First Look At Tyler Hoechlin As TV’s Newest “Superman”

We get our first look of former Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin in costume as “Superman” ahead of the his debut in Season 2 of Supergirl.

From Variety:

Hoechlin will appear as Clark Kent/Kal-El in the “Supergirl” Season 2 premiere, where the Man of Steel will visit his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.

This version of the iconic costume was designed by “Supergirl” costume designer Kiersten Ronning, and shares similarities with the big screen iteration of the Superman costume worn by Henry Cavill in the films “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” once again eschewing the iconic hero’s red shorts for a more streamlined design.

Variety goes on to say that, according to producers who spoke at Comic-Con, Supergirl will be having some differences of opinion with her famous cousin. So it’s not going to be all roses and reunions with Superman on the scene.

Lynda “Wonder Woman” Carter Set To Join TV Cast of “Supergirl”

There’s a giddiness today in “comic book geekland” – and that includes me 🙂

As the television series Supergirl transfers from CBS to The CW for it’s sophomore season, we get the news that Lynda Carter, known for her iconic role as “Wonder Woman,” will be joining the series in a recurring role as President of the United States.

From TV Guide:

Earlier this year, executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti told TVGuide.com that they had approached Carter for the role earlier but scheduling made it impossible to include her in the first season.

“We’re going to do it, we’ll just do it next year,” Kreisberg said. The Season 1 finale also hinted at Carter’s turn when the president sent “her” thanks to Supergirl for saving the planet.

Carter is just the latest in a slew of casting additions to Supergirl’s sophomore effort. The show is also adding Teen Wolf alum Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. Carter adds another powerful female actress into the frame though while it still remains to be seen how large of a part Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant will play in the new season. The CW and Warner Brothers had no comment on whether Flockhart would remain a series regular transition to a recurring character when TVGuide.com reached out earlier this month.

Carter’s first appearance will be in the third episode of season 2 – Supergirl premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c on The CW.

Teen Wolf Star Tyler Hoechlin Cast As “Superman” On CW’s Supergirl

TV series Supergirl finally gets it’s Superman! And he’s grrrrrreat!

From EW:

Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin has been tapped to play the iconic role of Superman on The CW series, EW has learned.

Hoechlin will appear as Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, in the first two episodes of the new season, visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.

Trailer: SUPERGIRL – Season 2 On The CW

Pardon me while I do my “geek out” thing here.

While CBS may have passed on renewing Supergirl, I’m excited that the show will have a sophomore season on the CW this fall. Truth be told – it’s really where the show belongs.

I’ll be curious to see how the crossovers happen with The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Trailer: DC’s “Legends Of Tomorrow”

DC Comics has released the first official trailer for the upcoming spinoff from Arrow and The FlashLegends of Tomorrow.

The show will feature not only heroes (Atom, Firestorm, Canary) but villains (Captain Cold, Heatwave). And time-travel will be a big component to the ongoing storyline.

I didn’t really see the villains being a part of the “team” but love the idea of seeing more of Wentworth Miller’s “Captain Cold.” He’s brought a lot to The Flash so far, and he’s been unpredictable as a character making him very watchable. Oh, and the “easy on the eyes” part doesn’t hurt 🙂

The promo looks promising. You do have to wonder: since producer Greg Berlanti loves to offer crossover story lines, will he give us a tie-in to his new CBS series Supergirl since she’s also a DC character? Or will the two worlds exist in separate universes?

Official Trailer for Upcoming CBS Series “Supergirl”

“I didn’t travel 2,000 light years to be someone’s assistant…”

Official synopsis:

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats.

Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

This Fall on Mondays on CBS at 8pm.

Also starring Broadway’s Jeremy Jordan.

First Look At CBS’ Supergirl

As production begins on the upcoming CBS pilot for Supergirl (exec produced by Greg Berlanti), we get our first look at what the Girl Of Steel will look like in costume.

See the pic above of Melissa Benoist (GLEE, Whiplash) as “Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-el” in her costume designed by 3-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for current DC Comics TV series Arrow and The Flash.

Looking to land in the CBS schedule for 2015/2016 season, the show will follow Kara as she comes to Earth as a 24 year old and learns to become the super-hero she’s meant to be.

In addition to Benoist, the cast includes Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Brothers & Sisters), who will play Kara’s tough boss, Cat Grant; plus, Broadway favorite Laura Benanti in a major recurring role as Kara’s birth mother, “Alura.”

Of course, for the serious fans, you’ve got to love this bit of casting news: Helen Slater, who starred in the 1984 “Supergirl” feature, and Superman vet Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) have been announced for future episodes but the roles have been kept under wraps.

Looking forward to it!

CBS signs on for SUPERGIRL series

Supergirl coming to CBS soon

Greg Berlanti, producer of the CW’s ARROW and THE FLASH, has inked a deal to bring the story of Supergirl, Superman’s cousin, to the small screen.

SQUEE!!!!

You’ll recall SMALLVILLE, which chronicled a young Clark Kent growing into his destiny as Superman ran for 10 years on the CW.  That series also featured the character of “Kara” as a recurring role.

The official description reads:

“Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago.

“Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin.

“But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”
