The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the U.S. economy added just 50,000 jobs in December (less than expected).
That means, all in all, a less-than-impressive 584,000 jobs were added in 2025, marking the worst year for job gains outside of a recession since 2003.
While Trump campaigned on “bringing back manufacturing,” the new report shows the U.S. economy lost 8,000 jobs in December – the eighth straight month of losses in that sector.
The unemployment rate fell a fraction from 4.5% to 4.4%.
