There were some LGBTQ moments at the 2022 Grammy Awards last night that ran the gamut from inspiring to pure emotional uplift.

Perhaps the most artful sequence of the evening was the In Memoriam tribute that began with acknowledging the recent loss of Taylor Hawkins, iconic drummer of the Foo Fighters.

That segued into a medley of songs by legendary Broadway composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim sung by Ben Platt, Leslie Odom Jr., Cynthia Erivo, and Rachel Zegler as a photographic montage honored others in the music business who left us in the past year.

Lady Gaga dedicated her performances of “Love for Sale” and “Do I Love You” to 20-time Grammy winnerTony Bennett. The duo won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Love For Sale, their second collaborative effort.

Bennett, now 95 years old, has been struggling with Alzheimer’s and did not attend the show, but he introduced Gaga via a pre-recorded clip. Gaga’s performance was accompanied by videos of the duo.

Lil Nas X (nominated for 5 Grammys) performed a medley of songs from his nominated album Montero.

During one segment, he clapped back at online trolls by filling video screens with messages from his social media haters.  His performance made clear their negativity only fuels his self-confidence.

The Brothers Osborne scored their first Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the song “Younger Me.”

In his acceptance speech, TJ Osborne became emotional sharing how the song was written in response to his coming out.

“I never thought I would be able to do music professionally because of my sexuality, and I certainly never thought I would be here on this stage accepting a Grammy after having done something I felt like was going to be life changing potentially in a very negative way.”

He also acknowledged that in addition to being able to accept the award with his brother, “I’m here with the man that I love and who loves me back. I don’t know what I did to be so lucky.”
