Trumper Who Destroyed Rainbow Crosswalk Rejects Plea Deal, Demands Trial

The man who was reportedly captured on video destroying a rainbow gay pride streetscape in Delray Beach is apparently declining a plea deal and demanding a trial by jury. I mentioned there’s video footage of the incident, right? Video footage from June 14 showed a truck purposely defacing the newly-installed streetscape. Alexander Jerich, 20, was charged with criminal mischief over $1,000 and reckless driving. The white truck, adorned with blue “all aboard the Trump train” flags, was reportedly registered to Jerich’s father https://youtu.be/7Im46XAFL2w More from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

The drivers were part of a birthday rally for former President Donald Trump, whose birthday was the following day, on June 14. The route from Delray Marketplace on Lyons Road to Atlantic Avenue downtown was pre-planned, according to the arrest report.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg said he believes Jerich was motivated by prejudice but that Florida’s legal standard prevented his office from charging Jerich with a hate crime because the victim is the city, not an individual person.

The original cost of the painting was about $16,000 and repainting will cost about $7,000, city officials have said.

Should he be found guilty Jerich would face up to six years in prison plus the costs of restoring the streetscape. https://twitter.com/BIG1059FM/status/1445826318927634433
