Donald Trump took to his social media platform this morning to rant about federal Judge James E Boasberg, who had ordered a pause in the deportation of 200+ migrants to El Salvador this past weekend. Trump labeled the Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic” in his wild rant and called for his impeachment.
Hours later, Chief Justice John Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court took umbrage with Trump’s remarks. The chief justice said in a statement, “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.” The remark was similar to an exchange back in 2018 when Trump called out an “Obama judge” and the chief justice had to set him straight that there are no “Obama” or “Trump” judges.

Meanwhile, Justice Department lawyers were back in court today refusing to answer a number of questions from Judge Boasberg regarding the deportations that were carried out. From NBC News:
“The Government maintains that there is no justification to order the provision of additional information, and that doing so would be inappropriate,” the Justice Department said in a court filing responding to U.S. District Judge James Boasberg’s ruling that it provide him with more information.
The filing, however, did include a declaration from an official with Immigration and Customs Enforcement answering some of the questions the judge had posed at a hearing Monday, at which he expressed frustration that the government had appeared to snub his order halting the deportations and its refusal to answer questions about its actions.
The judge had summarized the government’s position as “we don’t care, we’ll do what we want.”
