Some news items I think worth your time: • What To Watch: Andrew McCarthy reunites with Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and more for the new doc-film BRATS (on Hulu), which explores how being labeled “The Brat Pack” in the 1980s impacted their acting careers. McCarthy seems to have held onto a bit more bitterness about the nickname than his contemporaries, but I definitely enjoyed the look-back. https://youtu.be/MxVNQkRM5Qw?si=ILYPb7bixLTznEOt • LGBTQ Nation: House Republicans poisoned the annual ‘must-pass’ military spending bill by adding anti-LGBTQ amendments. • Kenneth-in-the-212: Check out the what’s what in LGBTQ publications this week, including the latest from DA MAN Magazine, featuring Ario Bayu in a Louis Vuitton layout.
• CBS News: A federal judge appointed by Donald Trump has temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s new Title IX rule expanding protections for LGBTQ students in Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, and Idaho. • NBC News: Newly crowned Miss Maryland USA, a Cambodian American transgender woman and a military wife, clapped back against transphobic hate comments she received after winning her title.

• New York Times: The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a ban on bump stocks, which enable semiautomatic rifles to fire at speeds rivaling those of machine guns, erasing one of the government’s rare firearm regulations to result from a mass shooting. • CNN: House Republicans voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for not handing over audio interviews with President Biden. Garland refused based on executive privilege and the fact that full transcripts were released. The Dept. of Justice says it won’t act on the House contempt referral.
