Anti-Masker Punches Store Owner During Protest Stunt

Screen captures of Kevin Johnston looking foolish at a grocery store in British Columbia Obnoxious Canadian anti-masker, Kevin Johnston, makes a fool of himself at a store in British Columbia. Johnston, an anti-Muslim vlogger, has made a name for himself for his racist, anti-Indigenous, and anti-Muslim activism. In this incident, he walks into the No Frills store with the intention of taking the products, throwing a $5 bill to the cashier as he exits, and ends up punching the store owner during an altercation in the parking lot. He then declares he’s making a ‘citizens arrest’ over the store owner trying to protect his business. And then the police arrive.

More about Johnston via AntiHate.ca:

Johnston is still awaiting trial for wilful promotion of hatred under Criminal Code Section 319(2). In 2017, Johnston posted a video offering a $1,000 reward for footage of Toronto Muslim students praying at school.

A five-month-long investigation resulted in charges, but in the almost four years since, he has yet to face trial.

Johnston also owes $2.5 million for statements he made about Paramount Fine Foods owner Mohamad Fakih during a protest. At the time, Ontario Superior Court Justice Jane Ferguson called Johnston’s actions toward Fakih “hate speech at its worst.”

Easter Treat? Pepsi + Peeps = Marshmallow Soda

File this under ‘Things that make you go hmm…’ From PEOPLE:

In the most unlikely collaboration since Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli, Peeps has partnered with Pepsi to create Marshmallow Cola, which comes in a three-pack of cute little 7.5-oz. cans.

Sadly, these won’t be available on grocery store shelves this year, but fans can enter the sweepstakes to win some by hashtagging “#HangingWithMyPEEPS” on their social media photos.

The cans come in blue, pink, and yellow, although there is no difference in flavor.

The peeps at PEOPLE got a first taste of the drink and do, indeed, confirm that it does taste like marshmallows. The powers that be describe the soda as “vaguely reminiscent of Lucky Charms.”

Major Biden Back At White House

Look at what a good boy Major Biden is after spotting a tennis ball on the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as President Biden chats nearby. You may have heard Major had a bit of a ruff start at the White House when he got a bit aggressive with a Secret Service agent. But after going through some training back in Delaware for a few weeks, he returned with the president and First Lady Jill Biden to the White House this week. According to the president, the 3-year-old rescue was just startled by an unfamiliar person in his new home. “You turn a corner, and there’s two people you don’t know at all,” Biden told Good Morning America. “And he moves to protect.” Biden made it clear that Major didn’t bite or penetrate the skin in the incident. An American success story, Major is the first dog to go from rescue shelter to the White House.

Just Because: You Want To See This Baby Squirrel Drink Water

I’m catching up on a lot of chores around the house and wanted to share this serene Sunday moment. Because you really want to see a man give water to a baby squirrel. The squirrel is so calm and trusting. Take a second and just breathe with this.

My Favorite Thing Today: ‘My Turn’

I recently came upon a Twitter thread from 2019 that literally made me stop and catch my breath. On March 4, 2019, one Twitter user asked the question: “What is the kindest thing a stranger has done or said to you?” Several stories were posted, but this one, from Joe in Chicago, stood out for obvious reasons. A phone call to an LGBTQ book store from a confused young man results in a tribal instinct to protect by taking ‘that call.’

Happy Birthday Thommie Walsh

I originally posted this on March 15, 2011. I think of my funny, talented, and dear friend Thommie Walsh so often I can’t tell you. Today would have been Thommie’s 71st birthday. This is a very personal post for me, and so I share this each year to celebrate his beautiful spirit. Dear Thommie, love and miss you madly.

**********************************************************

Thommie Walsh was a 2-time Tony Award winner, an original cast member of the ground-breaking A Chorus Line, and my dear wonderful friend. Thommie came into my life in so many ways. As a young actor and dancer, I was forever changed by his performance in A Chorus Line. The boy who grew up near Buffalo but “couldn’t remember the name of the town” – he’d blocked it out. His work on Broadway was the stuff wide-eyed young actors or dancers like me only dreamed about. He danced in several Broadway shows – including A Chorus Line – and then graduated to director/choreographer. As Tommy Tune’s partner, he won two Tony Awards (A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine; My One And Only). Thommie’s accomplishments and honors were many, too numerous to mention them all. But my favorite memory of Thommie was as my friend. In 2002, Donna McKechnie was asked to perform her then-developing one-woman show “Inside The Music” in Los Angeles. Thommie was her director and choreographer. The theater was a small theater on a budget, so Donna asked if Thommie could stay with me. Every day was a holiday with Thommie in the house. Having consulted on some of Donna’s earlier shows, I accompanied Thommie to rehearsals and assisted when I could. But just being around Thommie made life better and funnier and more wonderful. We became very fast friends. Thommie was immensely supportive of my work as a director and/or choreographer. Some years later, when I was choreographing a show off-Broadway, he insisted he come to see the show. Then he made a point of taking me to dinner at Joe Allens (famous Broadway restaurant) to talk about it. I’ll never forget the look in his eyes when he sat down, smiled, and simply said to me “you did good – I loved it.” His sense of humor, his directness in any situation, everything about Thommie worked for me. My wonderful, funny, talented friend. In late 2006, however, he stopped returning phone calls. I worried something was wrong. I reached out to everyone I could. At one point, on Christmas eve, I stood outside a holiday dinner in the freezing cold on the phone with a close friend of Thommie’s. The news was not good. I was distraught. I frantically asked the friend to keep me informed as his health deteriorated. News was very slow to come over the next several months. I did all I could to stay in the loop from across the country. Then, on a hot summer night – June 16, 2007 – this boy-wonder of Broadway was gone. I was riding in a car in Las Vegas when a friend called: “Did you hear about Thommie?” I held my breath in silence. I didn’t want to know. Several heartbeats went by. I’m dramatic – surely I’m wrong. Please let me be wrong. I wasn’t. My friend on the other end of the call was sad and silent. But, the news had come. Gone. But never forgotten. I remember Thommie’s birthday every year. March 15th – the Ides of March. From Julius Caesar – “Beware the Ides of March.” Beware indeed. He used his own birthday onstage in A Chorus Line as “Bobby” or “Robert Charles Joseph Henry Mills, III” as his introduction went. Just so dang funny. I would play his role in A Chorus Line several times, and I always thought of Thommie when I did. Near the end of his character’s monologue, he had a line that read, “I just wanted to see if anyone would notice me.” Boy, did the world notice Thommie. I miss Thommie often. His laugh, his humor, his talent, his friendship… all of it boundless. I’d love to regale you with some stories I lived with him, but they may not be suitable for this post. If you knew him, you know what I mean. If you don’t, then please know I hope someday you know someone like him so you will. Except there will never be another Thommie Walsh. Ever. And my eyes tear up with joy and sadness every time I know that. Thommie – how very lucky am I to have known you. I miss you. I always will. Thommie once advised me if you were going to steal, steal from the best. So, as Thommie would close his letters, from me to the fabulous Thommie Walsh: “Love you madly – always.”

Brody Knows Star Quality When He Sees It

Checking in from Brody Land… The other night, Michael put a video of the Brody-O playing with Mama Scarlett on the TV in the master bedroom via Air Play. Brody heard the sounds of dogs playing, and when he turned to look he became fascinated by the image of two dogs on the screen. He stared so intently, and at one point you’ll see him almost lean into what he sees. It was like he was watching the ‘dailies’ of his life movie. He clearly knows star quality when he sees it.

“When Straight Men Sleep With Men It’s Not A ‘Gay’ Thing, It’s A ‘Guy’ Thing?”

In a recent TikTok post, a sex therapist told viewers straight men can have sex with guys and still be completely straight.

Dr. Joe Kort, whose website says he has a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology, tells his TikTok followers “when straight men have sex with men, it’s not a gay thing, it’s a guy thing.”

Kort goes on to say that, in general, “men have more transactional sex with one another” while women don’t.

“So, when men have objectified sex where it’s just about the act, it’s just about getting off, people ‘man shame’ him,” adds Kort, who makes a point of noting he’s openly gay.

Underscoring his point, Kort says, “When straight men have sex with men, they’re still straight, it doesn’t erase heterosexuality any more than when gay men have sex with women. They’re still gay. It doesn’t erase their homosexuality.”

The TikTok post received over 1,400 comments ranging from calling for Kort’s practice and license to be revoked to others agreeing with the good doctor saying they “completely get” what he’s saying.

Now, a straight guy having some kind of sexual encounter with another male doesn’t necessarily make him “gay.” We have other words – like “bisexual” – that could apply.

Certainly there are men who have sex just to get off and file that under “friction is friction.”

And then there’s the Kinsey scale which describes a person’s sexuality on a range of 0 (being exclusively heterosexual) to 6 (meaning exclusively homosexual). Folks can be a 1 or a 5, capable of “having sex” of some kind without feeling the emotional need for committed relationships with someone of the same or opposite sex.

Kort’s official website for his psychotherapy practice shares that he has “counseled thousands of sexually confused men over the years.”

But Kort’s comment section was filled with calls of “denial” and “nonsense.”

Watch the clip and let us know what you think, readers.
