Brian Brown: Boycotts shut down 1st Amendment Rights (except when we do it)

“Did you know that Starbucks was recently reported to be perceived as the most LGBT-friendly brand in the U.S.? JC Penney, Target, Apple and Amazon round out the top five.

“If you’ve been following the national marriage battle over the past 18 months this should come as no surprise.

“Starbucks has said that gay ‘marriage’ is one of its corporate values. Target and JC Penny both support gay ‘marriage’ and the homosexual lifestyle in general, as does Apple.

“We only vote at a ballot box once a year at most. But we vote with our wallets every day. That’s why NOM maintains its Corporate Fairness Project – which includes the Dump Starbucks, Dump General Mills, and Thank Chick-fil-A initiatives – to inform you of what companies are taking active stands in the marriage battle, and where your money is best spent in defense of this sacred institution.” – Certified hate group leader Brian Brown, writing for NOM’s blog.

Hawaii: Brian Brown distorts truth again on word of special legislative session for marriage equality

Brian Brown, of the ironically named National Organization for Marriage, couldn’t help himself this week as he took to the NOM blog to spread lies and propaganda about possible marriage equality in Hawaii:

“The Governor claims that there have been no complaints or lawsuits in Hawaii — yet. But that’s because marriage has not yet been redefined! Just look around elsewhere. In Vermont, Christian inn-keepers were fined for declining to host a same-sex wedding AND ordered to cease hosting weddings altogether.

Recently, the New Mexico state Supreme Court ruled that Christian photographers must compromise their beliefs and offer their services against their will by photographing same-sex ceremonies. Never mind that same-sex couples can easily find other photographers who are happy to participate in these ceremonies.

“Instead the court said the price of citizenship is having to compromise your faith. Most recently in Washington State, the Attorney General is suing a Christian florist for declining to use their talents to arrange flowers for a same-sex ‘marriage’ ceremony, while a baker in Oregon was driven out of business for declining to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it violated their deeply held religious beliefs. This is what the future looks like in Hawaii if marriage is redefined.”

What Mr. Brown leaves out of his icky little missive is that that Hawaii already has the same public accommodation law cited in the above cases.

The issues in New Mexico and Washington state are violations of public accommodation – NOT same-sex marriage.

You all do realize that this man is paid to spew this stuff.  This is his job.  When marriage equality is the law of the land across all of the US, he will be unemployed.

NOM’s Brian Brown angry gays and lesbians get equal treatment from IRS

National Organization for Marriage president Brian Brown issued a statement denouncing the IRS’ change in policy regarding same-sex married couples this week, claiming it is yet another government attempt to force gay marriage on an “unwilling public.”

“The Treasury Department is grossly overstepping its authority,” said Brown. “This is a nation of laws. Only Congress has the authority to change the law….[the] Obama administration is intent on forcing same-sex ‘marriage’ on an unwilling public.”

A recent Gallup poll shows 54% of Americans surveyed said they believe same-sex marriages should be legally recognized and afforded all the same rights and privileges that come with opposite-sex marriage.

So, there.

Brian Brown stokes out on the full-on death of Prop 8

“The way that activist judges have dealt with Proposition 8 is a travesty of justice and undermines the rule of law and the democratic process itself. The legitimate votes of 7 million Californians, and their fair-minded, reasonable position that marriage should be defined as the union of one man and one woman, have been trampled underfoot by derelict politicians and activist judges.

“However, this is not the end of the debate. No judge or politician can redefine what God has created. NOM and our allies will work to make sure the people of California, and other states where marriage has been redefined have a voice speaking for true marriage.

“So-called same-sex ‘marriage’ is a political creation; it doesn’t exist in reality. Eventually it will fall, and we will restore natural marriage in California.” – Hate group leader Brian Brown, in his tenth case of the super-sadz in the last twelve months.

Brian – I am happy to tell you that same-sex marriage is real.  It is here.  Get used to it.

The good guys won.

This is happy dance time.

This is about people being treated equally by the law.  Period.

God bless America.

Forward.

NOM’s Brian Brown is mad about Iowa campaign finance investigation

“The National Organization for Marriage has violated no campaign finance rules in Iowa, and we decry the decision by the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board to open an investigation.

“This inquiry is a witch hunt spawned by a delusional homosexual activist who fancies himself becoming the president of the United States and who is a serial filer of frivolous allegations against us whenever we stand up for traditional marriage. The complaint is another attempt to shut down criticism of activist judges and politicians who wish to redefine marriage.

“We are concerned about the continual use of the legal system by Karger and other homosexual marriage advocates who are intent on denying us and the people of Iowa their civil rights to defend marriage as God created it.” – Hate group leader Brian Brown

I posted yesterday that NOM is now under investigation for possible campaign finance improprieties. Again.

NOM’s Brian Brown is mad about New Mexico

“The battle for marriage as God designed has come to The Land of Enchantment; and it’s your turn to stand in the breach. Every person who believes marriage to be the union of one man and one woman needs to contact Governor Martinez today, urging her and her administration to give their full support to the defense of marriage.

“As you are probably aware, two men applied for a marriage license in Santa Fe County. A brave County Clerk refused to issue the license because she knew, as you do, that New Mexico’s definition of marriage is the union of one man and one woman. As a result, these men have filed a lawsuit seeking to have New Mexico give legal recognition to same sex marriage. And yesterday the Santa Fe Commission voted to support this suit!

“We need the Governor to intervene because the State’s Attorney General is refusing to do so. In fact, the Attorney General has betrayed his oath of office by urging the Court to overturn New Mexico’s recognition of traditional marriage and legalize same-sex marriage.” – Hate group leader Brian Brown, calling on supporters to protest the evil gays in New Mexico.

New Mexico currently has no law legalizing or outlawing marriage equality.

Brian Brown is rilly, rilly angry about gays getting married again in California

Brian Brown of NOM is super-duper mad that the gays can get married again in California:

In a case that has been marked by judicial arrogance and, frankly, lawlessness since the beginning, three judges of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals late Friday lifted their stay which had been in effect since a trial judge had ruled against Proposition 8.

Same-sex couples began being ‘married’ in California when state officials illegitimately declared Proposition 8 was no longer in force and ordered county clerks to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples immediately!

This, despite the fact that the US Supreme Court decision does not take effect for three more weeks.

It’s another sad example of the utter disregard for the rule of law and judicial propriety by those who swear an oath to uphold the laws of California, and the nation.

It would appear that the desire to impose same-sex marriage by some public officials trumps integrity, fairness, propriety, and even the rule of law. All Americans should be outraged!

This is quickly followed up with a “counting on your $upport” request for more money….

Hate mail of the day: Brian Brown on the Boy Scouts of America

“Today is a sad day for the Boy Scouts of America. They have succumbed to political pressure and abandoned their historic roots in what will prove to be a failed attempt to appease gay activists and corporate donors.

“Unfortunately, what they have done is said to the world that their oath no longer means much. Their decision to admit openly gay scouts will end up sexualizing the organization. I am certain that having changed their policy on homosexuality, it’s only a matter of time before courts order them to admit homosexual scout leaders.

“Meanwhile, countless thousands of churches will very likely pull their sponsorship rather than endorse homosexuality, and the entire organization will begin to collapse.

“All of this is happening not because of a true grassroots demand of gay youth to be part of the organization but by an orchestrated political effort by gay activists who want to punish any group or organization that does not embrace homosexuality. It’s the beginning of the end for what once was one of America’s noblest organizations.” – Brian Brown, president of the hate group National Organization for Marriage, in a statement posted today on NOM’s blog.

It should be pointed out that Brian’s main job is to work AGAINST marriage equality.  But in doing so, he often says he has no problem with gays.  That he “has gay friends.”

But now, he can’t handle the Boy Scouts of America becoming more inclusive and allowing openly gay boys to join in the scouting experience?  I think his true colors are showing…

Anti-gay voices’ deafening silence on violent LGBT attacks

Pic via Memeographs.  Click pic to enlarge

After last year’s shooting at Family Research Council, many prominent voices in the LGBT community condemned the senseless attack.

However, I have been pondering the deafening silence of the Tony Perkins’ (Family Research Council) and Brian Browns’ (National Organization for Marriage) of the world regarding the multiple violent attacks on the gay community in NYC this month.

Question: does silence equal consent?

UPDATE: Interestingly, the following statement appeared on the NOM Blog this afternoon, hours after my original post above.

“We condemn in the strongest possible way the murder of a gay man in New York by a killer who apparently hurled anti-gay insults at him moments before the killing. This senseless act cannot be condoned in America or anywhere, and we urge that the perpetrator be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Our heart goes out to the family of the victim, and we hold them in our prayers. While this killing appears to have no connection to the current debate about redefining marriage, there is no room for violence toward any American — whether they support traditional marriage or not. No person should be subjected to violence because they are gay or lesbian or because they believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. There is no place for violence, period.” – Brian Brown

UPDATE 2: This statement is now on the Family Research Council website.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins released the following statement regarding the charges filed in the Mark Carson murder case in New York City: “We denounce any and all acts of unprovoked violence. No American should be the target of violence – period. We hope and trust that justice will be served in that the perpetrator of this senseless act of violence will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Perkins said.
