From CNN:
District Judge Jesse Furman said Avenatti’s conduct was “so brazen and egregious” adding, he “took advantage of a vulnerable victim given her unorthodox career and somewhat unorthodox beliefs.”
Avenatti was convicted in February of one count of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. He faced as much as 20 years on the wire fraud charge and a mandatory two-year sentence for aggravated identity theft.
Part of Thursday’s sentence will be served alongside the Nike sentence, but Furman said Avenatti will have to serve an additional two and a half years after he completes the Nike sentence.
Avenatti was also ordered to pay $148,750 to Daniels and $297,900 to the US.
I remember when he first appeared on the media landscape, it looked like Avenatti might be the guy to bring Trump down for his sexual mis-doings. And then it turned out he was a pretty bad guy himself.
In addition to the above, Michael Avenatti is already serving a 30-month prison sentence for attempting to blackmail Nike for over $20 million by threatening to go public with damaging information unless they paid him.
But wait…there’s more!
Next month, he goes on trial in California facing charges that he allegedly embezzled $10 million in settlement funds from at least five clients as well as tax fraud and bankruptcy fraud.
Michael Avenatti has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The California lawyer is currently incarcerated on a 2 1/2-year sentence for trying to extort Nike.
The sentence handed down in Manhattan federal court means he will spend an additional 2 1/2 years in prison when stacked upon his Nike conviction. https://t.co/CeC6vaBW5E
