Four NYC deputy mayors are resigning after the Justice Department moved to dismiss Mayor Eric Adams’s corruption case in apparent exchange for his help with Donald Trump’s deportation agenda. From The New York Times:
The four officials — Maria Torres-Springer, the first deputy mayor, and Meera Joshi, Anne Williams-Isom and Chauncey Parker, all also deputy mayors — oversee much of New York City government, and their departure in the coming days is poised to blow a devastating hole in the already wounded administration of Mayor Eric Adams.
Increasingly, the deputy mayors felt that they were not merely working for an indicted mayor, but for someone whose personal interests were outweighing the interests of New Yorkers, according to another person briefed on the matter. They found this untenable, the person said.
Mr. Adams, a Democrat, is forcefully resisting growing calls to resign. Gov. Kathy Hochul is also under increasing pressure to remove him from office.
Adams says he’s not going anywhere.
Four top New York City officials are expected to resign in the coming days, after the outgoing U.S. attorney for Manhattan accused the mayor of trading cooperation with President Trump’s mass deportation agenda for a dismissal of his criminal indictment, people with knowledge of their plans said. Last week, Danielle Sassoon – the interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York – resigned rather than dismiss the charges against Adams. In her resignation she noted that the office had been planning a new indictment against Adams. Hagan Scotten, the lead prosecutor on the case, also resigned saying only a “fool” or a “coward” would follow through on the dismissal of the case.
Danielle R. Sassoon, Manhattan’s acting U.S. attorney, resigned on Thursday rather than obey a Justice Department order that she drop a corruption case against New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams, that she had championed, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.

But wait – there’s more!
Sassoon and Scotten were then followed by five other Justice Department lawyers in Washington who also stepped down rather than sign the court papers that would dismiss the Adams case. Now, you have to admit all these folks are putting their money (and their jobs) where their mouths are. People don’t quit high-level career jobs like these over some ‘politically motivated attack’ on Adams. They’ve given up their livelihood and I’d be willing to bet it’s because the evidence against Adams must be pretty damning.
The resignation total rises to six as three more lawyers in the public integrity unit have resigned.
