83rd Golden Globe Awards + Surprise Unemployment Data + More

Some news items as this quiet Sunday comes to a close:

What To Watch: I’ll definitely be watching the 83rd Golden Globe Awards tonight. One of the less formal award shows, there’s always unexpected celebrity moments to laugh at/with. Airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST.

The Advocate: Gen. Stanley McChrystal presided over a historic farewell for five transgender troops forced into retirement.

Forbes: New analysis of government data shows the Trump administration’s immigration policies reducing the number of foreign-born workers did not help U.S.-born workers in 2025. The unemployment rate for U.S.-born workers increased over the past 12 months from 3.7% to 4.1%.

Boy Culture: Reminder you should definitely check out Matt Rettenmund’s “Boy Culture” now that he’s moved over to Substack. So much good stuff. #thumbsup

CBS Colorado: Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado, who was called a “scumbag” by Trump over convicted former county clerk Tina Peters’s nine-year sentence for breaking the law to try to validate Trump’s false 2020 election-fraud claim, is now reportedly considering granting her clemency.

HuffPost: Just for frame of reference,  ICE shooting victim Renee Good’s final words were, “It’s fine dude. I’m not mad at you.” Seconds later ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot her in the head and said, “Fuckin’ bitch” according to his own cellphone video.

JoeMyGod: Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem did herself no favors in her appearance on CNN today trying to justify calling Good a “domestic terrorist.” Over and over, she offers up word salad after word salad without really saying anything. Joe has much of the transcript and more clips at the link.
