Former Bachelor Colton Underwood quietly announced the December 3 premiere of his unscripted Netflix series “Coming Out Colton” on his Instagram. Underwood shared in the caption that the image was “captured moments after I came out to my dad, which was one of the most meaningful parts of my coming out journey.” “I’m looking forward to sharing more of my story with you including the lessons I’ve been learning along the way,” added Underwood.

When Underwood came out in April 2021, there was a significant backlash as the announcement of the reality series happened almost in tandem. It appeared the Bachelor star was attempting to monetize his coming out. Folks also thought the idea of a white, cisgender guy getting a Netflix series when so many different people never had a similar opportunity was hypocritical and rather “white privileged.” In May, he told Variety that his coming out was prompted, in part, because he was photographed at a Los Angeles “men’s spa” and was being blackmailed over the pics.

I’m glad that Colton Underwood finally feels comfortable coming out, but I’m not about to forget he harassed and stalked his ex-girlfriend and she had to take out a restraining order against him.
Him being gay doesn’t negate his history of abusing women.

The unscripted series, according to Variety, will focus on Underwood learning to navigate living his life as an out gay man. The series will follow him as he comes out to loved ones and will reportedly address the controversy surrounding his coming out.
Olympic medalist Gus Kenworthy will serve as a ‘gay guide’ of sorts as Underwood explores being a part of the LGBTQ community.
