Denmark Claps Back At VP Vance’s Greenland Remarks

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen clapped back at the United States for its aggressive tone hours after Vice President JD Vance visited an American military base in Greenland. Rasmussen addressed Americans directly in a two-minute video posted Friday night calling for an end to the hostile messaging from the Trump administration. “Many accusations and many allegations have been made. And of course, we are open to criticism,” Rasmussen said. “But let me be completely honest: We do not appreciate the tone in which it is being delivered.” “This is not how you speak to your close allies,” he continued. “And I still consider Denmark and the United States to be close allies.” Rasmussen acknowledged the U.S. argument that it “needs a greater military presence in Greenland,” adding that a 1951 defense agreement allows for more U.S. military participation on the island. He added that Denmark is open to having conversations to that end. At one point, the U.S. had more than a dozen military installations in Greenland, but today the only outpost left is Pituffik Space Base.
