SNL: “The Name On Everybody’s Lips Is Gonna Be… Conway”

Saturday Night Live dove deep into the psyche of President Trump adviser “Kellyanne Conway” (Kate McKinnon) last night, imagining the former pollster reveling in her rise in the political world.

Clip description:

The bit started off by showing Conway in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, where she consistently found ways to pivot away from answering questions. Eventually, the interview took a sharp turn when it became a musical number about how Conway is now almost as much of a celebrity figure as Trump.

“Donald Trump” Makes A Big Splash On SNL

Alec Baldwin recently tweeted (how very Trump-like) following Donald Trump’s first press conference in six months that he “has all the material he needs.”

And it appears he was correct.

Last night’s cold open for Saturday Night Live presented the SNL version of the presser, and I’m not sure which was more outrageous.

Just a few choice lines from Baldwin’s “Donald Trump:”

“I’d like to start by answering the question that’s on everyone’s mind. Yes, this is real life. This is really happening. On January 20, I, Donald J Trump, will become the 45th president of the United States. And then two months later, Mike Pence will become the 46th.”

“I am not talking about the pee pee. Because it didn’t happen. And it wasn’t as cool as it sounds. Next question….I do not want talk about the pee pee. I want to talk about what is really important which is jobs because I’m going to bring back a thick stream of jobs back in this country. The biggest strongest steadiest stream you’ve ever seen. This country will literally be showered with jobs. Because I’m a major wiz at jobs. And this’ll be a golden opportunity for me as president to make a big splash. I know you’re in. How bout you? Urine? Urine? Urine? Urine?”

SNL: “Hillary Clinton” Appeals To Electoral College In “Love Actually” Parody

Last night’s SNL featured a parody of the iconic scene from holiday film classic Love Actually in which Andrew Lincoln silently admits his love for Keira Knightley via a set of written poster cards.

In SNL’s version, Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) appears on the doorstep of a member of the Electoral College (Cecily Strong) with her own set of poster cards. Some very funny poster cards.

This was “actually” laugh out loud funny to me. You’ve got to watch.

Equally funny was the cold open, featuring Alec Baldwin’s “Donald Trump” and Kate McKinnon as “Kellyanne Conway,” which hit on some of the Trumpster’s sore spots.

From the New York Times:

In its final episode of 2016, “S.N.L.,” the sketch series and enduring thorn in Mr. Trump’s side, began with a cold open on Saturday that went hard at some sensitive spots for the president-elect: his relationship to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, his courtship of Melania Trump, and some of his recent gaffes and cabinet nominations. The show all but dared Mr. Trump to respond on his Twitter account, but he did not immediately do so.

A bare-chested Mr. Putin (played by the “S.N.L.” cast member Beck Bennett) soon came down the chimney with a Santa sack. He profusely flattered Mr. Trump as “the best candidate” and “the smartest candidate” — and “the Manchurian candidate,” implying Mr. Trump was an unwitting Russian puppet. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds tremendous,” Mr. Trump said.

SNL Cold Open: Alec Baldwin’s “Trump” Scraps Pesky Campaign Promises

Alec Baldwin made his return as Saturday Night Live‘s “Donald Trump,” with the President-elect more confused than ever, and concerned that he may not know how to go about “presidenting.”

The skit includes Mike Pence’s now-infamous visit to Broadway:

Trump: “I heard you went to see Hamilton. How was that?”

Pence: “It was good. I got a free lecture.”

Trump: “I heard they booed you.”

Pence: “Absolutely.”

Trump: “I love you, Mike. You’re the reason I’m never going to get impeached.”

The meat of the sketch, though, addressed Trump’s impending realization of his woeful lack of unpreparedness for the presidency.

Alec Baldwin Schools Donald Trump On How To Be President And It’s Awesome

I’m guessing Donald Trump’s orange skin is still a bit too thin for Alec Baldwin’s hysterical SNL parody of him.

After the Trumpster took to Twitter (for a change) to complain, Alec responded with some advice.

Sounds like Alec would make a great president…

SNL: “Crazy Lesbian Cat Ladies” With Kristen Wiig & Kate McKinnon

Saturday Night Live’s Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon take to the air for their annual Thanksgiving Catacopia Giveaway, which serves to find their favorite pussy cats homes for the holidays.

Along the way, the ladies share some personal info with the viewing audience:

Wiig: “This is Butternut. Butternut is a master of psychological manipulation, who specializes in gaslighting.”

McKinnon: “Does he ever. He convinced me I was the cat. It started with an innocent suggestion. Cut to two months later and I’m eating tuna and licking my own butthole.”

Wiig: “AKA the greatest week of my life.”

We also are treated to an appearance by a certain “magical” Broadway kitty. Or, not.

SNL’s Brilliant Cold Open: “Hillary” Sings “Hallelujah”

Stone-cold brilliant.

One secret to great theatre is to take your audience on a ride, and then make a left turn that changes tone but keeps you on the same ride.

In a sober (not somber) tribute to the end of the election and the passing of legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen, Saturday Night Live’s cold opening featured Kate McKinnon in her “Hillary Clinton” wig and pantsuit seated at a piano singing Cohen’s iconic “Hallelujah.”

The pairing of the song with what many in the nation are feeling (including Hillary) about the election is quietly stunning.

Catch that last set of lyrics, unaltered:

I did my best, it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I’ll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

SNL Cold Open: The Final Clinton/Trump Presidential Debate

Saturday Night Live gave us one final chance to see “Hillary Clinton” and “Donald Trump” face off in a presidential debate last night.

From the Huffington Post:

“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at Donald Trump’s relationships with the FBI, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the KKK in its final pre-election show. Alec Baldwin as the GOP nominee and Kate McKinnon as Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton appeared on the spoof “OutFront” show.

But instead of asking Baldwin as Trump about his scandals, show anchor Erin Burnett (played by Cecily Strong) just kept questioning McKinnon as Clinton about her emails. It didn’t even matter whether Baldwin as Trump planted kisses on the lips of an FBI agent, a Klansman or a fake Putin.

“Erin, you saw that, right? He kissed an FBI guy?” McKinnon’s character asked Strong at one point. “It doesn’t seem like enough of a story, let’s get back to your emails,” Strong as Burnett replied.

Baldwin and McKinnon later broke character by saying they felt “gross” about the election, before running out into the streets of New York City to hug passersby. “None of this will have mattered if you don’t vote,” Baldwin, as himself, said after they returned to the studio.

“We can’t tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday, we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in,” McKinnon added.

SNL Cold Open: Third And Final Presidential Debate

With the highly praised Tom Hanks standing in as moderator for the highly praised Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, SNL delivered their version of the third and final presidential debate featuring Kate McKinnon’s “Hillary Clinton” and Alec Baldwin’s spot-on “Donald Trump.”

Beginning the segment, Hanks announces, “I’m Chris Wallace and welcome to the third and final presidential debate. Tonight is going to be a lot like the third ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie. You don’t really want to watch, but hey, you’ve come this far.”
