Nevada: Crowd Boos Military Mom At Mike Pence Campaign Rally

Folks here in Nevada are still in shock at the sight of seeing a military mom being booed at a Trump/Pence rally in Carson City yesterday.

This campaign team must be pulling their hair out at this point.

ABC News reports:

Mike Pence just can’t escape the controversy surrounding Donald Trump’s critical remarks about the parents of fallen soldier Capt. Humayun Khan.

Taking questions from the audience at a rally in Carson City, Nev., the Indiana governor was asked how he could “tolerate” Trump disrespecting military families.

“Time and time again Trump has disrespected our nation’s armed forces and veterans and has disrespect for Mr. Khan and his family is just an example of that,” Catherine Byrne asked, as the crowd started loudly booing. “Will there ever be a point in time when you’re able to look Trump in the eye and tell him enough is enough? You have a son in the military. How do you tolerate his disrespect?”

Pence, whose father was a combat veteran, thanked Byrne for the question and tried to quiet the room. “Folks — that’s what freedom looks like and that’s what freedom sounds like, okay? It is,” he said.

Donald Trump Says If He Loses Election, It Will Be Because Of “Rigged System”

Donald Trump, trailing in the polls and suffering over statements about fallen soldiers’ families, is laying the groundwork for a loss come November.

And get ready – it won’t be his fault. Why? Because obviously the “system is rigged.”

From the Wall Street Journal:

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday cast doubt on the legitimacy of the November general election, expanding on his long-running theme that the political process is stacked against him.

“I’m afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest,” Mr. Trump told a rally in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Trump spent months during the Republican primary contest arguing that the complex system of accruing delegates was “rigged” against him, despite his series of victories in primaries and caucuses.

Even with practically every poll showing Democrat Hillary Clinton leading, of course the only reason he would lose would be due to funny business.

Long-time adviser Roger Stone has also begun pushing the “rigged system” line.

On a recent podcast, Stone said, “If there’s voter fraud, this election will be illegitimate, the election of the winner will be illegitimate, we will have a constitutional crisis, widespread civil disobedience, and the government will no longer be the government.”

As has been documented over and over, voter fraud is so very rare it doesn’t register in studies.

Weak argument, Donald. Sad.

John McCain Denounces Donald Trump’s Attack On Khan Family

Over the weekend, Donald Trump found his comments about Khizr and Ghazala Khan being repudiated by several GOP lawmakers including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Now, former Republican presidential candidate and military veteran Sen. John McCain has issued what is the clearest condemnation of Trump’s attack on the Gold Star family.

The New York Times reports:

In a remarkable and lengthy rebuke of his party’s nominee, Senator John McCain sharply criticized Donald J. Trump’s comments about the family of a fallen Muslim Army captain, saying, “While our party has bestowed upon him the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us.”

Mr. McCain, a war hero whose service and capture in Vietnam was also once derided by Mr. Trump, had stayed largely silent over the weekend as Mr. Trump’s feud with the parents of Capt. Humayun Khan brewed, waiting until Monday morning to release a prepared statement.

“In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier’s parents,” he wrote of the parents, Khizr and Ghazala Khan. “He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States — to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers or candidates.”

Gold Star Families Pen Open Letter To Donald Trump Asking For Apology To Khan Family

Republican White House contender Donald Trump’s decision to criticize the parents of a fallen Muslim-American Army Captain is proving to be more than he bargained for.

After Khizr and Ghazala Khan appeared on the final night of the Democratic National Convention, with a stirring speech by Khizr addressing Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims in the United States, the Trumpster went on the offensive claiming the mother’s silence onstage was perhaps because of their Muslim faith, that women aren’t allowed to speak.

Now, a group of 23 Gold Star families (the title used to refer to those families who have lost a loved one during military service to the U.S., have written an open letter asking Trump to apologize to the Khans and all Gold Star families for his insensitive treatment.

From The Hill:

The group of Gold Star families on Monday wrote a letter to the billionaire condemning his treatment of the family of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed in Iraq in 2004.

“Ours is a sacrifice you will never know. Ours is a sacrifice we would never want you to know,” the group said in a letter published Monday on VoteVets.org.

“Your recent comments regarding the Khan family were repugnant, and personally offensive to us.”

“When you question a mother’s pain, by implying that her religion, not her grief, kept her from addressing an arena of people, you are attacking us,” the families said in the letter.

“When you say your job building buildings is akin to our sacrifice, you are attacking our sacrifice.”

In the letter, the families said Trump is “cheapening the sacrifice made by those we lost.”

“You are minimizing the risk our service members make for all of us,” the families added.

“This goes beyond politics. It is about a sense of decency. That kind of decency you mock as ‘political correctness.’ “

The families then urged the GOP nominee to apologize to all Gold Star families and to all Americans for his comments.

Hillary Clinton Leads Trump 7 Points In Post-Democratic Convention Bounce

According to the newly released CBS News poll taken directly after the close of the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton has gained a 7 point lead in the presidential race over Republican Donald Trump.

The poll had shown the two tied at 42% each after the prior week in the wake of the Republican Convention, but clearly the DNC was a help to the former Secretary of State.

Additionally, Clinton saw a rise in her favorability numbers jumping 5 points from 31% to 36% viewing Clinton in a favorable light. Here unfavorables dropped 6 points, from 56% to 50%.

The same poll showed 52% of registered voters see Donald Trump unfavorably, and 31% favorably.

Mother Of Fallen Muslim-American Soldier Has Plenty To Say To Trump

On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, Khizr and Ghazala Khan appeared in honor of their son, Captain Humayun Khan, a Muslim-American soldier in the U.S. Army who died in the line of duty in 2004 saving the lives of his men.

The 27-year-old was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

In responding to the Khans, GOP White House hopeful Donald Trump said, “If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. But a plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet, and it looked like she had nothing to say.”

It turns out Ghazala Khan has plenty to say.

The mother of Captain Khan penned an essay for the Washington Post in an effort to share her thoughts.

Here’s an excerpt:

Donald Trump has asked why I did not speak at the Democratic convention. He said he would like to hear from me. Here is my answer to Donald Trump: Because without saying a thing, all the world, all America, felt my pain. I am a Gold Star mother. Whoever saw me felt me in their heart.

Donald Trump said I had nothing to say. I do. My son Humayun Khan, an Army captain, died 12 years ago in Iraq. He loved America, where we moved when he was 2 years old. He had volunteered to help his country, signing up for the ROTC at the University of Virginia. This was before the attack of Sept. 11, 2001. He didn’t have to do this, but he wanted to.

[snip]

Humayun is my middle son, and the others are doing so well, but every day I feel the pain of his loss. It has been 12 years, but you know hearts of pain can never heal as long as we live. Just talking about it is hard for me all the time. Every day, whenever I pray, I have to pray for him, and I cry. The place that emptied will always be empty.

I cannot walk into a room with pictures of Humayun. For all these years, I haven’t been able to clean the closet where his things are — I had to ask my daughter-in-law to do it. Walking onto the convention stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself. What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?

Donald Trump said that maybe I wasn’t allowed to say anything. That is not true. My husband asked me if I wanted to speak, but I told him I could not. My religion teaches me that all human beings are equal in God’s eyes. Husband and wife are part of each other; you should love and respect each other so you can take care of the family.

When Donald Trump is talking about Islam, he is ignorant. If he studied the real Islam and Koran, all the ideas he gets from terrorists would change, because terrorism is a different religion.

Donald Trump said he has made a lot of sacrifices. He doesn’t know what the word sacrifice means.

Clinton Takes 15 Point Lead In National Poll

Just one day after the close of the 2016 Democratic National Convention,  RABA Research, a bipartisan polling firm, releases the results of a new poll conducted on July 29th:

Among likely voters, Clinton garners 46% support to Trump’s 31%. Libertarian Gary Johnson now captures 7% of the vote, while Jill Stein sits at 2%.

A RABA Research poll conducted the day after the Republican convention showed a tighter race, with Clinton at 39% and Trump at 34%. Johnson was at 8% in that survey, while Stein found 3% support.

“After closing the gap to single digits last week, Trump’s post-convention bounce has disappeared,” said RABA Research’s John Del Cecato, a Democratic partner with the firm. “While Trump continues to struggle to consolidate support within his own party, Clinton has a sizable lead among independents, and is even peeling off a small slice of Republican voters.”

The online poll was paid for by RABA Research and not by any candidate, committee or outside group. The survey measured 956 voters and was conducted Friday, July 29, 2016.

Trump To Father Of Fallen Muslim-American Soldier: “I’ve Made A Lot Of Sacrifices”

Responding for the first time to the father of a fallen Muslim-American soldier, Donald Trump told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that he has “sacrificed” by creating “thousands and thousands of jobs” and having “tremendous success.”

On the last night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Gold Star father Khizr Khan, his wife Ghazala by his side, recounted to the crowd how his son was killed in 2004 by a car bomb in Iraq.

Khan also chastised Trump for seeking to ban Muslims from entering the country, saying that his son, U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, would not have been able to serve under a Trump presidency.

“Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America,” Khan said, addressing Trump. “You will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”

Trump appeared to try to brush the speech aside, saying that Khan “was, you know, very emotional and probably looked like a nice guy to me.”

Pressed by Stephanopoulos to name the sacrifices he’d made for his country, Trump said: “I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

Just so I’m clear: Donald Trump sees his “tremendous success” as equitable to the service of fallen American soldiers?
