Daily Dance: Melissa Gilbert “If They Could See Me Now”

"Little House on the Prairie" star Melissa Gilbert struts her way through the Broadway classic "If They Could See Me Now"

I’m not laughing at child star Melissa Gilbert but laughing with her as I enjoy this clip from 1978 where the Little House on the Prairie star kick-ball-changes her way through the Sweet Charity hit “If They Could See Me Now.”

I just love 1970s variety show dancing. It takes me back.

At this very moment in time, I was learning to dance myself with most of the vocabulary you see here.

According to the YouTube page, Melissa Gilbert herself has seen the video and her response was: “OMG! Adolescence at its worst!”

Ah, good times 🙂

EDM Star Avicii Dead At 28

EDM artist, DJ and producer Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) has passed away at the age of 28.

According to Variety, his body was found in Muscat, Oman.

His rep issued this statement:

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”’

Citing health reasons related to acute pancreatitis, Avicii retired from live performing in 2016.

In an announcement to his fans at the time, he made it clear he intended to continue his creativity in the studio.

“WE ALL REACH A POINT IN OUR LIVES AND CAREERS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT MATTERS THE MOST TO US.
For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.

Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.

Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do.”

The two-time Grammy nominee received a nod for a 2018 Billboard Music Award on Tuesday.

Donald Trump Will Not Attend Funeral Of Former First Lady Barbara Bush

The White House has announced Donald Trump will not attend the funeral of former First Lady Barbara Bush citing a desire to “avoid disruptions” in regard to the president’s security detail and “out of respect for the Bush Family and friends.”

First Lady Melania Trump will attend the memorial service for Barbara Bush this Saturday representing the First Family.

Reps for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have indicated they will attend the memorial service as well as former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Barbara Bush, wife of George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 92.

You’ll recall when Obama didn’t attend the funeral of former First Lady Nancy Reagan, right-wing pundits couldn’t wait to criticize.

Music Video: Ariana Grande Defies Gravity In “No Tears Left To Cry”

Ariana Grande’s new music video for “No Tears Left To Cry” is an eye-popping wonder of computer generated gorgeousness.

Directed by Grammy Award®-winning director Dave Meyers, the trippy video allows Grande to defy gravity as she floats, falls and pretty much stays off-balance through a series of CGI futuristic landscapes.

It’s easy to wonder if the metaphor was intended to represent Grande’s state of mind following the Manchester Arena terror attack during her concert last May, which killed 23 people and wounded approximately 500.

The new single represents Grande’s first since 2016’s Dangerous Woman.

Cher Honors Adam Rippon For TIME’s “100 Most Influential People Of 2018”

Cher pens a glowing essay in honor of out Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon for TIME Magazine's "100 Most Influential People of 2018"

The one and only Cher, Grammy-winning singer and an Oscar-winning actor, wrote a tribute to Olympic figure skater and now-LGBTQ icon Adam Rippon who is being honored by TIME Magazine as one of 2018’s “100 Most Influential People.”

From a perspective that only Cher could write from, she shares her view on our man Adam:

All figure skaters are beautiful, but Adam Rippon is different. He isn’t just a beautiful skater. He has humility, grace and an incredible sense of humor.

You could see in the leather-harness suit he wore to the Academy Awards that he isn’t afraid to take chances. It wasn’t about the suit, really. It was about the fact that he dares to be different in a world where being different always comes with a cost. I thought it was fabulous, of course.

Adam is a skater who happens to be gay, and that represents something wonderful to young people. When I was young, I had no role models—everyone looked like Sandra Dee and Doris Day. There was nobody who made me think, Oh, I could be like them. They represent me. Adam shows people that if you put blood, sweat and tears into what you’re doing, you can achieve something that’s special. You can be special. And I think that’s very brave.

Obama For TIME: “Parkland Students Are Shaking Us Out Of Our Complacency”

Barack Obama pens a moving essay in honor of out the Parkland students who are leading the charge for gun reform in America for TIME Magazine's "100 Most Influential People of 2018"

Barack Obama penned a moving tribute about the Parkland students for TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people of 2018.

“Our history is defined by the youthful push to make America more just, more compassionate, more equal under the law.”

From the TIME essay:

Seared by memories of seeing their friends murdered at a place they believed to be safe, these young leaders don’t intimidate easily. They see the NRA and its allies—whether mealymouthed politicians or mendacious commentators peddling conspiracy theories—as mere shills for those who make money selling weapons of war to whoever can pay. They’re as comfortable speaking truth to power as they are dismissive of platitudes and punditry. And they live to mobilize their peers.

Already, they’ve had some success persuading statehouses and some of the biggest gun retailers to change. Now it gets harder. A Republican Congress remains unmoved. NRA scare tactics still sway much of the country. Progress will be slow and frustrating.

But by bearing witness to carnage, by asking tough questions and demanding real answers, the Parkland students are shaking us out of our complacency. The NRA’s favored candidates are starting to fear they might lose. Law-abiding gun owners are starting to speak out. As these young leaders make common cause with African Americans and Latinos—the disproportionate victims of gun violence—and reach voting age, the possibilities of meaningful change will steadily grow.

Our history is defined by the youthful push to make America more just, more compassionate, more equal under the law. This generation—of Parkland, of Dreamers, of Black Lives Matter—embraces that duty. If they make their elders uncomfortable, that’s how it should be. Our kids now show us what we’ve told them America is all about, even if we haven’t always believed it ourselves: that our future isn’t written for us, but by us.
