Bryan Brown laments – Which bigot will be next?

Bryan Brown, who has led two year boycotts of General Mills and Starbucks as it serves his own discriminatory practices, tweets about the “intolerance” of what he refers to as the gay mafia’s influence towards bigots who choose to discriminate against the LGBT community.

Message to anti-gay Brian Brown: Stop harming LGBT Russians

Today the Human Rights Campaign released a new web video highlighting the role that American extremists have played in the passage of Russia’s draconian anti-LGBT laws.

The video details how more than a dozen Americans, including NOM President Brian Brown have traveled to Russia in the last year to meet with policy makers and lobby for these laws.

The consequences of these laws have been immediate and severe. In less than a year since the signing of the propaganda ban we have seen activists arrested and beaten in the streets and a surge in asylum requests from LGBT Russians trying to leave the country.

This is what Brian Brown and the other Americans have been lobbying for and what they’d like to see implemented here in the US as well.

Anti-gay Brian Brown whines about Kentucky marriage equality ruling

Brian Brown, president of the anti-gay hate group National Organization for Marriage, issued this statement today after a federal judge ruled Kentucky’s ban on recognition of same-sex marriages from other states was unconstitutional based on the 14th Amendment:

“Today yet another federal judge has entered the competition for lawlessness on the marriage front,” said Brian Brown, NOM President.

“Today’s decision emphasizes the need for Congressional action to prevent our states’ marriage laws from spiraling further into chaos.

“Congress needs to explicitly reinforce the sovereign right of the states to make their own determinations regarding marriage, and to have those determinations respected by the federal government-which would include having those determinations protected from coerced modification through dubious readings of the 14th amendment such as we have here.”

I would suggest that, instead of “lawlessness,” perhaps the problem isn’t with the judges who rule over and over and over again on the unconstitutionality of these laws.

When so many courts cases (Prop 8; DOMA; marriage equality in Oklahoma, Kentucky, Utah) come to the same conclusion – maybe it’s not the judges.

Maybe, Brian Brown, the problem is you.

NOM president Brian Brown cries over Nevada’s decision to not defend anti-gay marriage law in court

Brian Brown, NOM president, crying as he watches his very reason for being (and earning a living) slip away.

Via press release :

“In the end, this is simply an act of cowardice, with these officials bending to the false narrative of ‘inevitability’ projected by the radicals determined to impose marriage redefinition nationwide.”

Today’s whine is due to the state of Nevada deciding, due to a recent ruling in the Ninth Circuit of Appeals, to not defend the state’s ban on marriage equality.

Forward, kids.  Forward.

Brian Brown almost belligerent when confronted with facts on marriage equality

Brian Brown, of the hate group National Organization for Marriage, becomes almost belligerent when he jumps in to defend anti-gay marriage law on UP with Steve Kornacki this weekend.

After the rest of the panel speak calmly and cite current poll numbers, note Brian’s clear shift in energy as he tries to beat back the facts he’s been presented with. Also, his use of poll tested “catch phrases” like “redefine traditional marriage” instead of same-sex marriage or gay marriage. How many buzz words can you count here?

The rest of the panel do a great job of presenting the facts as they are regarding the forward trend of marriage equality.

It was interesting to see Brian in such unfamiliar territory. I’m betting we won’t see him again on MSNBC any time soon. BUT I think this is important to watch because his tone and demeanor are very telling in how he addresses the issue.

On a side note – and I’m not being snarky here – but I can’t help but note how bloated and heavy Brian Brown seems compared to the rest of the panel.  And note his physicality – shoulders hunched up, downward tilt of his mouth…  I’m not calling him “fat” – but he appears unhealthy. When you couple his angst and belligerence with his weight and fitness, I wonder if having such negative messaging to deliver is a factor?

Just thinking out loud.

NOM’s Brian Brown says ENDA will lead to “frivolous” things like keeping your job

NOM’s Brian Brown is RILLY RILLY mad about ENDA

Writing on the National Organization for Marriage (which always strikes me as ironic since they are mainly AGAINST certain people getting married), Brian Brown writes about his deep disappointment that the US Senate passed ENDA this week trying to protect the gays from discrimination at work:

“We are very disappointed by the Senate’s passage of this bill. While protecting people against discrimination is a very important goal, this legislation is problematic because of its broad and unclear definitions. Concepts like ‘sexual orientation’ and ‘gender identity’ are too vague to be a basis for such a law which could lead to individuals facing reprisals or even criminal action simply for expressing their values in the workplace.

“We are grateful for Speaker Boehner’s leadership in the House on this issue. He understands the kinds of frivolous lawsuits and bullying through litigation that could come about as the result of such a measure.”

“Frivolous lawsuits?”  I guess, if keeping your job is considered “frivolous.”

Speaking of keeping your job, Brian – it looks like yours may be coming to an end with all these states passing marriage equality all over the place…

NOM’s Brian Brown is uber-unhappy about marriage equality in Illinois

Brian Brown of the anti-gay hate group National Organization for Marriage

Brian Brown, of the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage, is not very happy about the passage of marriage equality in Illinois:

“It’s disappointing but not surprising that the House has voted to redefine marriage. The losers will be the people of Illinois who will see that redefining marriage will unleash a torrent of harassment toward those who believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Once the law goes into effect in June of next year, we will see individuals, businesses and religious groups sued, fined, brought up on charges of discrimination and punished simply for holding true to the traditional view of marriage.

[snip]

“The legislation that has been adopted contains no meaningful protections for religious liberty. We will see a torrent of actions aimed at people of faith and religious groups. All we need to do is recall the words of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel when Chick-fil-A’s CEO expressed his support for true marriage. Emanuel pledged that businesses like that would not be allowed to operate in Chicago.”

Soon, Brian’s paycheck may be drying up as campaigning against the rights of LGBT folks is his only reason for being employed.

Rachel Maddow on the day NOM lost big in New Jersey

Rachel Maddow chats on NOM and Brian Brown, highlighting the TOTALLY TERRIBLE day they had yesterday in New Jersey as gay couples began marrying and Governor Chris Christie decided to abandon his battle against same-sex marriage.

Plus, Rachel discusses Brian Brown’s admission that he travels to Russia to campaign against LGBT rights.

Jeff Cook-McCormac, senior advisor to American Unity Fund, talks with Rachel Maddow about the challenges of advocating for gay rights in Republican politics.

Gov. Chris Christie gets unfriended by Brian Brown of NOM over marriage equality

NOM’s Brian Brown is TOTALLY sad that same-sex couples have equal rights in New Jersey regarding marriage.

From the NOM Blog:

“There’s no question that the courts of New Jersey are responsible for the imposition of same-sex marriage in that state, and we sharply criticize them for redefining our most important social institution with no regard to the wishes of voters or even elected officials,” said Brian Brown, NOM’s president. “The refusal of the New Jersey Supreme Court to order a stay of the same-sex ‘marriage’ ruling was wrong, and the latest example of an activist judiciary running amok, substituting their views for those of the people of the state.

Still, we are extremely disappointed in Governor Chris Christie for withdrawing the state’s appeal of the underlying decision, effectively throwing in the towel on marriage. The mark of a leader is to walk a principled walk no matter the difficulty of the path. Chris Christie has failed the test, abandoning both voters and the core institution of society – marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”

A superior court judge had imposed same-sex marriage in New Jersey in a ruling in September, with same-sex ‘marriages’ set to begin today. Christie’s administration appealed the decision and sought a stay to preserve the status-quo until the merits of the case is heard next year. The New Jersey Supreme Court denied the request for the stay, and today Christie dropped his appeal of the underlying decision imposing same-sex marriage.

“It’s a sad day for the voters of New Jersey,” said Brown. “An activist judiciary has once again imposed its views and ignored the rights of voters. We will continue to fight for the right of New Jersey voters to determine the definition of marriage. Regrettably, Governor Christie’s decision to surrender on marriage reveals him to be a man who lacks the courage of his supposed convictions. As far as we are concerned, it’s a disqualifying failure. His surrender on marriage effectively surrenders any chance he might have had to secure the GOP nomination for president.”

New Jersey: NOM’s Brian Brown picks another losing battle

With only 3 days left in the campaign, and Newark Mayor Cory Booker 12 points ahead in the polls, Brian Brown of the hate group National Organization for Marriage jumps into another losing battle by throwing out a last minute endorsement of Booker’s opponent, Republican Steve Lonegan:

“Steve Lonegan is a champion for marriage, life and religious liberty and would be a leader in the US Senate for New Jersey families.

“He’s a tenacious campaigner and an even more effective public official. He will get immediately to work to begin to restore the direction of the country.

“Corey Booker expected a coronation, not a close contest. He’s been busy raising money in Hollywood and among the gay lobby, who’ve lavished money on his campaign because he shares their values.

“Meanwhile, Steve Lonegan has worked hard to talk about the real issues impacting New Jersey families, and voters are responding. We hope our independent expenditure effort can help propel him over the top.”
