‘Fantasy Island’ Gets The Reboot Treatment On FOX

The popular 1970s/80s TV series Fantasy Island is getting the reboot treatment

The popular 1970s/80s TV series Fantasy Island is getting the reboot treatment As a youngster, my Saturday nights were usually spent at home watching TV totally safe fare like The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Now, the folks at FOX TV are giving Fantasy Island the reboot treatment. The original series aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984. The series starred Ricardo Montalbán as the mysterious host, Mr. Roarke, and Hervé Villechaize as his assistant, Tattoo. Here’s the synopsis for the reboot:

A modern semi-anthology series, FANTASY ISLAND takes place at a luxury resort, where literally any fantasy requested by guests is fulfilled, although they rarely turn out as expected. Delving into the “what if” questions — both big and small — that keep us awake at night, each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires and depart enlightened and transformed through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.

Roselyn Sanchez (“Devious Maids,” “Grand Hotel”) stars in the series as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke. Elena set aside her own ambitions, and even the love of her life, to uphold her family’s legacy. Like her predecessor, she’s sophisticated, insightful and always charming. Kiara Barnes (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) stars as Ruby Akuda, who arrives on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness and is given a new lease on life there; and John Gabriel Rodriquez (“Miranda’s Rights,” “Rosewood”) as pilot Javier, who also is the head of island transportation and a jack of all trades. You may recall a one-season revival of the series was attempted in 1998. In February 2020, a horror film adaptation was released. The new series premieres Tuesday, August 10, on FOX at 9 p.m. ET. The anthology series Fantasy Island returns to TV this August p.s. In case you were wondering – nope, there’s no reboot currently on the horizon for The Love Boat.

‘Black Widow’ Breaks Pandemic-Era Box Office Records

Whoa – the latest from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – “Black Widow” – totally crushed pandemic-era box office records. From Variety:

The superhero adventure raked in a mighty $39.5 million from 4,160 theaters on Friday, the biggest single-day gross since the onset of COVID-19.

Through the weekend, “Black Widow” is poised to generated a huge $87.8 million, which would best the benchmark previously set by “F9” and its $70 million debut.

The final opening weekend number for the Cate Shortland-directed movie could shoot even higher with positive word-of-mouth. As the first Marvel film to open in theaters since the start of the pandemic, “Black Widow” is already receiving a warm welcome from MCU fans.

From USA Today:

Black Widow explores the story of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in a prequel to the events of Avengers: Infinity War and follows the title character as she navigates the consequences of her past and her journey toward a heroic future.

The film stars Johansson alongside Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff, and David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian).

The latest single and music video from singer/choreographer Bobby Newberry is titled, “Ride”, a feel-good summer jam about taking chances and chasing dreams. “Sometimes it’s not about the destination but the ride you take to get there,” says Newberry. Adopting a metaphor of falling in love, the singer shares, “There’s nothing better than crushing on someone, getting the butterflies, feeling the magic and imagining the possibilities.” The music video is a high-energy showcase for Newberry (who also handled choreography duties) as he twirls, bumps and grinds alongside an all-male cast of dancers. “The dancing is so clean,” explains the artist. “Much of it was done on the grass and it looks so amazing on film. What you can’t see, however, and what we didn’t know, is that Echo Park is home to hundreds of geese and ducks! We were literally dancing in bird droppings.” Newberry also appears in his first intimate acting scene in the video. The love interest is played by his friend Joey Gentile, and Newberry admits he needed two shots of tequila to loosen up for it. “It was my first time doing a scene like that! Luckily, it was the last scene we filmed that day.”

His first major break in the music industry was as a choreographer for Eminem. He would go on to work with a string of the world’s top artists including Nicki Minaj, The Pussycat dolls, Missy Elliot, and Lil’ Wayne. His choreography work has been seen on TV in Dancing With The Stars, X-Factor and many other shows. In 2014, Bobby Newberry released his first single and music video, “Dirrty Up (featuring Jessie and The Toy Boys).” It was soon after followed by his debut EP, The Newberry Special. “I look back at the beginning of my career and laugh at how I thought I was seasoned when I was so not,” he explains. “As an artist, you grow, and I know so much more about everything that goes into the process of creating hit records.” “I am finally at an authentic place where my music represents who I am. My sound is pop, for sure, but it also very diverse, with many different vibes, just like me.” “I hope listeners will take a go on this ride with me,” says Newberry. “It’s a very honest track that I hope breaks down barriers. But most of alI, I hope it makes people want to dance.” Bobby Newberry’s “Ride” is available on Apple Music, Spotify, and all digital platforms. Follow him on Instagram here.

Madonna Speaks Out For Britney: ‘A Violation Of Human Rights’

Joining the #FreeBritney movement, Madonna speaks out for Britney Spears and her ongoing battle to end her conservatorship.

Last month, the Queen of Pop dropped a one hashtag remark – #diditfirst – about Lil Nas X’s scintillating BET Awards performance (complete with male-on-male lip-lock) referencing her own same-sex smooch with Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards that became its own pop culture moment.

But some folks got a bit twisted that Madge didn’t take the time to make a statement of support for Spears and her current situation.

Well, now she has.

In her Instagram Stories last night, Madonna – wearing a Britney Spears t-shirt – penned a passionate plea demanding, “Give this woman her life back – Slavery was abolished so long ago!”

“Death to the greedy patriarchy that has been doing this to women for centuries,” Madonna added. “This is a violation of human rights!”

She closed the missive telling Spears, “Britney we coming to get you out of jail!”

Madonna is just the latest in a cavalcade of stars speaking out in support of Spears. Previous celebs raising their voices for Britney include Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Cher, former boyfriend Justin Timberlake and more.

Britney’s situation made headlines last month when a judge denied her request to remove her father as the conservator of her estate, according to NBC News.

Under the current terms of the conservatorship, Spears has alleged that she has been overworked without breaks, is forced to use birth control to prevent her from having more children, and is being medicated with lithium. The 39-year-old says all of those decisions were made by her father, Jamie Spears.

Her father denies the allegations and has said he only has his daughter’s “best interests at heart.”

In related Madonna news, the pop star recently told her fans the film of her ‘Madame X’ tour will be released on Paramount+ in October.

The new single from Zola Simone 'Iridescent'

The new single from Zola Simone 'Iridescent' The latest single from Boston-based indie artist Zola Simone, “Iridescent,” captures the 360 degrees of emotion that can flood young love and the wistful, lighter-than-air feeling when vulnerability gives way to ineffable passion. The music video echoes the ebb and flow of the indie guitar track as Simone allows herself to daydream about a love that might (or might not) come to fruition. “There are some shots which we did on super 8 which are supposed to show my (the main character’s) idealistic daydreams of what their relationship could be,” says Simone. “Lots of yearning. Guess that’s part of my brand now!”

The lyrics poured out of Deven and me and the instrumentation started flying from there!” Tom Goss in his element “We shot the ‘Undercover Summer’ video in beautiful Palm Springs,” says Douglas, who has worked with major music artists including Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks, Ringo Starr, Katy Perry, and No Doubt. “We got all our closest friends to come by and join us in a pool party! Out Music: POSE star Dyllón Burnside Wants To Take You To ‘Heaven’

Dyllón Burnside

POSE star Dyllón Burnside recently dropped a new single, “Heaven,” as he returns his focus to music following the finale of his hit FX TV series. In an interview with Pink News, Burnside reflects on how the music industry has changed since he stepped away from his days in the boy band 3D. “Things are very different now,” says Burnside. “We just saw Lil Nas X kiss a man on the BET Awards, and while I think that still sends shockwaves through the Black community and through the hip-hop community, it’s so important – and it’s possible [for him to do that] now. We saw BET get behind it in a way that I don’t think they would have five years ago.” “Now, there’s more space now for me to create the music that I want to make, to talk about what I want to talk about, to put the visuals out in the world that I want to put out, without being told it’s career suicide,” he added. “I think people are starting to get it.”

The 32-year-old artist also notes that queer artists still face a sort of censoring of male on male sexuality. “I push back against that,” shares the singer. “And that’s what I’m saying with ‘Heaven’ – that sex between men is not dirty. It’s holy, it’s sacred, it’s pure. I can relate it to my relationship with God because for me, it’s a spiritual experience.” Check out Burnside’s new single, “Heaven,” along with some posts from his Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/p/CQzPJZ-L1Iz/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CQJxF1DLail/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CN_HzffrQVD/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

New York pop artist Matty Marz looks to take his listeners to a technicolor dance floor with his new single, “Pretty.” “Pretty” puts a new, updated spin on the “lonely pop song” that’ll make you dance through your tears. Inspired by the late 1950’s Doo-Wop sound by artists like Leslie Gore & The Ronettes, “Pretty” is a reimagining of that classic pop landscape with a bit more grit & glamour. Lyrically, telling the story of heartbreak & isolation, Matty sings about a world of his own creation where anything is possible. Tapping into modern production references such as Avril Lavigne, Melanie Martinez & Taylor Swift, “Pretty” transports the listener to a bubblegum pink world of wonder & extravagance. Pop-punk sensitivities meet up with dreamy vocals, gritty beats, and a pinch of sparkling 60s guitar-pop for good measure. It’s truly a bop to bounce to – even alone. Hit play below for the pretty beats. You can follow Marz on Instagram here.
