Pope Francis has formally approved blessings for same-sex couples. In the announcement, the Vatican says that people seeking God’s love and mercy shouldn’t be subject to “an exhaustive moral analysis” to receive it. In today’s declaration, Francis makes clear that blessings for same-sex couples will be available as long as the ritual doesn’t resemble the sacrament of marriage, which remains reserved for only heterosexual relationships.
