Out singer/songwriter John Duff releases his fun and infectious new single, ‘I Hate L.A.’ which riffs on all the things about Los Angeles the artist loathes. Duff’s negative outlook isn’t so much about the City of Angels itself but “what Los Angeles represents ideologically.” “It’s about the product being sold – all in all, it’s about lack mentality,” adds the woofy artist. “I wanted to create something out of my negativity that sounded anthemic and proud.”

Setting out to glamorize his view of the city, Duff and his director Brad Hammer worked to include layers of symbolism in each scene. Whether its laying on Astroturf, dressed as a rhinestone cowboy, puffing on cigarettes while surrounded by healing crystals, or standing next to a $130,000 G-wagon filled to the gills with plastic bottles from fancy juice places, wearing an “I Voted” sticker, Duff wants the viewer GET the hypocrisy he sees in LA. The painted face scene is a nod to the city’s beauty influencers, an industry that ranks low in Duff’s estimation: “I think marketing ‘facial improvement’ to children is kind of gross.” Follow John Duff on Instagram here and on Facebook here. New Music: John Duff’s Poised Pooch Premieres ‘100% Baby’

DJ Baby Duff’s new single ‘100% Baby’ is fun, funny, and a total ear-worm. Out singer/songwriter John Duff constructed the track and music video as a tongue in cheek laugh about overly-deep lyrics. “Sometimes I feel like my lyrics are too smart and that nobody has an attention span to actually listen to them,” Duff explains. “So, with this one, I wanted to do something extremely stupid as stupid is always relatable.” There might also be some subtle shade here aimed at over-paid DJs who score beaucoup bucks without bringing all that to the table. “It’s not all DJ’s, but definitely some,” Duff clarifies.

Baby Duff steps up and steps out doing all of her own stunts (thanks to dog trainer Kirstin McMillan). Photographer Davide Laffe captured the poised pooch from all her best angles. And animator Sqott pulls the whole thing together with awesome video skills. “I didn’t want the video to be too sexy,” says Duff. “She’s so young.” Will Baby save Planet Earth? John Duff Skewers ‘Influencers’ With New Music Video “RICH”

The very easy-on-the-eyes John Duff (above) recently dropped his latest music video, “Rich,” which takes aim at pop culture’s obsession with so-called ‘social media influencers’ or online celebrities. Duff says the inspiration for the mid-tempo hip-hop track came to him when he was trying to come up with “the most obnoxious song I could think of about being famous for being rich.” The song’s lyrics poke fun at how seriously some social media mavens (and their followers) take themselves.

Train our waists And pad our hips F*ck your plans Let’s plump our lips Plastic products out here sellin it Hate on me – it keeps me relevant B*tch, I know you wish

The music video includes viral internet celebs like the ‘human Ken doll,’ Justin Jedlica; Chris Crocker of ’Leave Britney Alone’ infamy; and self-proclaimed ‘c*ck destroyer’ Rebecca More. Along with several swipes at plastic surgery, the video also parodies ad campaigns for ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians.’ Back in February 2018, Duff told Instinct, “We need more real bitches. I can’t stand the curated ‘influencers’ who think they are cool – it makes me so uncomfortable and it helps no one. Making an ass out of yourself – that helps people.” And in August of last year, Duff dropped his over-the-top homage to his pop music divas, “Girly.” In a recent Instagram post, Duff admitted that he’d planned on releasing “Rich” sooner, but he “wasn’t prepared.” Saying he felt “lost in other people’s perception” of him, he also shared that making “‘light-hearted’ work in such dire times” seemed selfish.

My new song and video, “Rich”, drop this Friday 9|13. The video was set to release last year, shortly after “Girly”, but I called it off. I wasn’t prepared. Mentally, emotionally, physically – I was a mess. Of course I was happy with the reception of “Girly”, but success does not equate to wellness. I got lost in a persona – lost in other people’s perception of me I was stuck. Stuck on “why”. Why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why? I felt selfish in my pursuit of art – especially making “lighthearted” work in such seemingly dire times. I’ve learned a lot in this past year, but I think the most important thing is: Whatever you bring to the table is good enough. Your only job is to show up. Not everyone is going to Mother Teresa – and that’s ok. That was her mission, maybe not yours. We’re pretty helpless creatures, but everyone is worthy of their own star in the sky. Being imperfect does not mean that you don’t deserve to take up space. You are here. Create. Be seen. You’re worth it. Any way, back to me: Enjoy the show, dolls.

Having moved through all that, his mantra now is, “Create. Be seen. You’re worth it.” Today, Duff is all about “holding a mirror to what it is that we do every day, as a culture – what we worship, how we consume, how we cope.” Check out John Duff’s ode to the infamous, “Rich,” below; and follow him on Instagram here. https://youtu.be/6Z7jNYHwtjA (lead image via Instagram)

Out Music: John Duff “Girly”

In a gay world where hyper-masculinity is often revered, singer/songwriter/director John Duff has drops his first pop creation celebrating femininity and fluidity - “Girly."

In a gay world where hyper-masculinity is often revered, singer/songwriter/director John Duff has drops his first pop creation celebrating femininity and fluidity – “Girly.”

“It’s about freedom. It’s about expression. It’s about equality. Above all, it’s f*cking fierce,” Duff said.

The music video for “Girly” pays homage to several of Duff’s top pop queens including Madonna (“Hung Up”), Mariah Carey (“Heartbeaker”), Britney Spears (“Stronger”), Beyoncé (“Crazy in Love”) and Christina Aguilera (“Come on Over”).

As the kids say, “it’s iconic.” The music video also features Drag Race superstars Bianca Del Rio, Willam and Mariah Balenciaga.

Rejecting what he calls toxic masculinity, Duff’s mission here is to promote honest and genuine self expression.

“You could have your pump on – two plates. Or get your pumps on – first date. No one cares just pump the bass, full speed ahead don’t pump the breaks.”

Duff says he has been told in the past he “would do better in the industry by playing up my masculinity.”

Duff found that approach to be insulting not only to his creativity but who he is in general. Instead, he decided to throw down his girly gauntlet.

Via press release:

“Being girly, or being a girl for that matter, is nothing to be ashamed of. The video was created from those same frustrations. While paying homage to some of my greatest female influences, I wanted to highlight the sexualization of female performers and how absurd it looks to simply replace the ingenue with a hairy man.”

And speaking of ‘throwing down,’ the music video features a hysterical bathroom brawl between Duff and Bianca Del Rio.

The adorbs Duff recently told OUT, “I wanna say it was 7am. We’d been filming since midnight the night before. We were completely on edge, falling apart. He and I started boozing. So, we were a little tipsy filming it. We had a blast. We always cackle.”

Duff also wanted to bring some fun back to pop music.

“I feel like in music, we’re missing some joy,” Duff also shared with OUT. “I don’t see pop stars presenting fun. I see dark, sexual, honestly evil energy coming out of most popular music.”

“There’s a place for funny people, and there’s a place for happy people,” the 28-year-old added. “I want people to feel happy and no pressure to be anything else.”

There’s no denying “Girly” is packed full of fun. Not only does the track have a catchy hook, but Duff is uber-adorbs.

Plus, alongside his Drag Race guest-stars, the whole cast presents as a rainbow of diversity.

Bravo!
