George Santos Campaign Refunding More Money Than Taking In

The campaign for truth-challenged Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.)  reported it gave back more money in refunds than it received from donors last quarter and by a LOT. https://twitter.com/politico/status/1713624632652079239 From Politico:

Santos’ campaign refunded more than $35,000 to donors between July and September while taking in only $1,704 in new donations, according to his latest campaign finance report.

His campaign also spent more than $42,000 over the period, $20,000 of which was classified as legal expenses. That left him with less than $23,000 in his campaign account.

The new campaign finance report, filed on Sunday, also disclosed more than $120,000 owed to vendors – dating back to 2022. The expenses were marked for election night catering and a “mail fundraising” program. There’s nothing wrong with having such expenses, except they are required to be disclosed on the report for that quarter and each filing thereafter. The report apparently has a statement from Santos’s treasurer saying they only became “aware of prior debt in the current period.” Of course, these campaign finance woes follow last week’s news that six fellow House Republicans filed a resolution last week to expel Santos. Plus, the 10 new charges added to the previous 13 federal charges against Santos, including identity theft, money laundering, and lying to the FEC. https://twitter.com/AndrewSolender/status/1713684984731402494
