MacKenzie Scott Donates $45 Million To The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project, recognized for its mental health and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth, announced today that it received a massive donation of $45 million from billionaire and author MacKenzie Scott.

The organization says the donation is “transformational.”

This contribution marks the largest in the organization’s history and comes as a significant relief following several years of management challenges, workforce reductions, and a loss of crucial federal funding over the summer.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it and needed a moment to process. I actually gasped,” remarked Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, when they learned of Scott’s donation.

Scott, whose wealth primarily stems from her former spouse, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, contributed over $7 billion to various nonprofits in 2025. She had previously donated $6 million to The Trevor Project in 2020.

The crucial funds couldn’t have come at a more critical time.

In July, the Trump administration ceased specific support for gay, transgender, and gender nonconforming youth who reached out to the 988 National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

The Trevor Project was one of the organizations providing assistance through that line and reported a loss of $25 million in funding, according to the nonprofit.

Prior to the Team Trump pulling the plug on LGBTQ support for the 988 lifeline, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reported more than 1.5 million contacts were routed through the service between Sept. 2022 and July 2025.
