Survey: Only 17% Approve Of Pete Hegseth Nomination

Donald Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary, former Fox News personality Pete Hegseth, has practically no support among Americans according to a new Associate Press/NORC Center poll. From Mediaite:

According to the poll, only 17% of those surveyed said that they approved of Hegseth’s nomination, while more than double, 36%, disapprove.

In general, just 27% of the public is confident in Trump’s “ability to appoint well-qualified individuals to his cabinet and other high-level positions,” while 55% say they are not confident. The poll of 1,251 American adults carries a margin of error of 3.7%

The results are particularly bad news for Hegseth, whose chances of being confirmed have been impaired by a series of scandals, including a sexual assault allegation and rumors about a drinking problem.

Tulsi Gabbard, nominated for Director of National Intelligence, only garnered 21% approval, and Secretary of Health and Human Services hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. only pulled  30% approval. Hegseth has been all over the place this week regarding past remarks denouncing gays in the military. Yesterday, he finally flip-flopped when asked if he supports gay in the military he gave a curt “yes.”

Hegseth backtracks on criticism of gays in the military

Perhaps he’s evolved on the issue seeing as how his criticism of gays in the military was made way back in….checks notes….2024 www.politico.com/live-updates… [image or embed] — C-Bo the Eggman (@cbotheeggman.bsky.social) December 12, 2024 at 3:15 PM
