“Make America Gay Again” Sign Posted Next Door To Mike Pence Vacation Home

Jason Auslander / The Aspen Times

Vice President Mike Pence surely got the message posted on the mailbox next door to the home he’s vacationing at in Aspen, Colorado.

And that message was, “Make America Gay Again.”

Neighbors of the home near Aspen where Pence and his wife, Karen, are staying posted the message Wednesday or Thursday on a stone pillar that sits at the end of driveways to both homes, Pitkin County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Buglione told the Aspen Times.

Pence, a well-known homophobe who has fought LGBT rights for years, has described himself as a “Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order.”

New Ad From OpenToAll

From OpenToAll.com:

As a nation, we decided a long time ago that when a business opens its doors to the public, it should be open to everyone, on the same terms.

But a case now before the Supreme Court wants to take us back to the days when businesses could tell people, “We don’t serve your kind here.” Masterpiece Cakeshop is arguing that it should have a constitutional right to discriminate against customers simply because of who they are.

That’s why we all need to get involved. This case paves the way to eroding the federal Civil Rights Act and dismantling state and federal laws intended to protect people of color, women, religious minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT people and others from discrimination.

In their new ad, OpenToAll reminds that the Masterpiece Bakery case as SCOTUS is about much more than a bakery. Imagine a school counselor refusing to help an LGBT student…

“Turn to Leviticus 20:13, because I actually discovered the cure for AIDS.”

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.”

“And that, my friend, is the cure for AIDS. It was right there in the Bible all along — and they’re out spending billions of dollars in research and testing. It’s curable — right there. Because if you executed the homos like God recommends, you wouldn’t have all this AIDS running rampant.

“No homos will ever be allowed in this church as long as I am pastor here. Never! Say ‘You’re crazy.’ No, you’re crazy if you think that there’s something wrong with my ‘no homo’ policy.”

Australian Lawmaker Won’t Support Marriage Equality Due To Crocodile Attacks

Bob Katter

Now that 62% of Australians have given a thumbs up to marriage equality, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has promised to make same-sex marriage the law of the land “down under” by Christmas.

But Christian fundamentalist and anti-LGBT legislator Bob Katter says there are other matters much more pressing that need attention.

“I mean, you know, people are entitled to their sexual proclivities. Let there be a thousand blossoms bloom, as far as I am concerned,” said Katter at a recent press conference.

But his tone switched up as he brought up an issue near and dear to his heart.

“But I ain’t spending any time on it because in the meantime, every three months, a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile in north Queensland.”

Katter has apparently been concerned about the inferred crocodile death epidemic (which actually doesn’t exist) for some time.

However, according to the Australian Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, there have been only 11 croc attacks since 1985.

While I understand how vicious a crocodile attack may be, I’m not sure it’s a good reason to put all other legislative issues on hold.

Watch Katter share his concerns below.

Over 30 Come Forward Regarding Anti-LGBT Family Values Lawmaker Wes Goodman’s Sexual Advances

Wes Goodman (via Twitter)

Wow. This story just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Caleb Hull, writing for the Independent Journal Review, has interviewed dozens of men who say disgraced Ohio state Rep. Wes Goodman had approached them with inappropriate sexual overtures and/or sent sexually suggestive photos via Snapchat.

Goodman resigned from office last week after he was caught having consensual sex in his Ohio state office. But it seems that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Hull points out that the approach for the vast majority of men Goodman engaged was similar across the board.

Goodman has a reputation of reaching out to those involved in politics via Facebook messenger — but things tend to quickly turn south as he has been known to flirt with men, solicit sex, and even send pictures of his genitals, according to dozens of sources. The majority of the people he targets are between the ages of 18 and 24 and have had very little interaction with him personally.

In many instances of his alleged sexual misconduct, Goodman apparently offered to be a “mentor” for those looking to get into politics. Because of the power he had, his victims say they were afraid to report instances of abuse for fear of damaging their own political careers.

[snip]

The sources informed IJR that many more photos of extremely explicit behavior — including Goodman in his underwear drinking beer, him showing his legs, and pictures of his penis — exist. Goodman always sent these on Snapchat to avoid the photos being saved, which is likely part of the reason why it has taken so long for his behavior to be exposed.

The source who received pictures of his legs and him drinking beer in his underwear told IJR that he thought about tweeting about the incident to call him out “for being a perverted weirdo,” but decided not to. He ultimately described Goodman as “a major creep.”

From one source: “Goodman asked me personal questions such as if I have a girlfriend or I was single and ‘how big I was down there.’ He also asked if I was the big or small spoon and the catcher or the pitcher. He would snap me late at night around 2 and 3 a.m. saying his wife was sleeping and he was bored and lonely.”

Goodman told one of the men he needed help “alpha to alpha” and that “it wouldn’t be gay if it’s just two alphas.”

Remember, this was all happening as Goodman maintained a public image that portrayed him as seriously homophobic.

Many of the men Goodman approached took pics of their phone screens to capture the interactions.

Here’s just some of the screen captures. There’s much more at the Independent Review Journal. I highly recommend reading the full article.

Sam Clovis Withdraws From Consideration For Agriculture Department Science Post

Donald Trump’s nominee for the Department of Agriculture’s chief scientist, Sam Clovis, has withdrawn his name from consideration after it became apparent he had no “hard” science background.

From the Washington Post:

Clovis, who possesses a bachelor’s degree in political science, an MBA degree and a doctorate in public administration, repeatedly acknowledged his lack of background in the hard sciences when responding to Stabenow.

“Please list all graduate level courses you have taken in natural science,” the second of 10 questions requested.

“None,” Clovis replied.

“Please list all membership and leadership roles you have held within any agricultural scientific, agricultural education, or agricultural economic organizations,” the third question read.

“None,” Clovis replied.

“Please describe any awards, designations, or academic recognition you have received specifically related to agricultural science,” the fourth question read.

“None,” Clovis replied.

Clovis’ actual background is as a political science professor and former talk radio host.

The WaPo notes that the position has traditionally been held by individuals with advanced degrees in science or medicine.

In the past, appointees have been chosen “from among distinguished scientists with specialized training or significant experience in agricultural research, education, and economics.”

You’ll recall during the 2016 campaign that Donald Trump boasted he would have “all the best people” in his administration. Like, talk radio hosts for science posts…?

Clovis has also become embroiled in the latest details of the Russian collusion investigation as it’s become clear he was aware of efforts by foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos to make a meeting between Team Trump and Russian agents happen. He is said to be a “cooperating witness” with the investigation.

Virulently anti-LGBT, Clovis has stated in the past that legalizing same-sex marriage would lead to the legalization of pedophilia.

Arizona Haters Lose Legal Challenge to LGBT Protections In Phoenix

A small business in Phoenix, Arizona, which designs and prints wedding invitations has lost in their attempt to override the city’s ordinance that protects LGBTs from discrimination.

It’s important to note that NO gay couple has asked Brush & Nib Studio for wedding services; nor has anyone has filed a complaint against the artists with the city.

Judge Karen Mullins rejected arguments that the ordinance interferes with free speech or free exercise of religion laws.

From the Arizona Republic:

Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski, owners of Brush & Nib Studio and self-described evangelical Christians, create invitations and other handmade artwork for weddings and events.

They filed a lawsuit against Phoenix in May 2016 challenging the part of the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Their suit alleges the city’s ordinance would compel them to create invitations or artwork for same-sex couples, which would conflict with their religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman and violate their freedoms of speech and religion.

In 2013, the Phoenix City Council added sexual orientation and gender identity to an already existing non-discrimination ordinance making it illegal to discriminate in the areas of housing, employment, and public accommodations.

JoeMyGod noted back in May 2016 when the lawsuit was filed that the company didn’t appear to have a physical address, and the artists’ social media accounts were only months old, making it credible that the company might have been created just to file the lawsuit.

The video below, titled “Getting to Know the Artists of Brush & Nib,” was uploaded to YouTube just days before the lawsuit was filed, and the comments section is closed. Additionally, the video is listed as “Unlisted.”

In the video, the two artists make a point to say their teaming up was a “God thing,” “beautiful things just come from God,” and how “special” they view their work on wedding invitations.

Now, why have a “getting to know” video be “unlisted” on YouTube?

Egypt: Lawmakers Prepare To Criminalize Homosexuality

In response to the raising of a rainbow flag at a concert last month, lawmakers in Egypt have drafted new legislation that would make being gay a crime punishable with prison time.

On September 22 in Cairo, at a concert performed by Lebanese band Mashrou’ Leila, the rainbow flag was raised.

Nearly 70 people were arrested, and more than 20 have been sentenced to time in prison ranging from six months to six years.

The new legislation would make homosexual behavior punishable by a prison sentence of one to three years. A repeat offense could mean an additional five years in prison.

Anyone identified as an LGBT ally or “supporter” could be imprisoned for one to three years.

Media coverage of events like LGBT Pride, as well as the organizers, could also suffer prison time.

And anyone who displays a “symbol of homosexuality” would be risking one to three years in prison as well.

This is dangerous stuff. I just had friends visiting Egypt on a vacation.

I can definitely tell you where you won’t be finding me anytime soon.
