Politico: Hillary Clinton Likely To Announce Candidacy For Prez In April 2015

Politico reports that Hillary Clinton is definitely running, and will probably announce her candidacy in early April.

A few take-aways from the Politico piece:

• The timing of the announcement would be such that she would have almost a full quarter for fund-raising – so her first report in July would be huge.

• The Clintons got a “heads-up” from former President George H. W. Bush about Jeb Bush’s announcement to “actively explore” the GOP nod a few days before it happened due to President Clinton’s relationship with Bush I after their humanitarian work together.

• The so-called “swagger” of inevitability from the 2008 campaign will be gone.

• Bill Clinton apparently feels Jeb Bush is a serious concern; Chris Christie is a “side-show” that will fade.

• Names being floated for possible running mates: Sen. Cory Booker, Sen. Tim Paine, Sen. Michael Bennet, Labor Secretary Tom Perez, and HUD Secretary Julian Castro.

Sarah Palin: “I Am Seriously Interested” In 2016 Presidential Run

Sarah Palin, the former half-term governor of Alaska, doubled down on recent comments hinting she’s “seriously” considering a run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016.

“You can absolutely say that I am seriously interested,” Palin said, when asked to clarify her thinking about a possible presidential bid.

Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice-presidential nominee, said she stood by comments she made Thursday in Las Vegas to ABC News, where she first expressed enthusiasm about potentially competing for the Republican presidential nomination.

“I am. As I said yesterday, I’m really interested in the opportunity to serve at some point,” Palin said Friday, as former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, a potential 2016 rival, looked on.

Palin’s comments, made in an interview in the lobby of the Marriott hotel here, came hours before she is scheduled to address a group of conservative activists at the Iowa Freedom Summit, a gathering hosted by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an immigration hard-liner.

Palin said, “It is a significant step, of course, for anyone to publicly announce that they’re interested. Who wouldn’t be interested? Who wouldn’t be interested when they have been blessed with opportunities to speak about what is important to this country and for this country?”

Check out Sarah’s incredibly incoherent, rambling word salad of a speech yesterday at Steve King’s jamboree. She’s just the gift that keeps giving.

Run, Sarah, run!

Jeb Bush Announces Exploratory Committee For 2016 Presidential Run

Well, it certainly looks like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will be running for president in 2016.

Today, he posted the following note on his personal Facebook page:

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Like many of you, our family was blessed with the opportunity to gather together over the recent Thanksgiving holiday.

Columba and I are so proud of the wonderful adults our children have become, and we loved spending time with our three precious grandchildren.

We shared good food and watched a whole lot of football.

We also talked about the future of our nation. As a result of these conversations and thoughtful consideration of the kind of strong leadership I think America needs, I have decided to actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States.

In January, I also plan to establish a Leadership PAC that will help me facilitate conversations with citizens across America to discuss the most critical challenges facing our exceptional nation. The PAC’s purpose will be to support leaders, ideas and policies that will expand opportunity and prosperity for all Americans.

In the coming months, I hope to visit with many of you and have a conversation about restoring the promise of America.

Best wishes to you and your families for a happy holiday season. I’ll be in touch soon.

Onward,

Jeb Bush

Poll: New Jersey Would Not Pick Gov. Christie In 2016 Presidential Run

A recent Quinnipiac poll shows New Jersey voters, who would theoretically know their governor best, would not pick Gov. Chris Christie over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a presidential matchup.

When asked to choose between Christie and Clinton, Hillary came out on top 50-39 percent with the traditionally blue state voters.

Other Republicans fare just as poorly or worse.

• Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush 53-31%
• Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul 55-31%
• 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney 52-35%

Frothy Mix Will Run For GOP Nod In 2016

According to the Washington Post, former US Senator Rick Santorum will be in the hunt for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. However, Santorum says his second run for president will be retooled:

“America loves an underdog. We’re definitely the underdog in this race,” he said in an interview Tuesday. Santorum added that being underestimated — again — “has given me a lot of latitude.”

His iconic sweater vests will likely make a return appearance. But Santorum 2.0 will be a very different presidential campaign than the one that came from almost nowhere to win the Iowa caucuses in an overtime decision, he vows.

“I get the game,” Santorum said.

Vice-President Joe Biden Says He’ll Decide On 2016 Candidacy By Mid-2015

At an event hosted by Politico, Vice-president Joe Biden says he will make an announcement about a possible run for prez by late Spring/Early Summer 2015.

From The Hill:

“I honest to God haven’t made up my mind,” Biden said at a ‘Women Rule’ event hosted by Politico. “I’m confident I’d be in a position to be competitive.”

“The one thing that moves me — I think that I have the ability to bring the sides together,” he added.

Every major poll shows Biden trailing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination by a huge margin.

A recent CNN poll showed Clinton at 65% among Democrats in the poll; Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) trailed at 10%, and Biden third at 9%.

Ohio Sen. Rob Portman Will Not Run For President In 2016

Republican US Senator Rob Portman of Ohio has announced he will not seek the GOP nomination for president in 2016.

Earlier this year, Portman told ABC News that he was “taking a look” at a possible run, but said today that with the upcoming Republican majority in the Senate, he feels he can make a difference by staying in the Senate.

Portman was considered a strong moderate contender for the 2016 nomination. However, his support for same-sex marriage could have proven difficult for him in primaries where many GOP candidates feel they have to swing far right to get votes.
