BBC One’s Holiday Ad Features Sweet Mistletoe Kiss

What is it about the UK and holiday advertisements? The country just seems to get it right so often.

Check out BBC One’s 2016 Christmas spot. A virtual cornucopia of very human holiday moments, including a sweet kiss between two men under the mistletoe.

The Twitterverse approves, too 🙂

Coming This Wednesday: “Carpool Karaoke With Madonna!”

This will kill.

I’m betting she’ll Vogue – but will she “kiss and tell?”

I’m just saying. Make sure you watch The Late Late Show with James Corden Wednesday night.

Texas GOP Presidential Elector: “Why I Will Not Cast My Electoral Vote for Donald Trump”

Powerful personal essay by Christopher Suprun for the New York Times.

In the op-ed, Suprun declares that as a Texas Republican firefighter who is a designated presidential elector for the Electoral College, he cannot vote for Donald Trump”

I am a Republican presidential elector, one of the 538 people asked to choose officially the president of the United States. Since the election, people have asked me to change my vote based on policy disagreements with Donald J. Trump. In some cases, they cite the popular vote difference. I do not think president-elects should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead of the popular vote. However, now I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office.

Fifteen years ago, as a firefighter, I was part of the response to the Sept. 11 attacks against our nation. That attack and this year’s election may seem unrelated, but for me the relationship becomes clearer every day.

George W. Bush is an imperfect man, but he led us through the tragic days following the attacks. His leadership showed that America was a great nation. That was also the last time I remember the nation united. I watch Mr. Trump fail to unite America and drive a wedge between us.

Mr. Trump goes out of his way to attack the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for bias. He tweets day and night, but waited two days to offer sympathy to the Ohio State community after an attack there. He does not encourage civil discourse, but chooses to stoke fear and create outrage.

[snip]

Fifteen years ago, I swore an oath to defend my country and Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. On Dec. 19, I will do it again.

Trump Supporter’s Racist Rant Inspires $32K Gift For Store Manager

Trump supporter Jennifer Boyle

Here’s some holiday cheer to help you believe in the human race.

You’ll recall last week I wrote about a hideous woman at a Michael’s crafts store in Chicago – a self-identified “Trump supporter” – who went on an insane 45 minute rant on store employees and customers over having to pay $1 for shopping bag.

The woman, identified as Jennifer Boyle, verbally assaulted the manager of the store using labels like “animal” and a “lying piece of shit” the day before Thanksgiving. Ms. Boyle apparently has a history of verbally abusing employees of retail stores she frequents.

The manager, who handled the episode with seriously professional patience, has been identified only as Holli.

A customer who witnessed the verbal abuse, Jessie Grady, videoed the attack and uploaded it online.

In the aftermath of the horrible behavior by Boyle, Grady set up a GoFundMe campaign to try and honor Holli’s grace under fire, writing, “I am starting this gofundme because I’d like to do something to try to make it up to the employee who was the main target of this racist attack.”

Initially, Grady set a goal of $400 to do something nice for Holli.

Just to show you a good deed can be recognized, the total of the campaign has just passed $32,000!

According to Grady, Holli is working towards her Master’s degree in psychology so she could pursue her dream of becoming a professional guidance counselor. She also has currently has a second job knitting scarves and hats for homeless teens.

While keeping a low profile, Holli did post this message on the GoFundMe page:

I’ll start with this. I am in utter shock. You have all single handedly changed my life. Each of you have shown me that this world is worth living in. I have felt so misguided in a sense of why can’t I get passed where I am. I’ve tried to be kind, I’ve tried to be fair, I’ve tried to share regardless if I was able to. I want others to smile when I smile back at them. Knowing deeply we all have a higher purpose. How can I help!!

For some time now, I’ve felt this overwhelming sense of failure. I want to make a positive change in this world. I know what I’m here for and that’s to help others reach their higher potential. With your support I have been blessed with the opportunity to live and not just survive daily. I can properly provide for my family and meet all our children’s needs. I will now have the ability to get my business up and running in order to provide a better future for us. And I can still give back to my community even more now.

You have personally contributed to SO much more than you could possible know.

I ask that you please forgive me as I’m a little afraid to make a public video. Just know that from my soul to yours. You will be blessed for this act of unconditional kindness. I never thought my ginormous dreams would become a reality so soon and at the hand of others, but with your support I can now take the steps needed to build a better future. Because of you this dark world has a lot more light in it.
Not to preach at you or push spirituality at you. That being said I pray that you gain real fulfillment in your life. I don’t know you but I love you. It’s weird to some people but whatever, I believe we are one people so if I love myself therefore I love you. We’ve been taught that what we do unto others, we receive in return.

A great teacher of mine has said “All forms of pain, suffering, illness or financial chaos are there to promote spiritual growth and character change.” We are the change. You are this change. We stand together side by side in truth and know love trumps hate. Blessings to you may your light continue to break through the darkness.

“Happy Holidays” Or “Merry Christmas”

(image via Facebook)

I’ve never really understood this “war on Christmas” thing.

I mean, why get mad?

You never know if the person who’s saying the greeting is Jewish or Muslim or Christian or Atheist.

So, why not just be nice? A friendly greeting shouldn’t be met with a lecture.

The whole point of the holiday season is the INTENT and the spirit of giving in a “Christ-like” manner; the spirit of acceptance.

Who cares if someone says “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays?” In this day of Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric, I’m just happy people are saying “hi.”

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory Finally Concedes He Lost Reelection Bid

After weeks of stonewalling, North Carolina’s anti-LGBT Gov. Pat McCrory has conceded he lost his race for reelection to Democrat and current Attorney General Roy Cooper.

Reported as the closest governor’s race in North Carolina history, Cooper apparently won by a margin of 10,250 votes.

A divisive figure in North Carolina politics, McCrory’s loss can be credited to his support and passage of the state’s now infamously anti-LGBT legislation known as HB2.

The law stuck down all LGBT protections in the state by stating that, unless a certain class of people was officially recognized by the state, local municipalities could not enact their own protections.

This included barring transgender citizens from using public bathrooms which aligned with their gender identity.

HB2’s impact on North Carolina was vast with many corporations and events cancelled and moved to other states. The cost to the state has been estimated to be in the tens of millions.

Congratulations Governor-elect Roy Cooper!

In a video released by McCrory’s office he says, “I personally believe that the majority of our citizens have spoken. And we now should do everything we can to support the 75th Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper.”

Trump Officially Taps “Pathological” Ben Carson For HUD Secretary

(image via Facebook)

Only months ago, Donald Trump called Dr. Ben Carson “pathological” and wondered over and over what voters saw in Carson.

Fast forward to today as Trump is now nominating Carson for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

This is probably where I should state that Carson has no experience or specific knowledge related to “urban development” other than the fact that he grew up in Detroit.

Just weeks ago, Carson announced that he did not want any Trump administration cabinet position because he felt he didn’t have experience.

Armstrong Williams, a close Carson confidante, told The Hill, “Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do was take a position that could cripple the presidency.”

Now, remember – Carson says he has no government experience so he feels he’s not qualified. And yet, he ran for the office of president of the United States?

Watch Trump from the campaign trail this year discussing “pathological” Ben Carson.
