SNL Cold Open Skewers “Morning Joe” Love Birds

This week, MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski announced they are indeed dating and now engaged!

Cue the Saturday Night Live sketch where Kate McKinnon as “Mika Brzezinski” and Alex Moffat as “Joe Scarborough” can’t seem to stay focused on news issues as they have other things on their minds.

To the shock of their journalist guests, they devolve into google-eyed, ovey-dovey cute talk.

Oh – and they take a call from a “new publicist” at the Trump White House named “John Miller.”

Watch below.

SNL: More From The Trump White House Crew

In case you missed last night’s Saturday Night Live, check out the cold open featuring that wacky cast of characters from the White House. Joining them this week is a silent “Jared Kushner,” played by guest host Jimmy Fallon.

And then, Melissa McCarthy re-ups as beleaguered White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, as “the Easter Bunny.”

For those who may not know, during the George W. Bush administration, Sparky Spicer handled “bunny duty” for Easter Egg Roll events. I think he was probably more successful in that role that his current assignment.

Thankfully, McCarthy brings Spicer’s wild mangling of the English language to bear in the clip to hysterical results as she recaps the week’s “misses” including topics like Spicer’s Hitler comment, United Airlines, Holocaust “Centers” (really “Concentration Clubs”) and of course, Trump’s “delicious chocolate cake” interview.

SNL Round-Up: Louis C.K. Kills, Pepsi Commercial Director Gets It Too Late, And Double The Trump

My favorite moment from last night’s SNL – host Louis C.K.’s monologue (““I’ve been doing this for 32 years now, and it’s been going great for four years”) called out chickens for being racist, wonders if giraffes are amazed by their long necks, and ponders white privilege.

Louis C.K. also starred in this music video – “Thank You, Scott” – which pays “homage” to all those folks on their phones and laptops who might never actually get out and march for anything, but are saving the world one tweet at a time.

SNL showed why you need your friends as sounding boards, just in case you get that big, big chance to conceive and direct a Pepsi commercial starring Kendall Jenner.

And we got two Alec Baldwin “Trump” appearances.

First, Deadline recaps an Alec double-header as Baldwin plays not only Trump but Bill O’Reilly:

Playing both roles in a split-screen O’Reilly Factor interview parody, Baldwin had smarm, arrogance and pomposity oozing from both sides. A week after reports presented Fox’s Papa Bear as a serial sexual harasser willing to spend millions to settle with his accusers, SNL and Baldwin gave no quarter.

“A scandal no one thought I’d have the guts to address,” Baldwin’s O’Reilly said, then launched into some trumped up Obama scandal. And when a female Fox reporter didn’t show up as scheduled (“Did she get the check?” O’Reilly says to a producer sotto voce), another female correspondent steps in – from a pre-arranged 500 foot distance.

SNL even got in shots about the Factor‘s advertising exodus, as O’Reilly’s patrons were limited to barrel-bottom spots for dog cocaine, horse Cialis – and the movie Chips.

The sketch kicked into gear, though, with Bill and Don’s back-patting adventure.

Bill: “You even went as far as saying Bill O’Reilly did nothing wrong, and that based on…?

Don: “Hunch, just a loose hunch.”

The second Trump clip shows the Donald in coal country, feeling good about his big week:

“Thank you. thank you. We all love trump, don’t we? We do. I had an amazing week, folks. I met with leaders from China, Egypt and Jordan. Gorsuch was confirmed and the media is saying nice things and no one is talking about Russia. What a difference 59 tomahawk missiles can make.

Scarlett Johansson Spoofs Ivanka Trump In Parody Perfume Commercial “Complicit”

Scarlett Johansson takes her turn at Trump parody. On SNL this past weekend, the elegant Avenger offered her take on “Ivanka Trump” pitching faux perfume commercial, “Complicit.”

The spot takes aim at the woman who “could stop all this, but won’t.”

“She’s loyal, devoted, but probably should have bounced after that whole Access Hollywood bust thing,” goes the voiceover.

And then there’s the shot of what exactly “Ivanka” sees when she looks in the mirror 🙂

Logo’s “Fire Island” Gets Spoofed With Lesbian Parody “Cherry Grove”

Saturday Night Live spoofed the upcoming gay reality show from Logo, Fire Island, with a “companion” lesbian show, Cherry Grove.

“If you think Fire Island is non-stop sex, wait till you see what passes for a bang-fest in Cherry Grove.”

It would appear the ladies of Cherry Grove party hearty with puzzles, Annie Lennox, and wine, wine, wine.

SNL Cold Open: Melissa McCarthy Kills Again As “Sean Spicer”

Melissa McCarthy killed it again last night on Saturday Night Live as White House press secretary “Sean Spicer” in the cold open.

I won’t spoil any of the jokes for you. Just watch 🙂

It’s interesting to me that President Trump, who we’ve heard was not amused by the impersonation last week by McCarthy, hasn’t chimed in via Twitter yet.

Alec Baldwin To Host SNL For Record 17th Time

Alec Baldwin heads back to hosting duties at Saturday Night Live for the 17th time – more than any other guest host.

And in this promo, Baldwin promises this week’s show will be “a big deal.”

What can we expect? Perhaps more Melissa McCarthy as White House press secretary Sean Spicer? Or – even better – the rumored Rosie O’Donnell characterization of Trump strategist Steve Bannon?

Whatever SNL serves up, one thing is for sure: I know a certain orange-skinned politician who’ll be watching…

Watch the promo below, and don’t miss SNL this weekend with Baldwin and musical guest Ed Sheeran:

SNL: Melissa McCarthy Kills As White Press Sec. Sean Spicer

Even though the SNL cast has lots of white guys who could take on lampooning White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, the satirical show reached out to an inspired choice to lampoon the beleaguered spokesman: Melissa McCarthy.

In a ‘take no prisoners’ guest appearance, McCarthy was almost unrecognizable as she took to the podium. Down to the ill-fitted suit, McCarthy gave a commanding, provocative performance.

Great satire happens when the subject’s characteristics are elevated to a new level, and McCarthy landed in that hilarious sweet spot.

“I’m here to swallow gum, and I’m here to take names.”
