Donald Trump during a White House press briefing (public domain) We’ve all been expecting this, no? Donald Trump floated the idea of postponing the 2020 presidential election in a tweet today saying “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” No, Donald. First, folks have been mailing in ballots for decades. Whole states vote that way as well has hundreds of thousands of military service members. Per the Washington Post: “The U.S. Constitution gives the power to regulate the “time, place and manner” of general elections to the U.S. House and Senate, with Congress also empowered to alter the rules. States control the dates of primary elections. Nowhere is the president granted such power.”
With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???
Trump mailed in a ballot in 2017. He voted by mail in 2018. And voted for himself by mail in 2020. If vote-by-mail is safe enough for the president, it’s safe enough for the American people.
Sen. Ted Cruz said: “Election fraud is a serious problem we need to stop it and fight it, but no the election should not be delayed.” Sen. Marco Rubio said of Trump tweet: “I wish he hadn’t said that, but it’s not going to change: We are going to have an election in Novembe”

(photo: James Emery/Flickr– CC License)Guest post by Lawrence Pfeil, Jr. To say the hope for America, our Democracy, and the preservation of the US Constitution hang in the balance come November 3rd would be an understatement. Exacerbating the situation and everyone’s already heightened anxiety is the knowledge that foreign governments have and are interfering in our free and fair elections. Now, add the coronavirus pandemic and the integrity of Election Day is in serious jeopardy. But you can help “Power The Polls.” From their website,
“Our democracy depends on ordinary people who make sure elections run smoothly and everyone’s vote is counted. This year, we’re facing an unprecedented shortage of poll workers that could mean closed polling places and long delays. You can help make sure we have a safe, fair, efficient election for all voters.
“Power the Polls is a first-of-its-kind initiative to recruit poll workers to ensure a safe, fair election for all voters.
“This is a critical moment. America is in the midst of a nationwide poll worker shortage.
“We aim to inspire upwards of 250,000 Americans to sign up as poll workers this year.”
Click here to see how you can help Power the Polls today!“Hi, I’m Larry and I’ll Be Your Poll Worker” In 2018, I became a certified New York state poll worker when the Trumpfuckery of the day intersected with the certainty of Russian interference in our elections and awoke my sense of civic duty. I had to do more than, “Go Vote!” It’s not a glamorous gig by any stretch of the imagination. The first time I set my alarm for 3:30 AM to be at the polling site by 5 AM, my cell phone replied, “Seriously, Bitch?” It’s not rocket science. But you’d be surprised at the level of detail and redundancy required to ensure security and the level commitment poll workers bring to the work. It ain’t about the money either. It varies by state but in New York, it pays $100 for 4 hours of training (if you pass the open-book test and work an election). Election Day pay is $250 for roughly a 17 hour day (including 2 one hour breaks). It goes surprisingly fast. What they don’t tell you about are all the truly diverse and wonderful people you’ll work with. At my polling place, you name it, we probably got it! Something else they don’t tell you about are the voters. Don’t get me wrong, there are some crazy ass people compelled to tell you everything wrong with the American political system. #BlessTheirHeart But it’s the line of voters waiting AT 6 muthafing AM for the polls to open; the excited first-time voters; families who come to vote together; voters who are so clearly immigrant citizens; disabled voters who could vote by mail but show up, when so may Americans don’t bother to even vote; and the parents who are bringing their child to see them vote, and giving them an “I Voted” sticker too. #FacesLightUp Admittedly Americans would be better off if we all had mail-in ballots, but we don’t. Every state needs poll workers in November, so does the future of our democracy. What’s one day out of your life, so your state on Election Day doesn’t look like Wisconsin or Georgia did on their primaries? Or worse yet, November 4, 2020, doesn’t look like Groundhog Day, November 9, 2016? Learn more about becoming a poll worker in your state by heading over to WorkElections.com. Work Elections is a project of The Fair Elections Center, a national, nonpartisan voting rights and election reform 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, D.C. Their mission is to use litigation and advocacy to remove barriers to registration and voting, particularly those disenfranchising underrepresented and marginalized communities, and to improve election administration. Why shouldn’t voters become complacent reading about “this poll” or “that poll” leading up to the 2020 presidential election? Too many unknowns. Statistician Nate Silver: “A lot could change in the next 100 days. Things could get worse for the president. But a turnaround in the COVID situation in the fall could make the election more competitive.”

LGBTQ civil rights group, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), teamed up with Grammy® /Emmy®/Tony® award-winning actor, singer and activist Billy Porter to release this inspiring video encouraging people to vote as the nation is now j 100 days until the 2020 election. The video pairs Porter’s new cover of the iconic protest song, “For What It’s Worth,” with sound bites from HRC President Alphonso David’s speech at HRC’s 2019 National Dinner. Utilizing images of protest past and present, the video notes that both protest and voting are necessary to create change. Originally written by Stephen Stills in 1966 at the height of the civil rights movement, “For What It’s Worth” is as relevant today as when it was first released. Says Porter: “In pairing the song with Alphonso’s prophetic words about the power of seeing beyond yourself, this new video shares an important message for 2020: keep protesting, but also remember the sacrifices that have been made for our right to vote, and get yourself to the ballot box too.”
The Cook Political Report, considered one of the most accurate data/poll crunchers out there, has updated its electoral college outlook, most significantly moving Florida from Toss-up status to Leans Democratic. We’ve come to think of the Sunshine State as a 50/50 proposition since the winner of the state hasn’t carried it by more than 5 points since 2000. And in four of the last five presidential elections, the race was decided by 3 points or less. But the most recent poll, via Quinnipiac University, shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 13 points – 51% to 38%. Quinnipiac’s final 2016 Florida poll showed a dead heat; Trump came out on top by less than 2 points. In fact, the Real Clear Politics average of Florida polls puts Biden 7 points ahead of the Donald. It’s worth noting that a victory for Trump without Florida becomes extremely difficult. (image by Morning Brew on Unsplash) Donald Trump desperately wants to paint voting by mail as the gateway to super fraudulent voting. Except – a recent Washington Post analysis of data collected by three vote-by-mail states found that officials identified just 372 possible cases of double voting or voting on behalf of deceased people out of about 14.6 million votes cast by mail in the 2016 and 2018 general elections, or 0.0025 percent. Currently, 76% of Americans already have the right to vote by mail. In fact, Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and other members of the Trump administration vote by mail. So, if it’s good enough for them, why stop average Americans?
Let me be clear: If vote-by-mail is good enough for Donald Trump and his administration, then it’s good enough for all of us. pic.twitter.com/0qQW9ff0eG
Political satirist Randy Rainbow offers his satirical take on the iconic West Side Story showstopper, “Gee, Officer Krupke,” as a homage to the United States’ leading expert on infectious diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci. “Gee, Anthony Fauci!” lampoons Donald Trump’s attempts to diminish or disregard Fauci’s efforts to get the U.S. through the deadly COVID-19 pandemic with some total zingers. Appealing to Fauci about the Donald, Randy sings:
Hey, Anthony Fauci, he’s dragging us south Forget the mask just slap some masking tape on his mouth While you help protect us, he prays it will pass He only covers his own ass
Donald Trump (via Twitter) In what is surely a response to Donald Trump’s poor poll numbers in advance of November’s presidential election, the Donald appears to have done a U-turn and tweeted his support for the use of face masks to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance,” tweeted Trump. “There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!” This also follows, of course, the COVID-19 deaths of over 140,000 Americans. CDC director Robert Redfield has said the coronavirus outbreak could be “under control” within 4-8 weeks if everyone in the U.S. wore masks.

Furthermore, when Joe Biden wore an almost identical looking black mask, Trump and his Republican cronies made fun of him for being weak. Now when Trump finally catches on and follows Biden’s lead, he wants to be seen as a hero. Trump is just a loser, unoriginal racist demagogue.
After months of avoiding being seen in public with a mask, President Trump is now tweeting out a photo of himself wearing one and encouraging others to do the same. Note: He still doesn’t support a national mask mandate which other countries with less cases than the U.S. have. https://t.co/qvFEycjjlu
in late May (at the time when the death toll climbed over 100,000) when a reporter said that he’d rather wear a mask, Trump said “oh, you want to be politically correct” https://t.co/nF3PXfPEcq
L-R President Donald Trump, former Vice President Joe Biden The latest polling from Fox News will not be putting a smile on Donald Trump’s face. The survey of 1,104 registered voters shows the coronavirus is the number one issue on the minds of voters and that factors in when asked who Americans want to see in charge of handling the COVID-19 threat. While 51 percent trust former Vice President Joe Biden to handle the pandemic, only 34 percent believe Trump has the stuff to end the health threat. Biden also leads on questions of traits needed to be an effective president like compassion (Biden 56% – Trump 36%), intelligence (Biden 51% – Trump 41%), and judgement (Biden 52% – Trump 40%). Even on the issue of ‘mental soundness,’ which the Trump campaign has tried to characterize Biden as being mentally deficient, the public sees Biden as more in control of his mental faculties than Trump (47% – 43% respectively). That said, with the 2016 presidential election still fresh in our minds, voters know anything can happen. When asked if Trump will be reelected the results were a tie – 45% each side with 10% answering ‘Unsure.’ It’s worth noting, however, that tie is bad news for Trump. Back in February, the Fox News poll found 56% believed Trump would score a second term while only 43% were non-believers. I’m not a ‘national poll’ fan, but since this data comes from Fox News, I will note when asked if the election were held today, 49% said they would cast their ballot for Joe Biden while only 41% would vote Trump. Even with the 3% margin of error that is not good news for the Donald.
Donald Trump during a White House press briefing (public domain) Per Gallup’s Daily Tracking averages, Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 38 percent with his disapproval rating at 57 percent. In regard to Trump’s full term to date, his highest approval rating via Gallup has been 49 percent, and his low 35 percent. His average Gallup rating has been 40 percent approval. For historical reference, the approval rating for other presidents in June of their fourth year: • Barack Obama – 46 percent approval • George W. Bush – 49 percent approval • Bill Clinton – 55 percent approval • George H.W. Bush – 37 percent approval • Ronald Reagan – 54 percent approval • Jimmy Carter – 32 percent approval • Richard Nixon – 58 percent approval
