Sen. Bernie Sanders: “We Need Sensible Gun-Control Legislation”

Democratic White House hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders issued this statement regarding today’s mass gun violence in Oregon:

“The American people are horrified by these never-ending mass shootings. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the innocent victims.

“As a nation, we must do everything we can to put an end to this awful epidemic of senseless slaughter.

“We need a comprehensive approach. We need sensible gun-control legislation which prevents guns from being used by people who should not have them. We must greatly expand and improve our mental health capabilities so individuals and families can get the psychological help they need when they need it.

“We also have to tone down the incredibly high level of gratuitous violence which permeates our media. The shouting at each other must end. The hard work of developing good policy must begin.”

Hillary Clinton Climbs In New CNN/ORC Poll

Latest CNN/ORC poll factoring Vice-President Joe Biden

From CNN:

Clinton is backed by 42% of Democratic primary voters nationally, compared to 24% for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 22% for Biden and 1% for former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.

That’s a marked improvement over an early September CNN/ORC poll that found Clinton leading Sanders, 37% to 27%, with Biden at 20%.

And Biden’s support comes almost entirely from Clinton’s camp. Without the vice president in the race, Clinton’s numbers climb by 15 percentage points, while Sanders’ increase by only 4 points — giving Clinton a nearly 2-to-1 lead at 57% to 28%, with O’Malley moving up to 2%.

Latest CNN/ORC poll without Biden in the mix

Bernie Sanders At Liberty University: I Believe In Women’s Rights, I Believe In Gay Rights

As Sen. Bernie Sanders says in the first few minutes of his address to Liberty University students today, it’s easy to go give speeches and rallies to the folks who already agree with you.

It’s much harder, but arguably more important to address those folks who disagree with you in a civil manner to perhaps find common ground and may even learn something.

Watch even just the opening minutes here – Sanders gets a surprisingly warm welcome at the religious university as he sets out some of his differences with the audience before him.

“I believe in women’s rights. And the right of a woman to control her own body. I believe in gay rights and gay marriage.”

If you haven’t understood the Bernie Sanders campaign yet, this is a good introduction.

Bernie Sanders Is “Stunned” To Be Leading Democratic White House Candidates

New polling shows Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont now leading in the first two primary states in the upcoming presidential election.

A new Quinnipiac University poll gives Sanders a one point lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 41%-40%.

And a new NBC News/Marist poll shows Sanders ahead 41% to Clinton’s 32%

Highlights from Sen. Bernie Sanders interview with Wolf Blitzer:

“You want me to tell you the truth? Yes, I’m stunned.” Sanders said when asked if he was surprised to be leading in recent polls in Iowa and New Hampshire.

“Look, we have a message that I believed from day one was going to resonate with the American people.

“Did I think (the issues) would resonate as quickly as they have? The answer is no.”

“I am going to be doing everything that I can to see that the Democratic Party is successful in November.”

Sanders says his campaign has taken in over 400,000 donations averaging $31.20.

Poll: Bernie Sanders Leads Hillary In New Hampshire, Surges In Iowa

A new NBC News/Marist poll shows how much things have shifted for Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic nominee for president.

In New Hampshire, Sen. Bernie Sanders now leads with 41 percent of Democratic voters, Clinton at 32 percent and Vice President Joe Biden gets 16 percent. That’s a flip from July Clinton led Sanders 42% to 32%.

Over in Iowa, Clinton stays in front but with a lead that’s shrinking. She currently has 38% of likely voters, 11 points over Sanders at 27%.

Of course, the first votes are still four months away…

Bernie Sanders Edges Closer to Hillary Clinton In New Iowa Poll

To be honest, it’s waaaaay early in this election cycle but a new poll from the Des Moines Register-Bloomberg Politics shows Bernie Sanders has whittled Hillary Clinton’s once commanding lead in Iowa to only 7 points.

The new survey shows Hillary with 37% support and Sanders at 30%. Veep Joe Biden got 14% even though he’s not announced if he will enter the race yet.

When you factor out Biden, the numbers shifted to Hillary 43% and Sanders 35%.

I like both Sanders and Clinton, but I have a hard time seeing Americans electing a politician who self-identifies as “Socialist.”

Bernie Sanders Pulls Ahead Of Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire Poll

For the first time, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has pulled ahead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a poll of Democratic voters.

From CNN:

Sanders topped Clinton with 44% compared to her 37% support among likely Democratic primary voters, according to a Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll.

Sanders has been gaining momentum as he generates enthusiasm among the Democratic Party’s progressive base but until now he has still trailed Clinton in every early state poll.

Clinton continues to enjoy more than double Sanders’ support in national polls, though that polling has also shown Clinton’s vulnerabilities as voters question her honesty and trustworthiness.

Additionally, a new CNN/ORC poll shows 52% of Republicans want Donald Trump to stay in the race for the GOP nomination. Thirty-three percent want Trump to drop out, and 15% would like to see him make an independent run for president in 2016.
