Nikki Haley Trolled For Throwing Shade At @PopcornFactory

Former ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley
Former ambassador to the United Nations, former governor of South Carolina and rumored 2024 presidential hopeful Nikki Haley tried to drag a popcorn company on Twitter for being late on deliveries. It didn’t go well. Especially in light of Donald Trump’s toadie Louis DeJoy now in charge of the United States Postal Service whose new policies are slowing mail delivery down across the nation.

Snapshot: First Flight Since Pandemic Began

My hubby Michael had to travel on a business trip yesterday from Nevada to California. My understanding has been that most major airlines require a face mask to board planes. But when Michael got settled, the traveler on the other end of his row was clearly not wearing a mask. And then there’s the personal wine bottle she somehow got on-board…? I hear that was confiscated later.  I reached out to the airline (who I won’t shame here) on Twitter via DM and they responded immediately. At some point in the flight, the woman did don a mask (kinda sorta) but wasn’t wearing it correctly. Just a snapshot of what’s happening out there in the world these days.

Out Mayor Under Fire After Matching With College Students On Grindr

Mayor Alex Morse of Holyoke, Massachusetts (image via Facebook)
Alex Morse, an openly gay mayor in Massachusetts, has issued a statement acknowledging he’s had “consensual adult relationships, including some with college students” and “apologized to anyone I have made feel uncomfortable.” Morse became the youngest mayor in the history of Holyoke when he was elected to office in 2011 at the age of 22. Currently in his fourth term, the 31-year-old is running to unseat longtime Democratic Congressman Richard Neal (D-Springfield) in the state’s primary on September 1. He reportedly has the support of progressive groups like the Working Families Party, Justice Democrats, and former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang. Morse’s statement comes in response to three Democratic college groups who emailed him on Thursday saying he was “no longer welcome” at their events. “It is no longer appropriate to encourage interaction between College Democrats and Alex Morse,” read the email which was obtained by the Massachusetts Daily Collegian. The groups allege Morse had inappropriate relationships with college students while not only being an elected official but also lecturing at UMass Amherst. The mayor taught a political science course at UMass between 2014 and fall 2019. According to the email, he matched with students on dating apps like Grindr and Tinder. It’s not known if any of those ‘matches’ were students who Morse taught. The groups also say he attended College Democratic events to build his social media following. “We have heard countless stories of Morse adding students to his ‘Close Friends Story’ and Direct Messaging members of College Democrats on Instagram in a way that makes these students feel pressured to respond due to his status,” the letter read. “Even if these scenarios are mutually consensual, the pattern of Morse using his platform and taking advantage of his position of power for romantic or sexual gain, specifically toward young students, is unacceptable.” Morse responded saying he wanted “to sincerely apologize to anyone I have made feel uncomfortable” and offered to meet with “any person or group” to discuss their concerns. “I want to be clear that every relationship I’ve had has been consensual,” he added. “However, I also recognize that I have to be cognizant of my position of power.” “Growing up gay and closeted in a small city like Holyoke, I struggled with accepting my sexuality, and in high school, I had a hard time finding other openly gay students,” Morse said. “As I’ve become more comfortable with myself and my sexuality, like any young, single, openly gay man, I have had consensual adult relationships, including some with college students.” He continued, “Navigating life as both a young gay man and an elected official can be difficult, but that doesn’t excuse poor judgment.” CNN reports UMass Amherst issued a statement on Saturday calling the allegations against Morse “serious and deeply concerning.” “The school also said it planned to launch ‘an immediate review of the matter to determine whether the alleged actions during his time as a university lecturer were in violation of university policy or federal Title IX law.'” Holyoke City Councilor Linda Vacon has called for Morse to resign as mayor in light of the allegations, but other councilors on the 13-member board said they need to learn more before drawing. Here’s my question, though: If none of the mayor’s ‘matches’ were with any of his own students, and if everything was of legal age and consensual – what is the issue? A late-20s gay guy meeting up with early 20s gay guys? (source: Massachusetts Daily Collegian, CNN)

Olivia Newton-John Sends Special Message On 40th Anniversary Of XANADU

Olivia Newton-John on the 40th anniversary of XANADU
International superstar Olivia Newton-John celebrates the 40th anniversary of XANADU, the movie musical that spawned mega-hit songs “Xanadu,” “Magic,” and “Suddenly.” Over the years, Olivia has acknowledged that the experience of shooting the film with the legendary Gene Kelly represents a huge moment in her career despite the problematic screenplay. Olivia sends her best to co-star Michael Beck, songwriters John Farrar and Jeff Lynne, choreographer Kenny Ortega and the fabulous dancers in the film including Broadway icon Sandahl Bergman (who I adore) and Teri Beckerman. Check out the first few seconds where the voice shows NO age whatsoever. What a great star, and such great songs.

Biden Jokes About Running Mate Choice During Bike Ride

Joe Biden out riding his bike near Rehoboth Beach (screen capture)
During a bike ride near Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, former Vice President Joe Biden was asked by Fox News correspondent Pete Doocy if a decision had been made on a running mate. “Yeah, I have,” said Biden as he whizzed by the reporter. “Who is it?” inquired Doocy and Biden shot back a light-hearted, “You.” Silly story but I have to say – can you IMAGINE Donald Trump riding a bike???

US Edition Of ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ Announced For 2021

Producers have announced plans to bring the long-running (and often over-the-top) “Eurovision Song Contest,” Europe’s popular music competition, to America. Since 1956, some of the best-selling music artists in the world have competed in past editions, including ABBA, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias and Olivia Newton-John. From Variety:

Hoping to siphon off some of the magic of the beloved six-decade-old show, which draws over 200 million viewers to its grand finale, the premise for “The American Song Contest” will remain similar to the European version. Professional musical artists — solo singers, duos or groups up to six members — from each of the 50 states and across every musical genre will perform all original songs on the live televised event.

The format, as it is currently conceived, will position the artists head-to-head against other states’ representatives in a series of televised qualifier competitions, leading to semi-finals and the ultimate primetime Grand Finale March Madness-style.

Propagate Content will create The American Song Contest Academy, a group consisting of music professionals based in the U.S. that represent all genres and backgrounds, from which juries of artists and music industry notables who, along with the regional audiences, will select top talent from all 50 states to compete.

“The American Song Contest” is set to debut during the 2021 holiday season.

But will they bring the awesome camp factor? We’ll have to see 🙂 Check out a short trailer for the upcoming competition as well as some of the most famous past performances at ESC.
