EU May Continue To Ban Travelers From US Due To COVID-19 Failure

The Supreme Court declined to strike down a federal requirement of face masks during air travel

This probably explains why my cruise set to sail in August was canceled today. From the New York Times:

European Union countries rushing to revive their economies and reopen their borders after months of coronavirus restrictions are prepared to block Americans from entering because the United States has failed to control the scourge, according to draft lists of acceptable travelers reviewed by The New York Times.

That prospect, which would lump American visitors in with Russians and Brazilians as unwelcome, is a stinging blow to American prestige in the world and a repudiation of President Trump’s handling of the virus in the United States, which has more than 2.3 million cases and upward of 120,000 deaths, more than any other country.

European nations are currently haggling over two potential lists of acceptable visitors based on how countries are faring with the coronavirus pandemic. Both lists include China, as well as developing nations like Uganda, Cuba and Vietnam. Both also exclude the United States and other countries that were deemed too risky because of the spread of the virus.

Officials say the list will be revised every two weeks accordingly to reflect updated information and status of countries.

COVID-19: Trump Administration May Shift Blame To CDC

With Trump under fire for his handling of the outbreak, Oval Office advisers are looking to shift blame to the CDC. From Politico:

White House officials are putting a target on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, positioning the agency as a coronavirus scapegoat as cases surge in many states and the U.S. falls behind other nations that are taming the pandemic.

Trump administration aides in recent weeks have seriously discussed launching an in-depth evaluation of the agency to chart what they view as its missteps in responding to the pandemic including an early failure to deploy working test kits, according to four senior administration officials.

Part of that audit would include examining more closely the state-by-state death toll to tally only the Americans who died from Covid-19 directly rather than other factors. About 120,000 people in the U.S. have died of the coronavirus so far, according to the CDC’s official count.

Politically, Trump aides have also been looking for a person or entity outside China to blame for the coronavirus response and have grown furious with the CDC, including its public health guidance and actions on testing, making it a prime target.

Michael Henry: Are Shirtless Instagram Posts Supportive Or ‘Performative?’

Funnyman Michael Henry is enjoying some open-air social distancing in the park with Kornbread when spotted in the distance, the duo sees ‘Trevor’ (Kevin McDonald) who Henry describes as ‘your typical fit WeHo gay who thinks the world ‘revolved around clubbing, CrossFit and himself.’ Henry has an issue with Trevor’s self-centered Instagram activity which Henry thinks is socially tone-deaf and all about Trevor. Like Trevor’s recent trip to Florida where he attended ‘The Slut Zone’ party with 200 shirtless guys doing body shots and beer pong. “Well, leaving one state in quarantine to go to another state NOT in quarantine so you can party seems pretty tacky,” shades Kornbread. Beginning to rant, Henry encourages Trevor to ‘get out of your bubble,’ which goes right over Trevor’s head as he announces his next trip to Fire Island so he can get away from the “chaos and rallies.” Kornbread isn’t having it as it sounds like people protesting for their rights is ‘inconveniencing’ the WeHo hottie.

But Trevor defends himself saying he did attend a Black Lives Matter rally where he generously posed for a shirtless pic holding a protest sign. On a roll, Kornbread calls out Insta posts like that as “tacky, performative, insulting, and comes across as inauthentic.” Perhaps Trevor could use the power of his 200k Instagram followers to educate people or raise money? Flipping the script, Trevor shades Henry for his posts announcing all of his donations to different organizations calling that “tacky and performative.” Kornbread has the last word on the subject as the topic turns to RuPaul’s Drag Race which causes the whole conversation to devolve. As always, Michael Henry offers up some funny lines with a little bit of something to make you think.

Some news items you might have missed: • InstaHunks: Book a ‘Chippendales at Home’ party (above) and you never know – you might get two woofy Chipps for the price of one. • Instinct: Why are some gay Republicans unhappy about the recent Supreme Court victory for LGBTQ protections in the workplace? • Politico: A coalition of advocacy groups sued the Trump administration on Monday over its rollback of LGBTQ patient protections, arguing that last week’s Supreme Court decision extending workplace legal protections to gay and transgender employees invalidates the new rules. • LGBTQ Families: Family Source Consultants, Fertility Centers of Illinois and International Fertility League Group are hosting an expert-led discussion on family building for the LGBTQ+ community on June 25th at 5pm CDT via ZOOM. The informational event is focused on couples and individuals who are interested in building their family through third party reproduction. • Newsweek: Kentucky has slashed the number of polling locations for Tuesday’s primary elections to just 170 in-person polling stations across the Commonwealth — a major drop from the standard 3,700 sites usually made available for voters. The decrease comes as state officials heavily encourage residents to vote by mail amid the coronavirus health crisis. Many of the state’s most populous areas, like Jefferson County, home to half of the state’s Black residents, will have ONE polling location. • NY Post: A defiant shopper fought his way into an Orlando Walmart after he was denied entry for refusing to wear a face mask, a viral video shows. The incident occurred on the same day masks became mandatory in the county. In the viral video, an employee tries to block the man from entering. “You gotta wear a mask, bro!” the man behind the camera says. The older man then shoves the Walmart worker, even falling to the ground at one point.

Trump Campaign: TikTok Rally Hacking Claims Are Bogus

In a statement posted to the Trump 2020 campaign site, Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, claims news reports about TikTok and K-Pop fans claiming thousands of RSVPs to the woefully under-attended rally in Tulsa this past weekend are unfounded. In fact, Parscale denounces those reports of ticket hacking because the campaign weeds out “bogus” requests.

Leftists and online trolls doing a victory lap, thinking they somehow impacted rally attendance, don’t know what they’re talking about or how our rallies work.

Reporters who wrote gleefully about TikTok and K-Pop fans – without contacting the campaign for comment – behaved unprofessionally and were willing dupes to the charade.

Registering for a rally means you’ve RSVPed with a cell phone number and we constantly weed out bogus numbers, as we did with tens of thousands at the Tulsa rally, in calculating our possible attendee pool.

These phony ticket requests never factor into our thinking. What makes this lame attempt at hacking our events even more foolish is the fact that every rally is general admission – entry is on a first-come-first-served basis and prior registration is not required.

The fact is that a week’s worth of the fake news media warning people away from the rally because of COVID and protestors, coupled with recent images of American cities on fire, had a real impact on people bringing their families and children to the rally.

MSNBC was among outlets reporting that protesters even blocked entrances to the rally at times. For the media to now celebrate the fear that they helped create is disgusting, but typical. And it makes us wonder why we bother credentialing media for events when they don’t do their full jobs as professionals.

The Tulsa Fire Marshall estimated 6,200 showed up for the event at the BOK Center which holds just over 19,000. If I’m understanding Parscale correctly, he’s saying his team received around a million valid requests for rally tickets, and a smattering of protests kept around 993,800 people from entering the event? Trump campaign spokeswoman Mercedes Schlapp deflected when Fox News anchor Chris Wallace asked “What happened?”

Tom Petty Estate Demands Trump Stop Using “Won’t Back Down” At Rallies

(screen capture from ‘I Won’t Back Down’ music video)
The family of late rocker Tom Petty has formally asked Donald Trump’s campaign to stop using Petty’s song, “I Won’t Back Down” after the track was played at Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa on Saturday. Petty’s estate said in a cease and desist statement the Trump campaign was “in no way” authorized to use the song. According to the estate, Petty wrote the song for the common man and would not have approved of its use by Trump’s campaign. “We believe in America and we believe in democracy. Donald Trump is not representing the noble ideals of either. We would hate for fans that are marginalised by this administration to think we were complicit in this usage”.

The Petty estate isn’t the first to publicly denounce Trump’s use of their music at his rallies. Neil Young, Rihanna, Elton John, REM, The Village People, Adele, Guns N Roses, the Rolling Stones, Pharrell, Queen, Prince, Aerosmith, and Earth Wind and Fire have called BS on the Donald’s use of their music. Petty died at the age of 66 in 2017 of an accidental overdose.

Inspired By Memories Of A Lost Love, Colorado Man Comes Out At 90

Kenneth Felts just before his 90th birthday (image via Facebook)
As the saying goes, “It’s never too late.” Just ask 90-year-old Kenneth Felts who just recently came out as gay to his friends and family. Felts, who lives in Arvada, Colorado, told The Denver Post he never planned on coming out. But after deciding to write his autobiography during the COVID-19 health threat, his trip down memory lane led him to a time when he fell in love with a man named Phillip in the 1950s. Today, Felts says he realized Phillip was his one true love in life. But he made the choice to live as a heterosexual man because “coming out in the ‘50s, /60s and ‘70s was horrendous.” “There was no gay community, there really weren’t gay organizations or anything,” recalls Felts. “People who came out came out on their own, without support. And I guess I didn’t have the courage to face society at that time, so I just went ahead and buried it.” Even though he realized he was gay at the age of 12, Felts says he was always naturally introverted. That, coupled with always being a new kid at school due to his father’s career working for railroads, resulted in being targeted by school bullies. So he spent his life denying who he truly was. “I’ve been in the closet all my life — deep in the closet, behind rows and rows of clothing. I’m way back there,” he told the Post. “Opening that door at the front, I had great trepidation as to what people would say. I was very concerned because I needed people and I couldn’t stand the thought of losing them just because I decided to finally be who I really was.” Along the way, he married a woman and had a daughter named Rebecca. But, ultimately, his marriage ended in divorce. In a recent conversation with his daughter, who’s openly lesbian, he shared the memory of Phillip and the regret he felt for nearly 60 years. Even though Rebecca came out to him 20 years ago, it wasn’t until recently that he was able to overcome his own struggles with being gay. But once he experienced acceptance and support from his daughter and her wife, he went all in and sent messages and emails to friends sharing the news. Just days before his 90th birthday, Felts changed his Facebook profile photo to a new pic wearing a rainbow hoodie and received overwhelming support. “Don’t underestimate your friends and family,” he said. “You might be surprised at how they react if you were to decide to come out. Enjoy what you’ve got while you’ve got it, because you’ve only got it once.” Enthusiastically embracing his true identity, he recently announced he was taking part in a virtual 5K this past weekend to raise funds for Denver Pride. And he now participates in a virtual LGBTQ senior coffee group complete with a rainbow flag hanging on his wall in the background. “He just really seemed to take it and run with it,” says his daughter-in-law Tracie Mayes. “He seems to be making up for lost time and really is owning it, which is fantastic.” “He’s just so brave and he doesn’t even realize that he is, but it’s extraordinary,” adds Rebecca. Looking back, Felts says he has no regrets about being married to a woman because the union brought him his daughter. He has tried to track down long-lost love Phillip, but to no avail. Today, he spends his time with Rebecca, Tracie and his two grandchildren as well as gardening and continuing his writing. Hoping his story might inspire others to embrace their own authentic selves, he told the Post, “It’s never, ever too late to be yourself.”
