After Two Losses In Court, Anti-Gay Colorado Baker Goes For Triple Crown

Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop

Not content to be a 2-time loser in court, Jack Phillips, a Colorado baker located in Lakewood, has decided to take his bigotry to the state Supreme Court after refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple which is in direct violation of the state’s public accommodation laws.

On Aug. 13, the Colorado Court of Appeals upheld two previous rulings and found that Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips cannot cite his religious beliefs or free-speech rights in refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

In 2012, Charlie Craig and David Mullins were turned away by Phillips while trying to buy a custom wedding cake. Mullins and Craig planned to marry in Massachusetts and wanted a cake to celebrate in Colorado.

Phillips told the couple that he would not make them a wedding cake because of his religious beliefs.

The petition, filed by Phillips’ attorneys on Friday, asks the state’s high court to decide whether Phillips’ religious beliefs about marriage are being violated. They’re also asking the justices to consider whether forcing Phillips to create an “artistic expression” that is against his religious beliefs violates his free speech rights.

“From Masterpiece’s inception, he has integrated his faith and work,” Phillips’ attorneys wrote in the filing. “Phillips also honors God through his creative work by declining to use his artistic talents to design and create cakes that violate his religious beliefs.”

Colorado law bans discrimination in a public place on grounds of sexual orientation.

To reiterate – same-sex marriage is not the problem here. A man refusing to serve people based on their sexual orientation, which is against the law in Colorado, is the issue.

NY Mets’ Daniel Murphy Gets Closer Scrutiny On Anti-Gay “Lifestyle” Comments

With the New York Mets now 2-0 over the Cubs in the NLCS, second baseman Daniel Murphy is getting attention for his performance on the baseball diamond, but also a closer scrutiny, which is why his comments about gays last March to the NJ Advance Media is getting a second look and making headlines.

This was a quote via Murphy when asked about then-newly appointed openly gay Billy Bean as Ambassador for Inclusion by MLB:

“I disagree with his lifestyle. I do disagree with the fact that Billy is a homosexual. That doesn’t mean I can’t still invest in him and get to know him. I don’t think the fact that someone is a homosexual should completely shut the door on investing in them in a relational aspect. Getting to know him. That, I would say, you can still accept them but I do disagree with the lifestyle, 100 percent…

“Maybe, as a Christian, that we haven’t been as articulate enough in describing what our actual stance is on homosexuality. We love the people. We disagree the lifestyle. That’s the way I would describe it for me. It’s the same way that there are aspects of my life that I’m trying to surrender to Christ in my own life. There’s a great deal of many things, like my pride. I just think that as a believer trying to articulate it in a way that says just because I disagree with the lifestyle doesn’t mean I’m just never going to speak to Billy Bean every time he walks through the door. That’s not love. That’s not love at all.”

At the time of the statement, a Mets spokesman said Murphy would not talk on religion in public any further and stick to baseball.

Two Male Philly Gay Bashers Agree To Plea Deal With No Jail Time

Two of the three young haters who were charged with the September 11, 2014, attack on two gay men in Philadelphia (leaving one man’s jaw shattered and wired shut for months) have copped to a plea deal with prosecutors.

From the Advocate:

Initial reports of the brutal attack suggested that as many as 15 people confronted the couple on the street in Philadelphia’s City Center neighborhood the night of September 11. In a December arraignment, Hesse testified that after a short exchange of words, Harrigan asked if he was “a dirty faggot,” which led to Hesse being shoved and shoving back, reported TV station WCAU.

“I approached him and said, ‘Maybe I am a dirty fucking faggot,’” Hesse said. “He pushed me, I pushed him.” The confrontation then escalated, and witnesses called 911.

The three were charged on September 24, 2014, with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The two male attackers were also charged with conspiracy.

Kevin Harrigan and Philip Williams have now pled guilty to one count each of conspiracy and aggravated assault. They will serve no time in jail, instead agreeing to probation and community service.

According to WXPN’s Robert Drake, Harrigan will have to serve three years probation, and Williams five years. In addition, each will have to perform 200 hours each community service at an LGBT facility and are barred from the Central City area until their probation periods are over.

The third alleged attacker, and most famous due to her bratty rhetoric on Twitter, Kathryn Knott, rejected the plea deal and has chosen to fight in court.

She will head back to court on October 30th for a hearing where the judge will set a trial date.

You can read my past posts about the attack and the attackers here.

I’ll update as more info comes available.

UK Man Trolls Anti-Gay Trolls At Chester Pride Festival

In a video posted to Vimeo Sunday, Dean Paton from Chester-based ‘heritage and education’ company Big Heritage decided on his own plan to handle anti-gay trolls who held signs protesting the Pride Festival in Chester, England.

He calmly took his place next to the haters holding sign with hate speech, then unrolled his own sign which read: “Homophobes are statistically more likely to be gay.”

Bravo, Dean!

Kim Davis’ Law Firm, Anti-Gay Liberty Counsel, Called Out By Associated Press

Mat Staver, of the virulently anti-gay Liberty Counsel

Finally, a mainstream media source – the Associated Press, no less – has exposed the Liberty Counsel for the anti-gay, hate mongering organization that it is.

Kim Davis’ lawyer stood onstage in a Washington D.C. hotel and pointed to a photo on the screen. It showed 100,000 people packed into a Peruvian soccer stadium, Mat Staver told the crowd, all there to pray for the Kentucky clerk battling against gay marriage.

The crowd erupted.

It wasn’t true. Staver’s firm, the Liberty Counsel, which revealed Davis’ secret meeting with Pope Francis, has been accused by advocacy groups of peddling misrepresentations in the past. Yet it has become the main source of details about the controversial pope meeting.

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists the Liberty Counsel as an anti-gay hate groups for spreading false information. “A group that regularly portrays gay people as perverse, diseased pedophiles putting Western civilization at risk are way, way over the line,” said Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the center.

The Liberty Counsel has connected homosexuality to higher rates of promiscuity and incest, Potok said, despite scientific evidence to the contrary.

The firm opposes laws banning hate crimes and supports discredited conversion therapies that purport to turn homosexuals into heterosexuals.

Staver once declared that the Boy Scouts would become a “playground for pedophiles” once it allowed gay troop leaders.

Staver said the meeting with the pope validates his arguments about Davis’ rights to conscientious objection. He rejects even the suggestion he might wake up one day and discover himself on the wrong side of history.

Last week, he showed the crowd at the Values Voter Summit the photo of the imaginary Peruvian prayer rally and declared its significance in the battle against Christian oppression. “That, my friends, is happening around the world,” he said. “When one person stands it has an impact and Kim Davis will continue to stand for her lord and savior Jesus Christ.”

Quite enjoyable reading, I must say.

Anti-Gay Nutjob Theodore Shoebat Calls For An End Of “Homo Tyranny”

Theodore Shoebat spreading the loving word of Jesus

Freely admitting that he believes in Christian world domination while opposing democracy, Shoebat calls for a “global Inquisition” to eradicate homosexuals via the death penalty.

It’s no surprise, in light of extreme views like this, that even anti-gay Matt Barber’s Barbwire website has begun to scrub the site of Shoebat’s contributions.

Shoebat also says back in the dark ages we didn’t have “fag” problems.

I have to strenuously disagree. Have you SEEN what they had to wear back then?

Take a listen just to remind yourself how many folks in the world view the LGBT community.

Hate Pastor James Manning To Protesters – “You Faggots! Lesbos!”

Today in “Christian Love” we get another performance from Hate Pastor James Manning of Harlem.

This time, Manning’s virulently anti-gay rant is practically a melt-down of hate.

As protesters of his vitriolic attacks on the LGBT community chanted “Stop the hate now,” the good pastor stood on a chair and screamed at the crowd calling them “faggots,” “lesbos,” “dung eaters,” and “perverts.”

“There is no salvation for butt-lickers and butt-bangers like you! You perverted faggots! You smell like rectums! I am the greatest preacher and defender of the word of God! Hallelujah!”

Is that really the word of God? Hmm…

Kim Davis Sidesteps Questions Whether Other Religions Deserve The Same Exemptions She Demands

Kim “I love all people” Davis

Professional martyr and occasional County Clerk Kim Davis sat down with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to talk about her ongoing refusal to follow the law when it comes to issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

You’ll note that when directly asked if other non-Christian faiths should receive similar exemptions to the one she’s demanding, she sidesteps the question: “You have millions of Christians who object to this whole same-sex marriage issue. Are their rights invalid? Are their rights not worth anything?”

She also mentions that there’s “no way” she would issue a marriage license to her own child if they were to come out as gay or lesbian.

However, Davis went on to say that she “loves all people. I have love in my heart for everyone.”

I’ll just leave that right there.

Matt Barber: Gays Literally Want To Kill Christians For Not Being Pagan

Virulently anti-gay Matt Barber, speaking on Liberty Counsel’s “Faith and Freedom” radio show abut the ongoing Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis’ refusal to follow the law regarding same-sex marriage, declares that gays won’t be happy being equal. Barber says that gays literally will kill everyone who doesn’t embrace homosexuality.

At one point he compares the current campaign for LGBT rights to the Inquisition. Seriously.

From Right Wing Watch:

“This whole saga,” he said, “is reminiscent of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 … The homosexual men of Sodom and Gomorrah, they surrounded the house and they said, ‘Send them out’ and they pounded on the doors and there is this spirit of anger and lust. This white-hot hatred that we see levied toward Kim Davis and her family and Liberty Counsel right now … the attitude is we demand that you affirm our position, that you call evil good and good evil, that you go against your conscience and what the Bible teaches about sex and sexuality and the reality of marriage as being between a male and female. You must leave all that and come on board with our pagan sexuality or we will literally kill you.”

There’s so much in there that is so false it’s hard to even address. Needless to say, it’s a common tactic of the extreme right to flip the truth on it’s head to try and make their position sympathetic.

The truth is no one would care about Kim Davis if she treated gays and lesbians like everyone else. No one wants to deal with her other than get their marriage licenses, which is the law of the land today.

But Barber continues twisting the truth to the small number of folks who really just want to embrace the hate.

Kim Davis: I’m Not A Homophobe – I Have Gay Friends

Graphic via Memeographs

Rogue Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis gave an exclusive interview with Good Morning America where she denounced the “hate” that she feels has been unfairly directed at her for refusing to follow the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

“What people say about me does not define who I am. That’s everybody’s opinion and that’s everybody’s right,” Davis told ABC News.

Davis said she’s been “called Hitler, I’ve been called [a] hypocrite, I’ve been called a homophobe.”

“I’ve been called things and names that I didn’t even say when I was in the world. Those names don’t hurt me,” Davis said. “What probably hurt me the worst is when someone tells me that my God does not love me or that my God is not happy with me, that I am a hypocrite of a Christian.”

Wow, Kim. That must really hurt your feelings. Kind of like how LGBT kids feel when they’re told by “Christians” they will burn in hell.

Davis also shares that she has gay friends. I have some advice for those gay friends – Get better friends.
