My Favorite Thing Today: Jeremy Ryan

You are not ready for Jeremy Ryan dancing with himself (screen capture)
What do you do when you’re a fabulous creative artist hit with 2 devastating events in the course of just a year? You create in order to keep from losing your mind. And that’s just what photographer/director/lighting & set designer Jeremy Ryan did. In the past 12 months, Ryan’s husband left him, and then the coronavirus pandemic hit and the world erupted. To cope with the bad hand that life has dealt him lately – and to keep busy during self-isolation – he rolled up his sleeves, got to work, and did what he does best: CREATE! “Art has been my saving grace,” says Ryan. “My therapy. My path to healing. My gateway to vulnerability. I’m finding new ways to express it every day.” Pouring his heart and soul into self-expression, Ryan posted these videos, the fruits of his labor, on YouTube. It’s important to point out that everything you see was created by Jeremy by himself – set design, build, lighting, videography…everything. Before I write anything else, hit the first play button. Warning: you are not ready for this.

Sharing that disco-tastic dream vision on Facebook, Ryan wrote, “Just me dancing alone in my loft having my own dance party.” But wait! There’s more! “What do you do when you’re stuck in quarantine alone for weeks in your loft that’s also your studio with tons of gear?” asks Ryan. “Well, you set up a stage, slap on some heels and program a stage light sequence and dance your heart out to Celine.” Ryan’s unabashed, unfiltered joy here is undeniably irresistible.

I have to add the videos were sent to me from a friend in Nashville, and I clicked play thinking I was previewing a new singing artist. What I got was a whooooole lot better 🙂 When not dancing in the dark with himself, Ryan’s work as a creative director includes artists like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Emily West, Jamie Lynn Spears, Chingy, Keb Mo, Kelsey Ballerini, and more. If you click over to his website, you can check out his amazing portfolio of work. You can follow Jeremy Ryan on Instagram here, and on YouTube here.

Funny: How Different Couples Cope With Quarantine Sex Lives

L-R Kevin McDonald, Michael Henry, Gina Brown, Shiah Luna
Funny wise guy Michael Henry offers this take on how differently queer couples might cope with their quarantine sex lives. Taking a walk through the gayborhood with boyfriend Steve (played by woofy Kevin McDonald), the duo encounter oh-so-in-love lesbian couple Gina Brown and Shiah Luna. The properly ‘social-distanced’ conversation quickly reveals differences in the way the couples are handling sexual tensions. While the boys are “hanging in there eating a lot of jelly beans and pizza” and catching up on their binge-watching, it seems the girls don’t watch TV choosing instead to “connect with each other one on one” and baking bread. Henry shifts directly to sex complaining that his boo won’t bonk him: “We’ve been together for five years, living together for three and all I get is one handjob a week.” “What day?” “Wednesday.” Shiah and Gina, however, announce they have sex three times a day, taking turns focusing on each other. As the ladies share their homebound bliss, Henry complains that even with an open relationship he doesn’t get to see what Steve does on Chat Roulette. “I. Need. Privacy!” says Steve. “SHOW ME THE ROULETTE!” Truly a tale of two divergent sex lives during isolation.

By the way, in case you notice the physical proximity of the women, Henry shares as an FYI:

“Gina and Shiah are actual lovers that live together, which why they’re physically close together. Kevin and I are not lovers and don’t live together which is why we kept our distance. Xoxo. Thank you for watching and I hope you’re able to have a laugh! Please stay safe and sound friends!”

Colton Haynes Is The Daddy We Always Knew He’d Be

Colton Haynes shares in a new YouTube video that he’s finally a daddy! Ok, not that kind of ‘daddy,’ and it’s complicated… It seems the time had finally come for Colton to bring a cat into his life: “Hey y’all…meet my son…Timothee Chalameow!” But our hero may have had unrealistic expectations about cuddling and playing with Timothee right off the bat. Cut to Colton trying to coax his new buddy out from under the furniture. “This is my life now, folks – trying to win the affection of a cat,” muses Colton as Timothee stares from the relative safety under the couch. “I’m so excited! I was born to be a cat dad.” “Come here,…come cuddle with me,” pleads Colton to an aloof Timothee. “I just want your love and affection.”

Colton swears to the camera that Timothee cuddles with him, but the new cat of the house doesn’t seem as drawn to the camera as his cat dad. Is it possible Colton had a dog in mind and got confused? And then, there’s the inevitable ‘incident.’ “Man, this whole fairy tale of getting a cat…Whoo! Not all it’s cracked up to be,” Colton shares. Apparently, there was a knock at the door, a deliveryman and a freak out involved, although Colton does see a silver lining of sorts. Showing off his new scar, Colton shares that Timothee did attack him, but in a ‘super chic way.’  “It looks like a sexy vampire bite, so now I have that.” I don’t want to give away the whole story, but all in all, it’s a pretty cute diversion from the outside world. Hit the play button below to see if/how/when Colton and Timothee ever find common ground.

Funny: Broadway Shows Reimagined Under Quarantine

(all images via Jeremy & Jeffrey West)
Creative brothers Jeremy and Jeffrey West tapped into their love of musical theater during the COVID-19 threat to come up with re-imagined Broadway musical titles and posters, a project they dubbed #QuarantineAMusical. “After being under quarantine and maintaining social distancing recommendations for the past three weeks, my brother Jeffrey and I have been brainstorming fun projects to keep our creative juices flowing,” Jeremy West told Playbill. “This project started when I tweeted a joke about John Guare releasing a revised version of his play titled Six Feet of Separation, making changes in light of 2020 social distancing. From there, we made a list of parody musicals re-imagined during a quarantine and dubbed it #QuarantineAMusical.” Check out some of the clever tweaks on these award-winning musicals.
