I usually leave political spouses out of things, but this is really quite odd.
p.s. it looks like the Donald forgot half of the Pledge including the “under God” part, which is ironic since he accused Democrats of leaving that out of the pledge during their convention last month.
Neither one of them has any idea what the words to the Pledge of Allegiance are. I bet the Obamas and the Bidens and the Emhoff-Harrises know them. I bet the Romneys, McCains, Bushes, Clintons, Gores and Carters know them. I bet Bernie Sanders and AOC know them. pic.twitter.com/T8ZCsWXZTo

BREAKING: Trump apparently refuses to say “under god,” during the Pledge of Allegiance. Remember the outrage by Republicans when a Democrat did this? pic.twitter.com/LaAYLHcicm

I like presidents who don’t forget the words to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Black athletes kneeling to the flag and anthem is not offensive. The President of the United States not knowing the Pledge of Allegiance is, especially during a 9/11 ceremony. pic.twitter.com/1GQnQ4VVAY

At best, Trump got 3 words of the Pledge of Allegiance today. His speech later was weak & monotone. Watch his head & upper body against the backdrop. He’s writhing w/ involuntary movements from his degenerative neurological disease- Frontotemporal dementiapic.twitter.com/xsA0t3ooQ2

My fellow LGBTQ blogger, Joe Jervis, shares his personal account of what it was like to be in New York City on that day. Well worth the reading – here.
And from the Twitterverse today – two statesmen who reflected on how the world saw today, and one who made it about himself.
As a nation, we must never forget those we lost on 9/11 and the incredible bravery of our first responders. Though the wounds of that day will never fully heal, the spirit of Americans recovered as it always does — unbowed by the efforts of those who strike against it. pic.twitter.com/Ogn7Sbvq1Q

Each 9/11, we remember the unbreakable spirit of the American people. We remember the brave first responders and the Americans who lost their lives during those horrific attacks. Even during our darkest moments, we came together to show that hope and love trump fear and division. pic.twitter.com/OuCDKzxIHq

Today we remember the lives we lost on 9/11. Even the smallest act of service is a way to honor them. And just like Jay Winuk, we can honor their memories through service. https://t.co/BdKDozK5t0 https://t.co/Jc4vg4Dqoh

One of the best ways to honor those we lost 19 years ago is by fighting for those who survived.
It’s outrageous that first and second responders are still fighting for the health care they deserve.

Via ABC News:
The New York City Comptroller’s Office has found no evidence that Donald Trump donated to 9/11 charities in the months after the attacks, the agency said.
Trump had promised weeks after the 2001 attack to donate $10,000 to the Twin Towers Fund as part of a charity effort by “The Howard Stern Show.”
“My office has reviewed the donations made in the nearly 12 months following the attacks – and we didn’t find evidence that he contributed a single cent to the victims, our first responders, and to our city through the Twin Towers Fund,” New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, a Democrat, said in a statement to ABC News today.
“In the wake of 9/11, New Yorkers came together, healed, and rebuilt. If Donald Trump claimed to donate and didn’t, if he claimed to support New Yorkers in a time of crisis and refused, then that would be just plain wrong.”
It’s possible that the Republican presidential nominee donated after the two audit periods reviewed by Stringer’s office. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
